The Modicon TM3 system allows the number of inputs and outputs of Modicon M221, M241, M251 and M262 controllers to be expanded using a modular approach. This module provides 32 digital 24V DC inputs, supports both sink and source input logic, and is intended for connecting sensors, switches, limit switches and other discrete signals to the PLC.

The module is designed for Modicon M2xx series PLC systems and is used as an additional discrete input block. TM3 modules are interconnected using an integrated locking mechanism, while data and internal power are transmitted through the bus expansion connector.

The module provides 500V AC isolation between the input group and the internal logic / bus. There is no galvanic isolation between individual input channels, therefore all inputs must be designed according to the common electrical architecture of the module.

• Digital inputs only: the module has no analog inputs or outputs and is not designed for analog 0-10V, 4-20mA or similar signals.
• No outputs: this is an input expansion module only, therefore a separate output module or PLC outputs are required for load control.
• HE-10 connection: a suitable HE-10 cable and connector system is required for connection.
• IP20: the module is intended for installation inside an enclosed control panel and is not protected against direct exposure to water or dust.
• Specific PLC ecosystem: the module is designed for the Modicon TM3 system and is not a universal standalone I/O module for PLC systems from all manufacturers.

A Modicon M241 PLC is used in an automated production line, but the controller's built-in inputs are insufficient for connecting all sensors. The system includes multiple inductive sensors, limit switches, emergency status contacts and other 24V DC signals. A 32-input module is connected to the PLC through the TM3 bus. All signals are connected through the HE-10 connector, while the state of each input can be checked using the corresponding green LED indicator. In this way, the PLC system is expanded with 32 additional digital inputs without replacing the main controller.
