  • Digital EC fan speed controller | Sentera Controls | RDCV9-AD-BK

    RDCV9-AD-BK – Sentera Controls digital EC fan speed controller (anthracite enclosure) with a 3-digit LED display, 3-button keypad and Modbus RTU. Supplied with 110–230 VAC, output – 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or PWM, stepless or 2–10 steps.

    Key idea:
    Buttons and a display instead of a knob: the user sees the exact set value or step, and the installer sets the signal type, limits, number of steps and start value in the menu without any trimmers.
    Power supply
    110–230 VAC ±10 %
    Output
    0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA / PWM
    Control
    LED display, 3 buttons, Modbus RTU
    Mode
    Stepless or 2–10 steps

    Operating principle

    The controller is connected to 110–230 VAC (L, N), the input of the controlled device (Ao, GND) and, if needed, the Modbus RTU line (A, /B). Flush-mounted or surface-mounted installation.

    This is not a power controller: it generates a control signal for an EC fan, actuator, lighting or another system, and no motor current flows through it.

    Output: 0-10 VDC (min. 0–8 VDC, max. 4–10 VDC, RL ≥ 10 kΩ), 0-20 mA (min. 0–16 mA, max. 8–20 mA, RL ≤ 500 Ω) or 0–100 % PWM (min. 0–80 %, max. 20–100 %, RL ≥ 10 kΩ; open collector, internal 12 VDC). A stepless or 2–10-step control curve is available, and a start-up value or step can be set.

    Engineer's note: step mode is convenient for the user (e.g. 3 clear ventilation steps), and the start-up value ensures that the EC fan reliably starts turning.

    Benefits RDCV9-AD-BK?
    Display, step mode and Modbus RTU in one residential-design enclosure – suitable where the user wants to see the exact value and the integrator needs a BMS connection.

    Application guide: how it is used in practice

    RDCV9-AD-BK can be adapted to different sites – only what is connected and which mode is selected change:

    Site What is connected Result Installer's note
    Apartment with a heat recovery unit Ao (0-10 VDC) → heat recovery unit EC fans 3 clear ventilation steps on the display Set the number of steps in the menu
    Office with BMS A, /B → Modbus RTU; Ao → EC fan Local control and centralised monitoring When connecting to a Modbus network with AC supply, do not connect GND
    EC fan with a PWM input Ao (PWM, open collector) → PWM input Smooth speed control Load ≥ 10 kΩ
    Damper actuator Ao (0-20 mA or 0-10 VDC) → actuator Precise position shown on the display In current mode, load ≤ 500 Ω
    Lighting with 0-10 V control Ao (0-10 VDC) → power supply dimmer input Light level control Sentera also lists lighting as an application

    How to select the controller current

    Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    White enclosure needed RDCV9-AD-WH (white)
    Anthracite enclosure needed RDCV9-AD-BK (anthracite) ← this model
    A simple potentiometer with Modbus, without a display, is sufficient SPV-8-010-PM (OFF, Modbus RTU)
    Rule: RDCV9-AD-WH and RDCV9-AD-BK are technically identical – only the enclosure colour differs. Choose according to the interior. Motor power has no influence on the selection – the control input load is what is checked.
    When to choose another solution: for simpler knob control with Modbus – SPV-8 series; without Modbus with 230 VAC – MTVN1 series; for temperature-based control of an air heater with an EC fan – ECH-8-DM; for AC fans – EVS-1 controllers.

    Pros

    • LED display and 3 buttons
    • Stepless or 2–10 step mode
    • Three output types
    • Modbus RTU
    • Power supply 110–230 VAC

    Cons / limitations

    • Indoor use only, -10…+40 °C
    • No dry contact or relay output
    • Settings via the menu – instructions are needed

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the supply to all connected devices disconnected.
    • The terminals carry mains voltage – connect only with the supply disconnected.
    • If the AC supply is shared with other Modbus devices, do not connect the GND terminal to other network devices or to the CNVT-USB-RS485 converter – this may damage the communication electronics or the computer.
    • Cables – up to 2.5 mm².
    • For indoor use only.

    Quick selection guide

    110–230 VAC
    0-10 V / 0-20 mA / PWM
    LED display
    Modbus RTU
    IP44 / IP54
    Suitable when you need:
    • control an EC fan with a display and steps;
    • integrate control into the BMS via Modbus RTU;
    • control actuators or lighting with a 0-10 V / PWM signal.
    Check before use:
    • the type and resistance of the controlled input;
    • whether stepped or stepless mode is needed;
    • the enclosure colour (WH / BK).
    Important reminder: RDCV9-AD-BK is a control signal source, not a power controller – the motor current does not flow through it.
