Composite manhole cover with frame | Ø900mm | C250 | EN124 | with additional access cover | SMC
Composite manhole cover with frame made of SMC composite material and designed for covering underground utility networks, technical manholes and other access openings. The cover has a C250 load class, making the construction suitable for locations exposed to moderate vehicle loads.
This version features a two-part construction: a smaller additional access cover is integrated into the main large cover. This allows access to the inside of the manhole for certain inspection or maintenance tasks without opening the entire main cover.
The construction includes sealing elements, a removable side sealing structure and lockable bolts. The cover is resistant to corrosion, fuels, oils and various chemicals. SMC composite also has electrically insulating properties and helps reduce the accumulation of static electrical charge.
C250 load class according to EN124The cover is classified as C250 according to EN124. Covers of this class are used in kerbside, kerb, drainage, parking and similar areas where vehicle loads may occur but where D400 class is not required.
C250Load classØ900mmOpening diameter974mmCover dimension CSMCComposite materialTwo-part cover construction
The construction includes a main cover for the Ø900mm opening and an additional smaller access cover. The smaller cover is integrated into the main structure and can be removed separately.
Additional access without opening the entire coverThe smaller upper cover can simplify inspection, measurements or other maintenance work when it is not necessary to open the entire main Ø900mm access opening.
Construction components
Construction component Purpose Main SMC composite cover Covers the main manhole opening and carries operating loads. Additional access cover Allows access to part of the manhole interior without opening the entire main cover. Frame Designed to secure the entire structure at the installation location. Sealing elements Help reduce the penetration of water, liquids and odours between structural components. Double removable side sealing structure Provides additional sealing between the cover components and frame. Lockable bolts For securing the cover and protecting against unwanted opening. Removable lifting-handle inserts Designed for opening and maintaining both the main and additional covers. SMC composite material
SMC is a mouldable composite material used in structures requiring high mechanical strength, resistance to environmental influences and relatively low weight.
Electrically insulating composite constructionSMC composite is non-metallic and has electrically insulating properties. The material also helps reduce the accumulation of static electrical charge and the risk of electrostatic discharge.
C250 mechanical strength
C250 class is intended for locations where the cover may be exposed to vehicle loads but where a higher load class intended for main high-traffic carriageways is not required.
C250 – for kerbside, kerb and parking areasThe cover can be used in kerbside areas, kerb and drainage zones, car parks, industrial sites and other locations where loads correspond to the C250 class.
C250 is not D400 classIf the cover is installed on a main high-traffic carriageway or in a location where the project requires D400 or a higher load class, the C250 version is not suitable for that location.
Resistance to corrosion and chemicals
The composite structure does not rust and is resistant to many substances that the cover may encounter in industrial or transport environments.
- Petrol
- Diesel fuel
- Lubricants and oils
- Many chemicals
- Moisture
- Corrosive environments
Sealed construction
Multi-layer sealing systemThe main cover and additional access cover incorporate sealing elements designed to reduce the penetration of water, gases, odours, oil or other liquids into the manhole interior.
Anti-slip surface
Both the main cover and the additional access cover have a raised surface designed to provide better grip. This is important in parking, traffic and pedestrian areas where the surface may become wet or contaminated.
Temperature resistance
The temperature range specified for SMC moulded products is approximately -60°C to +150°C. The material has good resistance to temperature changes.
Temperature range relates to SMC material propertiesThe -60°C...+150°C range describes the temperature resistance of the SMC material used in moulded products. Operating conditions for the complete structure also depend on sealing elements, fixing and the installation location.

- C250 load class suitable for moderate vehicle loads.
- Additional access cover allows some maintenance work to be carried out without opening the entire main cover.
- Ø900mm main opening provides a large access area.
- SMC composite construction is corrosion-resistant and does not rust.
- Resistance to fuels, oils and chemicals makes it suitable for industrial and traffic areas.
- Sealing system helps protect the manhole interior against water and other liquids.
- Lockable bolts help protect against unwanted opening.
- Raised anti-slip surface improves grip.
- Electrically insulating material does not have the electrical conductivity typical of metal structures.
Disadvantages / limitations
- Correctly prepared base required: C250 performance also depends on correct installation of the frame.
- Large construction dimensions: the outer frame dimension is 1020mm.
- The additional cover must be properly closed and secured before being exposed to vehicle loads.
- Not intended for areas where D400 or a higher load class is required.
Suitable for
- Kerbside areas
- Kerb and drainage zones
- Car parks
- Industrial sites with moderate vehicle loads
- Petrol stations where C250 is sufficient for the specific installation location
- Sewer and drainage manholes
- Telecommunications and electrical cable chambers
- Sites where an additional smaller access opening is useful
Not suitable for
- Main high-traffic carriageways where D400 or a higher class is required
- Sites where the project requires a higher load class
- Installation without a properly prepared load-bearing base
Practical application example
A technical manhole is installed in a car park or kerbside area. Routine maintenance requires only limited access to the inside of the manhole, so the smaller upper cover can be removed. When full access is required, the main Ø900mm cover is opened. The C250 class allows the construction to be used in locations exposed to moderate vehicle loads.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is the load class of the cover?C250 according to EN124.
Where is C250 class used?In kerbside, kerb and drainage areas, car parks and other similar locations where loads correspond to the C250 class.
What is the diameter of the main opening? The CO dimension is Ø900mm.
What is the main cover dimension? The C dimension is 974mm.

Important installation noteThe C250 load class is determined not only by the cover itself but also by the correctly installed frame and supporting base. The installation structure must reliably transfer vehicle loads to the surrounding base. Before installation, the CO, C, F and other structural dimensions must be checked, both the main and additional covers must be properly secured, and it must be confirmed that the C250 load class meets the requirements of the specific installation location.
