Galvanised steel rotary deflector D175
A rotary deflector is a wind-turbine-type cap at the top of a ventilation duct. The wind spins the vaned head, creating negative pressure above the duct, so air is extracted from the rooms more effectively than through an open pipe. This model is designed for a D175 duct.
Key point
The head rotates on ball bearings – thanks to low friction it starts turning even in lighter wind, while the bearing wears less and runs more quietly. Galvanised steel is coated with a zinc layer that protects the metal from corrosion in normal outdoor conditions. The duct is protected from rain, snow and birds.
Connection diameterD175 mmMaterialGalvanised steelBearingsballColourSilver⚠ For ventilation only
The deflector is intended for ventilation ducts only – to extract humid and warm air. Do not install it on flues of stoves, fireplaces, sauna heaters or boilers: hot flue gases and acidic condensate will damage it, and there is a risk of fire and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
How it works
- The deflector is fitted onto a D175 duct or pipe and fixed mechanically.
- The wind spins the head; centrifugal force and the pressure difference draw air out of the duct.
- Without wind the duct stays open – warm air rises by natural draught; as the wind picks up, extraction increases.

Wind speed 2 m/s 4 m/s 6 m/s Air extraction, m³/h 75 150 230 Indicative estimate, not manufacturer data: actual flow depends on duct length and resistance, temperature difference and air supply to the room. Without wind, the duct works by natural draught.

✓ Pros
- Ball bearings – smooth rotation even in lighter wind
- Works without electricity, no running costs
- Protects the duct from rain, snow and birds
- Exact D175 size – no need to reduce the duct
- Same-size versions available in other materials
→ Limitations
- Most effective with at least a light wind (~2–3 m/s); without wind it acts as an open duct
- In winter the head may ice up and stop – the duct stays open for draught
- Not suitable for flues
⚠ Installation and maintenance
- The deflector D must match the duct D – do not reduce the duct.
- Install in an open spot, as close to the ridge as possible, not in the wind shadow of higher walls or trees.
- Fix with screws, rivets or a clamp; seal the joint with the roof using a UV-resistant sealant.
- Once a year check that the head rotates freely, without noise or wobble.
- Roof work is work at height: use fall protection equipment.
FAQ
Does the deflector need electricity?
No – it is driven by the wind and the natural draught of warm air.
Will it turn in light wind?
Ball bearings reduce friction, so the head starts turning even in lighter wind; with no wind at all, the duct works as an open one.
Will it freeze in winter?
In cold, damp weather the head may ice up and stop temporarily; the duct stays open, and once it thaws the head turns again. Do not cover the deflector for winter.
Can it be installed on a chimney?
No. This deflector is intended for ventilation ducts only; flues require dedicated chimney cowls.
Do the bearings need lubrication?
Normally not; once a year it is enough to check that the head rotates freely and does not squeak.
What does 300×100 in the name mean?
These are the product dimensions in millimetres according to supplier data; check the drawing and actual dimensions before installation.

Stainless steel - strong, resistant to corrosion, oxidation, and other factors.Galvanized steel and stainless steel are two different types of steel, with the main difference related to their corrosion protection methods and chemical properties. Here are the key differences:
Corrosion Protection:
Galvanized Steel: This is steel coated with a layer of zinc. Zinc acts as protection against rusting, as it oxidizes first and protects the steel. This is particularly useful when steel is used outdoors or in areas exposed to moisture.
Stainless Steel: Stainless steel naturally resists rust and corrosion because it is alloyed with chromium (at least 10.5%) and other metals (such as nickel), which create a protective oxide layer on the steel surface. This layer prevents water and air from directly affecting the steel surface, making it highly resistant to corrosion.
Chemical Properties:Galvanized Steel: The zinc layer protects the steel, but it is not as resistant to rust as stainless steel. If the zinc layer is damaged, the steel may start to rust.
Stainless Steel: Due to its composition (chromium, nickel), stainless steel is much more resistant to corrosion and oxidation. It does not react with acids or alkalis and remains rust-free for a long time, even under harsh environmental conditions.
Cost:Galvanized Steel: Typically less expensive than stainless steel because its manufacturing process is simpler and requires lower costs.
Stainless Steel: Due to its more complex manufacturing process and expensive additives (chromium, nickel), stainless steel is more expensive than galvanized steel.
Appearance:Galvanized Steel: Generally has a silvery-gray color with a visible zinc layer. It provides a protective coating but may be less aesthetically pleasing than stainless steel.
Stainless Steel: Often has a shiny surface and is more aesthetically appealing.
Temperature Resistance:Galvanized Steel: The zinc layer starts to melt at high temperatures (above 419°C), so galvanized steel is not suitable for very high-temperature environments.
Stainless Steel: Stainless steel performs well at high temperatures, making it suitable for use in high-temperature applications.
Summary:Galvanized Steel is cheaper and suitable for areas where high corrosion resistance is not required, and appearance is not a primary concern.
Stainless Steel is more expensive but has significantly better resistance to corrosion and high temperatures, as well as better aesthetic appearance. This product is marked with the CE label, which confirms that it complies with all applicable European Union directives and regulations.
