The Endress+Hauser Liquisys CLM221-CD010 is a panel-mount conductivity transmitter in a 96×96 mm housing for two-electrode conductivity cells with a Pt100 temperature sensor. It displays conductivity and temperature, provides a galvanically isolated 0/4–20 mA signal and controls two limit relays and one alarm relay. This unit is used and is sold in the “Quality used products” category.
Key point:
The CLM221 is no longer manufactured, so for a running system built around this model the same order code is the fastest and cheapest fix: the same 92×92 mm cut-out, the same terminals and the same control logic. No need to rework the panel door, change drawings or reprogram the PLC for a new device.Measuring range

Panel, cut-out 92×92 mm (DIN 43700)Operating principle
The transmitter is inserted into the panel door through a 92×92 mm cut-out and clamped with fixing brackets; installation depth is approx. 175 mm. At the rear there are plug-in terminal blocks with 3, 9 and 14 pins (up to 2.5 mm²) for the conductivity cell via measuring cable (e.g. CYK 71), the Pt100 sensor, power supply, mA output and relays.
The device measures the conductivity of a two-electrode cell. Depending on the cell constant (0.01, 0.1, 1 or 10 cm⁻¹), one of 10 ranges is selected – from 0–2 µS/cm for ultrapure water up to 0–200 mS/cm for concentrated solutions. The Pt100 measures temperature in the range −9.9…+125 °C and automatically compensates conductivity to the 25 °C reference temperature; in addition to linear compensation, a dedicated ultrapure water compensation is available.
The two-line LCD shows conductivity and temperature at the same time. The 0/4–20 mA signal goes to a PLC, SCADA or recorder, the two limit relays (hysteresis 0–10 %, delay 0–2000 s) control e.g. blowdown or dosing, and the alarm relay reports a prolonged limit violation or a Pt100 fault. The HOLD input (10–50 V) freezes the outputs while the cell is being cleaned or calibrated.
Why choose the CLM221-CD010?
One 96×96 mm device replaces a meter, a signal converter and two limit relays, so a conductivity control point needs no separate relay logic or extra modules.Technical specifications

- Conductivity and temperature on one display – the operator sees the process state without an extra indicator.
- Automatic temperature compensation with Pt100 – readings stay comparable all year round, regardless of water temperature.
- Two limit relays with delay up to 2000 s – stable blowdown or dosing control without relay chatter.
- Alarm relay – reports a prolonged limit violation and a Pt100 sensor fault.
- HOLD input – cleaning or calibrating the cell does not trigger false alarms.
- Galvanically isolated 0/4–20 mA output – less interference and fewer ground loops at PLC inputs.
- Calibration via CAL key – quick on-site adjustment with a reference solution.
Where is it used?
- Ultrapure water monitoring
- Water treatment plants
- Ion exchangers and regeneration control
- Reverse osmosis systems
- Cooling water salinity control and blowdown
- Boiler water and condensate monitoring
- Wastewater and concentrated solution monitoring
Use by need
Plant energy engineer.
Replaces a failed CLM221 with the same code – no panel rework, drawing changes or new documentation.Water treatment service company.
A spare unit in stock cuts the customer’s downtime to a single shift.Automation / SCADA integrator.
The 0/4–20 mA output and relay contacts connect to existing logic without new protocols or drivers.Practical application
If the CLM221 monitoring cooling water in a boiler house stops working and a new-generation transmitter would need a different cut-out and rewiring, the CLM221-CD010 goes into the same opening, the plug-in terminal blocks are moved over, the cell constant, temperature coefficient and limits are entered – and blowdown is controlled automatically again the same day.Pros
- Direct replacement with the same code – same cut-out and terminals
- mA output and 3 relays in one 96×96 mm device
- Galvanically isolated 0/4–20 mA output
- Pt100 fault monitoring via the alarm relay
- Dedicated ultrapure water temperature compensation
- Wide cell constant range 0.01–10 cm⁻¹
- Much lower price than a new-generation measuring system
Cons / limitations
- Used device, model discontinued – manufacturer warranty does not apply
- 230 V AC supply only – a 24 V DC system needs a different version
- No digital interface (HART, PROFIBUS, Modbus) – for a new project choose Liquisys M CLM223 or a newer transmitter
- Two-electrode (conductive) cells only, inductive cells cannot be connected
- Housing IP30 – outdoors or in damp rooms only inside an IP65 protective enclosure
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and wiring by a qualified electrician only, with the supply and relay circuits disconnected – relay contacts may carry external voltage.
- Check the voltage on the nameplate before connecting: this version is for 230 V AC, do not connect it to a 24 V or 115 V supply.
- Route the cell cable separately from power cables and use a shielded conductivity measuring cable (e.g. CYK 71) no longer than 100 m.
- Do not load relay contacts above 5 A resistive or 3 A inductive; switch larger loads via an interposing relay or contactor.
- Do not install outdoors or in damp rooms without an IP65 protective enclosure – the rear is IP30.
- After installation enter the cell constant, temperature coefficient and limits and calibrate with a reference solution – settings of the old device are not transferred.

Is this a temperature sensor?
No – it is a conductivity transmitter; it measures temperature via a connected Pt100 sensor, usually built into the conductivity cell. Will it replace my failed CLM221?
Yes, if the old unit is the CLM221 conductivity version (CD) with 230 V AC supply – the cut-out and terminals match.Which cells can be connected?
Two-electrode conductivity cells with a constant of 0.01–10 cm⁻¹, for example E+H CLS15, CLS19, CLS21 or CLS30.Can it be connected to a PLC?
Yes – via the galvanically isolated 0/4–20 mA output (load up to 500 Ω) and potential-free relay contacts. Can it be installed outdoors?
Only in an IP65 protective enclosure (E+H 50054413), as the panel version is IP54 at the front and IP30 at the housing. Is the device new?
