  • Electronic temperature-controlled fan speed controller | Modbus RTU | 15-35°C | 6A | 230VAC | IP54 | Sentera Controls | GTE-1-60-DM

GTE-1-60-DM – a Sentera Controls electronic temperature-controlled fan speed controller for AC motors fed with single-phase 230 VAC up to 6 A, with a Modbus RTU (RS485) interface. Temperature setting 15–35 °C, measured with an external PT500 sensor (not included in the kit), connection – via terminals.

    Key idea:
A stand-alone temperature controller that can be connected to a BMS or the SenteraWeb cloud: the fan speeds up as the temperature rises, and the status and parameters can be monitored and changed remotely via Modbus RTU. The setting range of 15–35 °C suits the typical temperatures of greenhouses, livestock buildings and workshops.
    Max. motor current
    6 A
    Temperature setpoint
    15–35 °C, PT500 sensor
    Communication
    Modbus RTU (RS485)
    Protection
    IP54, supply 230 VAC

    Operating principle

Connect the 230 VAC power supply (L, N), the motor to connector P5, the external PT500 sensor (not included) to GND and T (TEMP.), and the Modbus RTU line to A and /B (the NBT line termination resistor is disconnected at the factory). The unregulated 230 VAC output L1 (up to 2 A) can power a damper actuator or another 230 V device.

The controller electronically varies the motor voltage between Vmin (80–160 VAC, external potentiometer) and Vmax (170–230 VAC, internal trimmer). While the temperature is below the setpoint (15–35 °C by potentiometer), the fan runs at minimum speed or, with the OFF level enabled by jumper JP5, switches off; above the setpoint, the speed increases within a proportional band of 2, 4 (factory), 6 or 8 °C (JP1/JP2), with a hysteresis of 0.5, 1, 2 (factory) or 3 °C (JP3/JP4).

Result – the fan runs according to temperature, and via Modbus RTU the parameters and status are accessible from a BMS or SCADA (register table – in a separate Sentera document), while through the Sentera internet gateway – SenteraWeb: remote settings changes, data logging, alerts, day / night modes. Engineer's note: when voltage is reduced on an AC induction motor, rotor losses increase, so the savings are smaller than with an EC fan or a frequency converter; if the motor hums at low speed, choose a GTH series transformer speed controller with sinusoidal voltage.

    Benefits GTE-1-60-DM?
Temperature-based speed control and Modbus RTU in a single IP54 housing – ventilation can be integrated into a BMS or SenteraWeb without additional controllers.

Original manufacturer documentation – technical data, wiring diagrams and installation instructions.

    Main functions

    • Modbus RTU – status and settings are accessible from the BMS / SCADA.
    • Speed according to temperature – as the temperature rises above the setpoint, the fan speeds up smoothly.
    • Adjustable proportional band and hysteresis – jumpers adjust how quickly the fan responds to temperature.
    • Min. and max. speed – Vmin 80–160 VAC with a potentiometer, Vmax 170–230 VAC with a trimmer – speed and noise are limited to suit the site.
    • OFF level – optionally, the fan switches off when the temperature is below the setpoint.
    • Unregulated 230 V output (up to 2 A) – for a damper actuator or another 230 V device.
    • SenteraWeb – via a Sentera internet gateway – remote control, data logging, notifications and day / night modes.

    Where is it used?

    • Greenhouses
    • Ventilation systems with temperature control
    • Livestock and poultry housing
    • Workshops, warehouses, technical rooms
    • Sites with BMS / SCADA or SenteraWeb monitoring
    • Boiler rooms and server rooms with BMS monitoring (setting 15–35 °C)

    On-demand operation

For building BMS / SCADA integrators.
Modbus RTU allows parameters to be monitored and changed centrally.
    For HVAC commissioning engineers.
Vmin, Vmax, proportional band and hysteresis are set on site for the specific fan.
For server and technical room administrators.
It receives alerts and shows data history via SenteraWeb.

    Practical application

If the extract fan of a server room (up to 6 A) has to be sped up when the temperature exceeds 22 °C and its status has to be visible in the BMS, then the GTE-1-60-DM with an external PT500 sensor is set to 22 °C, and Modbus RTU passes the parameters to the BMS via terminals A and /B.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

    Typical GTE-1-60-DM applications:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Greenhouse Fan → P5; PT500 → in the plant zone As the temperature rises, the fan speeds up; when it is cooler, it runs at minimum speed or switches off Install the sensor in shade, not in direct sunlight
Poultry house / livestock room Extract fan up to 6 A Temperature-based ventilation is maintained, with the minimum air exchange level held at Vmin Leave the OFF level (JP5) disabled if continuous minimum ventilation is required
Fan with air damper Damper actuator 230 VAC → L1 The damper is powered together with the controller L1 load – up to 2 A
Workshops, warehouse Extract fan On a hot day extraction increases Increase the proportional band (6–8 °C) if the speed changes too abruptly
Site with BMS / SenteraWeb Modbus RTU → A, /B Status and settings remotely Connect the NBT resistor on the last device in the line

How to select the controller current

Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    up to 6 A · setpoint 15–35 °C · plug-in, with PT500 GTE-1-60-DT (6 A)
    up to 6 A · setpoint 15–35 °C · Modbus RTU GTE-1-60-DM (6 A) ← this model
    up to 6 A · setpoint 5–35 °C · plug-in, with PT500 GTE21-60-DT (6 A)
    up to 6 A · setpoint 5–35 °C · Modbus RTU GTE21-60-DM (6 A)
Rule: the controller's max. current ≥ the rated current of the motor (or the sum of several motors) from the motor nameplate. The starting current has already been taken into account by the manufacturer, no extra margin is needed. When connecting several fans – of the same type, AC motors with voltage control – add up their rated currents. All GTE models are 6 A; choose by temperature range and version (DT / DM).
When to choose another solution: for a different temperature setting range (5–35 °C) – GTE21-60-DM; plug-in version with a PT500 sensor – GTE-1-60-DT; sinusoidal voltage and a water heater valve – transformer GTH-1 / GTH21 series; electric heater – GTTE1 series; control by a 0-10 VDC signal – EVS-1 series; for EC fans – EC controllers with a 0-10 VDC output.

    Pros

    • Modbus RTU and SenteraWeb
    • Automatic speed control according to temperature
    • Adjustable proportional band and hysteresis
    • Min. and max. speed are set
    • Unregulated 230 V output (2 A)
    • IP54 enclosure

    Cons / limitations

    • PT500 sensor not included
    • Single-phase voltage-controllable AC motors only; not suitable for EC fans
    • Controlled only by ventilation logic – speed increases as temperature rises
    • Indoor use only, operating environment 0…+40 °C; no TK terminals or alarm output
    • Setpoint only from 15 °C – for cooler rooms choose GTE21-60-DM (5–35 °C)

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • At the end of the Modbus line, enable the NBT resistor only on the last device.
    • Check that the motor is suitable for voltage control and that its (or several motors') rated current does not exceed 6 A.
    • The unregulated L1 output load – no more than 2 A.
    • Intended for indoor use only: 0…+40 °C, < 95 % rH non-condensing.
