  • Electronic fan speed controller from max. to min. | 2.5A | 230VAC | surface-mounted/flush-mounted | IP54/IP44 | Sentera Controls | MTXN0-25-AT

MTXN0-25-AT – Sentera Controls compact wall-mounted fan speed controller with a knob for single-phase 230 VAC fans (0.2–2.5 A). Turning the knob decreases the speed from maximum to minimum (max.→min.).

    Key idea:
The simplest and most affordable way to control the speed of a small AC fan: a single knob with an OFF position, installed like a standard wall switch.
    What it is for MTXN0-25-AT:
This model is designed for medium-power fans (up to 2.5 A) – duct fans in offices, classrooms, retail premises or 2–3 smaller fans together.
    Motor current
    0.2–2.5 A
    Control
    Knob, max.→min.
    Power supply
    230 VAC ±10 %, 50 Hz
    Installation
    Surface-mounted IP54 / flush-mounted IP44

    Operating principle

The controller is surface-mounted or installed in a flush-mounted box. Connect the power supply and the motor; the unregulated 230 V output (up to 2 A) is used for the OFF position connection.

Phase-angle control: the effective value of the motor supply voltage is varied; the output voltage is not purely sinusoidal. Regulated output – 80–230 VAC.

The minimum speed (80–180 VAC, factory setting 100 VAC) is set with an internal trimmer. The OFF position can be retained or disabled via the wiring diagram – the fan then runs continuously and only the speed is changed.

Engineer's note: with an AC induction motor, reducing the voltage increases rotor losses, so the savings are lower than with an EC fan or a frequency inverter; when completely silent operation at low speed is essential, choose a transformer controller with a sinusoidal output voltage.

    Benefits MTXN0-25-AT?
Compact, inexpensive and simple: no programming required, and a spare fuse is already included.

Original manufacturer documentation – technical data, wiring diagrams and installation instructions.

    Main functions

    • Knob with OFF – switching on, speed and switching off – with one controller.
    • Direction max.→min. – when the knob is turned, the fan starts from full speed.
    • Adjustable min. speed – set with a trimmer so that the motor always rotates reliably.
    • Continuous operation mode – The OFF position can be disabled – the fan then runs continuously.
    • Several fans – several can be connected to one controller without exceeding the max. current.

    Where is it used?

    • Bathrooms, toilets, kitchens
    • Offices and small rooms
    • Storerooms, garages
    • Duct and axial fans with AC motors
    • Replacement of old manual controllers

    On-demand operation

    For the electrician.
Installed like a wall switch, no programming.
    For the ventilation installer.
Min. speed is set on site with a screwdriver.
    For the user.
One knob – switch on, adjust, switch off.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

    Typical MTXN0-25-AT applications:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Bathroom, toilet Extract fan → regulated output The fan is switched on and adjusted with a single knob Set the min. speed with the trimmer
Continuously running ventilation Connection without OFF position The fan always runs; only the speed is changed See the manufacturer's wiring diagram
Several fans in one room Several fans of the same type in parallel All controlled with a single knob Total current – no more than 2.5 A

How to select the controller current

Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    up to 0.5 A MTXN0-05-AT (0.5 A)
    0.5–1.5 A MTXN0-15-AT (1.5 A)
    1.5–2.5 A MTXN0-25-AT (2.5 A) ← this model
    2.5–4 A MTXN0-40-AT (4 A)
Rule: controller max. current ≥ motor rated current (see the motor nameplate). The starting current is already accounted for by the manufacturer; no additional margin is needed. When connecting several fans – motors of the same type – add up their rated currents. Do not choose an oversized model for a small fan – each model also has a minimum current.
When to choose another solution: opposite knob direction needed – MTYN0 series; LED indication needed – LTX / LTY series; sensor or Modbus control needed – EVS-1 series; higher current – ITR-9 series; for an EC fan – an EC potentiometer.

    Pros

    • Compact and inexpensive
    • Knob with OFF position
    • Adjustable min. speed
    • Spare fuse included
    • Surface or flush mounting

    Cons / limitations

    • Motor current – 0.2–2.5 A
    • No 0-10 VDC input and no Modbus
    • Operating temperature 0…+35 °C
    • Only for single-phase voltage-controllable motors; not suitable for EC fans
    • The output voltage is non-sinusoidal – some motors may hum audibly at low speed

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • Check that the motor current is within 0.2–2.5 A and that the motor is suitable for voltage control.
    • Adjust the min. speed with an insulated screwdriver.
    • Intended for indoor use only.

    Quick selection guide

    2.5 A
    230 VAC

    Suitable when you need:
    • simple manual control without automation;
    • fan current 0.2–2.5 A;
    • installation like a wall switch.
    Check before use:
    • the motor current and whether it is voltage-controllable;
    • the required knob direction (MTXN0 – max.→min.);
    • whether an OFF position is required.
Important reminder: MTXN0-25-AT does not control EC fans or three-phase motors.

    FAQ

What is the difference between MTXN0 and MTYN0?
Only in the knob direction: MTXN0 – max.→min., MTYN0 – min.→max. The electrical parameters are the same.
Can a minimum speed be set?
