  • Forged thimble eye nut | Q235 | hot-dip galvanized | 86µm | 1.021"-8 UNS-2B

Forged thimble eye nut designed for mechanical fastening and connection in overhead power lines, electrical networks, utility infrastructure and pole-support structures. The specially shaped eye with a formed internal bearing surface allows a rope, wire, cable or another suitable connecting element to be attached, while the threaded section is used for connection to a matching threaded rod or bolt.

The component is manufactured from Q235 carbon steel and protected by a hot-dip galvanized coating. Zinc coating thickness – 86µm. The forged construction is intended for mechanical loading, while the galvanized surface helps protect the steel against corrosion in outdoor conditions.

Forged construction for outdoor electrical network and pole connections

The design combines a threaded fastening section with a wide profiled eye. This type of component is used where a mechanical attachment point must be created on a pole or other structure for connection of a rope, wire or other tension element.

    Operating principle

The nut is screwed onto a suitable externally threaded fastening element. Once tightened, the component forms a strong mechanical connection point, while its profiled eye is used to connect another structural element.

Unlike a conventional eye nut, the internal section of this eye has a wide formed bearing profile. This increases the contact area with the connected rope or wire element and helps maintain a more suitable position under load.

    Bearing eye

The profiled eye surface is formed so that a suitable rope, wire, cable or connecting fitting can be attached to it. The exact connection method must be selected according to the design of the line or structure in which the component is used.

    Forged Q235 steel construction

The main material of the product is Q235 carbon structural steel. The component is formed by forging, producing a solid mechanical construction suitable for load-transmitting joints.

A forged construction is particularly relevant in pole, overhead-line and other engineering connections where the fastening element is subjected to tensile and other mechanical loads during service.

    Hot-dip galvanizing

The steel surface is protected by hot-dip galvanizing. The specified protective coating thickness is 86µm.

    Base material Q235 carbon steel
    Surface treatment Hot-dip galvanized
    Specified zinc coating thickness 86µm
    Protection for outdoor environments

The zinc layer forms a protective barrier between the steel and the environment. For this reason, hot-dip galvanized fastening components are widely used in outdoor electrical networks, utility poles and other infrastructure structures.

    Threaded connection

The nut has a 1.021"-8 UNS-2B internal thread. During installation, only an external thread that is geometrically compatible and matches the required thread standard may be used.

    Check thread compatibility

This component must not be selected only according to an approximate rod diameter. The thread diameter, pitch and tolerance class must match. Using an incompatible thread may damage the connection and reduce its mechanical reliability.

    Main dimensions

    Parameter Dimension
    Overall height 97.1mm
    Top projection width 72.8mm
    Body dimension 44.5mm
    Upper eye width 44.1mm
    Internal opening height 43.6mm

    Mechanical strength

Minimum breaking force: 141kN. This value describes the mechanical test / breaking parameter of the product and should not be directly interpreted as the permissible working load.

141kN is not equal to the allowable working load

The design or allowable working load must be determined according to the requirements of the specific project, the applicable safety factor, joint geometry, load direction, parameters of the other connection components and the manufacturer's technical documentation.

    Practical application example

A fastening rod with the correct thread is installed in an electrical or utility-network pole. The eye nut is screwed onto the rod, creating an external mechanical connection point.

A rope or wire fastening element specified by the project is connected to the profiled eye. The shape of the eye provides a wider bearing contact than a conventional narrow eye.

The final connection load must be selected by considering not only the parameters of the eye nut itself, but also the design characteristics of the fastening rod, rope, connecting elements, support and the entire structure.

    Installation

Before installation, check the thread type, diameter, pitch and condition of both the threaded rod and the nut. The thread must not be deformed, contaminated or severely affected by corrosion.

The nut must be screwed on so that the connection load is transferred in the direction specified by the designer. The attached rope or other element must seat correctly against the profiled surface of the eye.

    Check the complete mechanical connection

When selecting the component, not only the eye nut itself but also the threaded rod, rope, wire, clamps, intermediate elements and support structure must be checked. The mechanical parameters of all components must meet the requirements of the specific project.
