Electronic fan speed controller from max. to min. | 3A | 230VAC | surface-mounted/flush-mounted | IP54/IP44 | Sentera Controls | SDX-1-30-DT
SDX-1-30-DT – Sentera Controls wall-mounted electronic speed controller with a knob and an integrated switch for single-phase voltage-controllable AC fans up to 3 A. Turning the knob decreases the speed from maximum to minimum (SDX – max.→min.).
Key idea:
The simplest manual solution: switching on, speed and switching off – with a single knob. No programming and no additional modules.What it is for SDX-1-30-DT:
This model is designed for medium-power fans (up to 3 A) – duct fans in offices, classrooms, retail premises or 2–3 smaller fans together.Motor current
0.2–3 AControl
Knob with switchPower supply
230 VAC ±10 %, 50–60 HzInstallation
Surface-mounted IP54 / flush-mountedOperating principle
The controller is mounted on a wall or in a flush-mounted box. Connect the power supply (L, N) and the motor (U1, U2); the unregulated output L1 can power an indicator lamp.
Phase-angle control: the effective value of the motor supply voltage is varied, so the output voltage is not purely sinusoidal. Us – supply voltage (230 VAC).
The knob changes the speed from Us down to the set minimum limit. The minimum limit (20–70 % Us, factory setting – 100 VAC) is adjusted with an internal trimmer using a screwdriver. The OFF position can be retained or disabled – this is determined by the wiring diagram.
Result – the fan runs at exactly the speed required and consumes less electricity than when running continuously at full speed. Engineer's note: with an AC induction motor, reducing the voltage increases slip and rotor losses, so the savings are lower than with an EC fan or a frequency inverter. When energy efficiency is the top priority, choose an EC fan; when completely silent operation at low speed is essential, choose a transformer controller with a sinusoidal output voltage.
Benefits SDX-1-30-DT?
One compact device replaces both a switch and a speed controller – quick installation and intuitive control without any software settings.Technical specifications

Main functions
- Knob with switch – switching on, speed and switching off – with one controller.
- Direction max.→min. – when the knob is turned, the fan starts from full speed and slows down.
- Adjustable min. limit – set with an internal trimmer so that the motor always rotates reliably.
- Unregulated output L1 – for an indicator lamp or another 230 V device up to 2 A.
- Selectable OFF position – if the fan must run continuously, OFF can be disabled via the wiring diagram.
Where is it used?
- Bathrooms, toilets, kitchens
- Small offices, shops
- Workshops, garages, storerooms
- Duct and axial fans with AC motors
- Replacement of old manual controllers
On-demand operation
For the electrician.
Installed like a wall switch, no programming required.For the ventilation installer.
The min. limit is set on site with a screwdriver to suit the specific fan.For the user.
One knob – switch on, adjust, switch off.Application guide: how it is used in practice
Typical SDX-1-30-DT applications:
Site What is connected Result Installer's note Bathroom, toilet Extract fan → U1, U2 The fan is switched on and adjusted with a single knob Set the min. limit with the trimmer Kitchen, workshop Duct fan → U1, U2; lamp → L1 The lamp indicates that the fan is on L1 load – up to 2 A Continuously running ventilation Connection without OFF position (L1, N) The fan cannot be switched off with the knob – only the speed can be changed See the manufacturer's wiring diagram Capacitor motor According to the manufacturer's diagram with auxiliary winding Suitable speed control Check that the motor is suitable for voltage control How to select the controller current
Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model up to 1.5 A SDX-1-15-DT (1.5 A) 1.5–3 A SDX-1-30-DT (3 A) ← this model Rule: controller max. current ≥ motor rated current (see the motor nameplate). The starting current is already accounted for by the manufacturer; no additional margin is needed. When connecting several fans – motors of the same type – add up their rated currents.When to choose another solution: speed should increase as the knob is turned – SDY-1 series (min.→max.); Modbus needed – SDX-1-DM; automation with a sensor – EVS-1 series; for an EC fan – an EC potentiometer.Pros
- Knob with switch
- Simple installation, no programming
- Adjustable min. limit
- Unregulated output for a lamp
- Surface-mounted or flush-mounted
- Compact
Cons / limitations
- Motor current – up to 3 A
- No Modbus and no analogue input
- Direction max.→min. only (opposite – SDY-1)
- Only for single-phase voltage-controllable motors; not suitable for EC fans
- The output voltage is non-sinusoidal – some motors may hum audibly at low speed
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
- Check that the motor current is within 0.2–3 A and that the motor is suitable for voltage control.
- Adjust the min. limit only with the power disconnected or with an insulated screwdriver.
- Intended for indoor use only (0…+40 °C).
Quick selection guide
3 A230 VACKnob + switchMax.→min.IP54Suitable when you need:- simple manual control without automation;
- fan current up to 3 A;
- a lamp indicating operation is required.
Check before use:- the motor current and whether it is voltage-controllable;
- the required knob direction (SDX or SDY);
- whether an OFF position is required.
Important reminder: SDX-1-30-DT does not control EC fans or three-phase motors.FAQ
What is the difference between SDX and SDY?
SDX reduces the speed as the knob is turned (max.→min.), SDY increases it (min.→max.).Can a minimum speed be set?
Yes, with an internal trimmer within 20–70 % Us (factory setting 100 VAC).Can the fan be switched off with the knob?
Yes, if connected with the OFF position; OFF can be disabled via the wiring diagram.Is it suitable for EC fans?
No, only for single-phase voltage-controllable AC motors.Electronic fan speed controller from max. to min. | 3A | 230VAC | surface-mounted/flush-mounted | IP54/IP44 | Sentera Controls | SDX-1-30-DT
