Air heater controller with EC fan | Sentera Controls | ECH-8-DM
ECH-8-DM – Sentera Controls controller for an air heater with an EC fan: based on a PT500 temperature sensor it switches on a water valve or electric heater (relay output up to 10 A) and changes the EC fan speed with a 0–6 VDC or 0-10 VDC signal. Supplied with 85–305 VAC, has Modbus RTU, IP54.
Key idea:
One device performs the functions of a thermostat and a speed controller: in automatic mode the heater works harder the further the temperature deviates from the setpoint, and in manual mode staff select one of 5 speeds.Power supply
85–305 VAC, 50–60 HzFan
0–6 / 0-10 VDCValve / heater
Relay output, Imax 10 AProtection
IP54, surface-mountedOperating principle
The controller is wall-mounted in a warehouse or hangar. Connect the power supply (L, N, PE), the PT500 temperature sensor (TEMP), the EC fan control input (Ao, Gnd), the water valve or electric heater (L1, N, PE) and, if required, Modbus RTU (A, /B).
In heating mode, when the temperature is below the setpoint (5–35 °C), the valve / heater output is switched on and the EC fan speed increases steplessly as the temperature drops (proportional band 2 °C). In ventilation mode the speed increases as the temperature rises above the setpoint.
The 7-position switch selects: Auto, manual speeds 1–5 or OFF. The analogue output range (0–6 VDC factory default or 0-10 VDC) and mode (heating / ventilation) are selected with jumpers or Modbus registers.
Engineer's note: the PT500 sensor is not included (e.g. FLTSN-P500-010). Install the sensor in a representative location – not in the heater air stream, otherwise the controller will switch off the heating too early.
Benefits ECH-8-DM?
Thermostat, EC fan speed controller and valve relay in one IP54 enclosure – no separate devices or complex wiring needed, and Modbus RTU allows settings to be changed remotely.Technical specifications

Main functions
- Automatic mode – The EC fan speed changes steplessly according to temperature.
- Valve / heater control – relay output up to 10 A.
- 5 manual speeds and OFF – 7-position switch.
- Heating and ventilation modes – also suitable for air coolers with an EC fan and a water valve.
- Modbus RTU – all settings can be changed remotely.
- 0–6 / 0-10 VDC output – adaptable to the EC fan control input.
Where is it used?
- Water air heaters for warehouses and hangars
- Heating and cooling of industrial premises
- Air coolers with an EC fan and a water valve
- Temperature-based ventilation
- Workshops, garages, sales halls
On-demand operation
For the heating / ventilation installer.
One device instead of a thermostat, speed controller and relay.For the facility manager.
Automatic mode maintains the temperature and reduces noise.For the BMS integrator.
Settings and temperature are available via Modbus RTU.Application guide: how it is used in practice
ECH-8-DM can be adapted to different sites – only the connected equipment and mode change:
Site What is connected Result Installer's note Warehouse water air heater PT500 → TEMP; valve → L1; EC fan → Ao The heater runs as much as needed to maintain the temperature Do not install the sensor in the heater air stream Hangar with an electric heater Heater contactor → L1 (Imax 10 A) Heating ON / OFF, fan – according to temperature Connect a higher-power heater via a contactor Air cooler with an EC fan Jumper 3 – ventilation mode; valve → L1 The fan speeds up as the temperature rises Check the valve logic during commissioning Workshops with manual control Switch in position 1–5 Constant speed selected by staff The Auto position restores automatic mode Building with BMS Modbus RTU → A, /B Setting and status are managed centrally Modbus parameters reset – PROG jumper ≥ 5 s How to select the controller current
Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model Temperature-based control of an air heater with an EC fan needed ECH-8-DM (PT500, relay 10 A, Modbus RTU) ← this model Only manual EC speed control with a display needed RDCV9-AD-WH (LED display, Modbus RTU) Only a simple potentiometer with 230 VAC and Modbus needed SPV-8-010-PM (OFF, Modbus RTU) Rule: Choose ECH-8-DM when you need to control both a valve / heater and the EC fan speed according to temperature. Valve or heater current – no more than 10 A; for a higher load use a contactor. Check whether the EC fan is controlled by a 0–6 or 0-10 VDC signal.When to choose another solution: for manual EC fan control with a display – RDCV9-AD; for a knob with Modbus – SPV-8 series; for AC fans – EVS-1 controllers.Pros
- Thermostat and EC speed controller in one
- Relay output for a valve / heater up to 10 A
- Auto, 5 manual speeds and OFF
- Heating and ventilation modes
- Modbus RTU, IP54
Cons / limitations
- PT500 sensor purchased separately
- Relay output ON / OFF only – the valve is not modulated proportionally
- Surface-mounted installation indoors only
- Controls EC fans only (not AC motors directly)
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the supply to all connected devices disconnected.
- Protective earth (PE) must be connected in the supply and output circuits.
- Valve / heater output current – no more than 10 A.
- Use only a PT500 type sensor.
- Install indoors only, -10…+50 °C, 5–90 % rH non-condensing.
Quick selection guide
85–305 VACPT5000–6 / 0-10 VDCrelay 10 AModbus RTUIP54Suitable when you need:- control a water or electric air heater with an EC fan according to temperature;
- control an air cooler with an EC fan and a water valve;
- integrate heater control into the BMS.
Check before use:- the EC fan control input (0–6 or 0-10 VDC);
- the valve or heater current (≤ 10 A);
- whether a PT500 sensor has been ordered.
Important reminder: ECH-8-DM controls an EC fan via a signal and a valve / heater via a relay output – it does not directly control the speed of AC fans.FAQ
Is the sensor included in the set?
No, the PT500 sensor must be ordered separately, e.g. FLTSN-P500-010.What heater can be connected?
A water valve or electric heater up to 10 A; larger ones via a contactor.Is it suitable for cooling?
Yes, in ventilation mode – for air coolers with an EC fan and a water valve.What is the fan signal?
0–6 VDC (factory default) or 0-10 VDC – selected by jumper.How do I reset the Modbus parameters?
Place a jumper on PROG pins 1 and 2 for at least 5 seconds.Air heater controller with EC fan | Sentera Controls | ECH-8-DM
