  • Compression joint sleeve (ferrule) | 35(50) mm² | aluminium | Al 99.5 | 1 kV (with special sleeves – up to 10 kV) | GPH14

    Code: GPH14

    GPH14 is a compression tube-type joint sleeve (ferrule), designed for joining the ends of aluminium (Al) cable or wire cores to each other. The sleeve is made of Al 99.5 material, making it electrochemically compatible with an aluminium conductor and used instead of soldering or bolted terminals wherever a permanent, mechanically robust joint is required. It belongs to the joint sleeve category for cables and wires, used in electrical distribution and installation work.

    Main point:
    Aluminium-cored cables need a different sleeve than copper ones – a dissimilar-metal part in contact with an Al core oxidises over time and the joint weakens. GPH14 is made only from Al 99.5, so the whole joint remains a single metal and there is no galvanic couple between the sleeve and the core. The 1 kV rated insulation class covers standard low-voltage distribution cases, and when needed, with special sleeves the same construction logic is applied up to 10 kV lines.
    Compatibility
    aluminium (Al) cored wires/cables only
    Material
    Al 99.5
    Cross-section
    35(50) mm²
    Rated voltage
    1 kV (with special sleeves – up to 10 kV)

    Operating principle

    The aluminium core at each end of the cable or wire being joined is stripped to the required length and inserted into the GPH14 sleeve tube from opposite sides, until the cores meet in the middle or reach the manufacturer's specified insertion depth. The sleeve is then compressed with a special crimping tool with a hexagonal (hex) crimping profile – the jaws compress the tube body and the core into a solid, sealed metal block with no gaps where moisture or air could collect.

    Because aluminium quickly forms a thin oxide layer on its surface, which increases contact resistance, before crimping the core and the inside of the sleeve are usually coated with contact paste – it mechanically breaks the oxide film during crimping and protects the joint from further oxidation and moisture. After crimping, the sleeve itself has no insulation of its own, so the joint is additionally insulated with heat-shrink tubing, which restores the required insulation level and protects the crimped joint from mechanical impact.

    What makes GPH14 useful?
    It is a compact and mechanically reliable way to join Al cores without soldering and without bolted terminals, which can loosen on an aluminium core over time due to cold flow. A crimped joint with contact paste and heat-shrink insulation forms a permanent, low-contact-resistance connection, suitable for both cable repair and new line installation.

    Key features

    • Construction designed only for Al cores – the whole joint is made of the same metal, so there is no galvanic couple with the core.
    • Al 99.5 material – high-purity aluminium, compatible with the electrochemical potential of the aluminium conductor.
    • 35(50) mm² cross-section range – designed for joining a core of the stated rating.
    • 1 kV rated insulation class – suits standard low-voltage distribution lines.
    • Crimped, not soldered, joint – a mechanically stable, long-lasting joint made without an open flame at the work site.
    • Compact tube body – fits in cable wells, distribution boxes and cable routes.

    Where is it used?

    • Electrical distribution cable lines with aluminium cores.
    • Extending a damaged or too-short cable section.
    • Cable repair work instead of replacing an entire section.
    • Distribution cabinets and cable wells.
    • Building electrical incomers using Al cored cables.
    • Temporary or industrial electrical installations with aluminium wires.
    • Low-voltage (up to 1 kV) electrical distribution networks.

    Use by need

    For home users.
    Rarely worked with directly – it is an installation component rather than an end product, but this is exactly the sleeve used when repairing or extending an older building's aluminium incoming wire.
    For businesses and industry.
    At sites operating Al cored cables, GPH14 allows local cable repair or extension without replacing the whole line, reducing downtime and material use.
    For electricians / engineers.
    When choosing a sleeve, check three things: the core material (Al only, not Cu), the exact cross-section against the sleeve's 35(50) mm² range, and the required insulation class – GPH14 suits standard lines up to 1 kV, while higher voltage requires a special sleeve.

    Practical application

    When a damaged 35 mm² aluminium-core cable in a 1 kV distribution line needs to be joined or extended, the insulation is stripped from both cable ends, the core is cleaned to a metallic shine and coated with contact paste; both ends are inserted into the GPH14 sleeve tube from opposite sides and crimped with a hexagonal crimping tool at several points along the sleeve. The joint is additionally insulated with heat-shrink tubing, restoring the insulation level to 1 kV and protecting the joint from moisture and mechanical impact.

    Pros

    • One metal throughout the joint – no Al/Cu galvanic couple that would degrade contact over time.
    • High-purity Al 99.5 – stable electrical contact with the aluminium core.
    • Crimped, long-lasting joint – no soldering, no open flame at the work site.
    • Compact size – convenient for distribution boxes and cable wells.
    • Clearly defined cross-section range – 35(50) mm², easy to select the correct sleeve.
    • Universal 1 kV class – suits most low-voltage distribution cases, and special sleeve versions allow working up to 10 kV.

    Cons / limitations

    • Designed only for aluminium cores – a copper core or an Al/Cu joint requires a different, bimetallic solution.
    • Requires a suitable crimping tool with a hexagonal profile – without it a quality joint cannot be achieved.
    • The standard sleeve is rated up to 1 kV – higher voltage (up to 10 kV) needs a special sleeve version, not this base model.
    • A crimped joint cannot be disassembled – if installed incorrectly, the sleeve must be cut off and a new one used.
    • Suitable only for the stated 35(50) mm² cross-section range – a different cross-section requires a different sleeve size.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Use only with aluminium (Al) cored wires/cables – never join a copper core directly with this sleeve.
    • Before installation, make sure the cable is disconnected from the voltage source.
    • Clean the core end to a metallic shine and coat it with contact paste to remove the oxide layer.
    • Crimp only with the correct-size hexagonal profile, matching the sleeve and core cross-section.
    • After crimping, be sure to insulate the joint with heat-shrink tubing, restoring the required insulation level.
    • Before use on a line above 1 kV, check whether the special sleeve version for that voltage applies.

    Quick selection guide

    Compatibility
    aluminium (Al) cored wires/cables only
    Material
    Al 99.5
    Cross-section
    35(50) mm²
    Rated voltage
    1 kV (with special sleeves – up to 10 kV)
    Suitable when you need to:
    • join or extend a damaged aluminium-core cable/wire;
    • a crimped, long-lasting joint without soldering;
    • join a 35(50) mm² Al core in a line up to 1 kV.
    Check before use:
    • whether both cores being joined are aluminium (Al), not copper;
    • whether the core cross-section matches the sleeve's 35(50) mm² range;
    • whether you have a suitable hexagonal-profile crimping tool;
    • whether the line's rated voltage does not exceed 1 kV (or a special sleeve is used for it).
    Important reminder:
    The sleeve joins only aluminium cores, and without a proper crimping tool and contact paste a quality joint cannot be achieved – it does not replace proper insulation with heat-shrink tubing after crimping.

    FAQ

    Can the sleeve be used for a copper core?
    No, GPH14 is designed only for aluminium (Al) cored wires/cables.
    What crimping tool should be used?
