Fluorescent lamp T8 | G13 | 18W | 36W | 58W | 4000K | 6500K | 60, 120, 150 cm
T8 (26 mm diameter) fluorescent tube with G13 base – a service replacement for working luminaires with an electromagnetic ballast and starter or with an electronic ballast (ECG). Intended for service and facility maintenance companies, electricians and building operators who need to replace a failed tube without modifying the luminaire.
Key point:
New T8 fluorescent tubes can no longer be placed on the EU market, yet thousands of T8 luminaires in offices, warehouses and corridors are still in operation. A service company needs a tube of the same wattage, length and colour so that the luminaire and the whole line give uniform light – this is exactly what this product is for.Base / diameter

1 pc, box – 25 pcsProduct status – remaining stock
Since 24 August 2023 the EU no longer allows new T8 fluorescent lamps for general lighting to be placed on the market. We sell existing stock, so we recommend securing a reserve for facility maintenance in advance. Existing T8 installations may continue to be used.Operating principle
The tube is fitted into the luminaire's G13 lampholders: insert the pins into both ends and rotate 90° until it locks. The luminaire is connected to the 230 V AC mains, and the tube is started and current-limited by a ballast with starter or by an electronic ballast.
During start-up the starter briefly preheats the electrodes, the ballast produces a voltage pulse and the discharge ignites. The tube then runs at its operating voltage (18 W – approx. 59 V, 36 W – approx. 103 V, 58 W – approx. 110 V according to IEC 60081), while the ballast or ECG limits the current.
The result – the luminaire is back in service without any modifications: the same lampholders, the same ballast, the same light colour as the other tubes.
Why a T8 G13 tube for service work?
A failed tube is replaced in a minute, with no need to change the luminaire, ballast or wiring, or to agree a retrofit with the client. A matching colour code (840 or 865) keeps lighting uniform across the room.Technical specifications

- Direct replacement – fits existing T8 G13 luminaires without any changes.
- Standard lengths – 60, 120 and 150 cm match most T8 luminaires.
- Two colours – 840 for offices and corridors, 865 for workshops and warehouses.
- EM and ECG compatible – works with a ballast and starter or with an electronic ballast.
- Boxes of 25 pcs – convenient for facility maintenance and keeping a reserve.
Where is it used?
- Recessed and surface-mounted T8 office luminaires
- Warehouses, production and technical rooms
- Corridors, stairwells, basements
- IP65 sealed luminaires in garages and workshops
- Schools, clinics and public buildings
- Linear luminaires in retail areas and warehouses
Use by need
For a service company.
Quickly replaces failed tubes on site and keeps a reserve until the client decides on a retrofit. For a building manager.
Maintains uniform lighting without investing in new luminaires or extra work. For an electrician.
Gets an exact replacement by wattage, length and colour code, plus starters in the same order.Practical use
If one 840 tube has failed in a 4×18 W recessed office luminaire, replace it with an 18 W 4000 K tube, and if the luminaire has an EM ballast, replace the S2 starter as well. The whole luminaire gives uniform light again without changing the luminaire or the ballast. When is it worth switching to LED T8?
If many tubes are replaced on a site or luminaires operate for long hours, consider LED T8 tubes: the same G13 base, roughly half the power, no mercury.
Important: an LED T8 is installed in a luminaire with an EM ballast by replacing the starter with an LED starter (fuse), while a direct-mains LED T8 requires removing the ballast and starter according to the LED tube wiring diagram. Do not mix fluorescent and LED tubes in one luminaire.
Pros
- Direct replacement without modifying the luminaire
- Standard T8 lengths and colour codes
- Works with EM ballast and ECG
- Boxes of 25 pcs for facility maintenance
- In stock – fast delivery
Cons / limitations
- No new production for the EU market – remaining stock only
- Contains mercury, requires proper disposal
- Higher energy consumption than LED T8
- In the cold (basements, outdoors) starts slower and gives less light
Safety and installation notes
- Switch off the luminaire supply before replacing the tube.
- Never connect the tube directly to 230 V mains – only via a ballast with starter or an ECG.
- In EM luminaires it is advisable to replace the starter together with the failed tube.
- Collect a broken tube while ventilating the room, do not handle it with bare hands and do not use a vacuum cleaner.
- Do not dispose of used tubes with household waste – take them to a WEEE collection point.

- Keep the same colour as the other tubes
- Hold a reserve for facility maintenance
Check before use:- Wattage and length on the old tube or luminaire label
- Colour code (840 or 865)
- Whether the luminaire has an EM ballast (starter needed) or an ECG
Important reminder: T5 (16 mm, G5) tubes are not interchangeable with T8, and LED T8 is not a direct replacement without changing the starter or ballast.FAQ
Will it fit my luminaire?
Yes, if the luminaire has T8 G13 lampholders and the wattage and length match (18 W – 60 cm, 36 W – 120 cm, 58 W – 150 cm).Do I need a starter?
With an EM ballast, yes: S10 for a single lamp, S2 for two 18 W lamps in tandem; with an ECG no starter is needed. What is the difference between 840 and 865?
840 is neutral white 4000 K, 865 is cool daylight 6500 K; it is better not to mix them in one luminaire. Can I buy by the box?
Yes, a box holds 25 pcs; for larger quantities please send a price enquiry. Are T8 tubes banned?
New T8 tubes can no longer be placed on the EU market, but existing stock may be sold and existing installations may be used. What should I do with a used tube?
Take it to a WEEE collection point, as the tube contains mercury.Fluorescent lamp T8 | G13 | 18W | 36W | 58W | 4000K | 6500K | 60, 120, 150 cm

Lux (lx) – illuminance: how much of that light falls on 1 m² of surface (1 lx = 1 lm/m²). Watts (W) only show power consumption – compare LED brightness by lumens.
How many lux does a room need?
Corridor, storeroom, basement 100–150 lx Living room, bedroom 100–300 lx Garage, warehouse 100–200 lx Kitchen, bathroom, desk 300–500 lx Office, computer workstation 500 lx Workshop, fine work 500–750 lx How to calculate the lumens you need
Required lumens ≈ illuminance (lx) × area (m²) ÷ 0.5
The 0.5 factor accounts for light absorbed by walls, ceiling and diffusers and for luminaires getting dirty over time. Example: 18 m² garage, 200 lx → 200 × 18 ÷ 0.5 = 7,200 lm. That is about three 150 cm T8 LED tubes of ~2,500 lm each.
This is an estimate. For an exact design (workplaces, production, public areas) use lighting calculation software, e.g. DIALux.
Recommended values are indicative, based on the principles of EN 12464-1 for workplace lighting.
3 main types of white light:
Warm white (2700 - 3000 K)
Neutral white / daylight (4000 - 4500 K)
Cool white (5000 - 6500 K)
How to choose the right light color temperature:2700 - 3000K creates a cozy atmosphere in a room. Used in spas, hotel entrances, living rooms, and bedrooms.
4000 - 4500K is used in commercial, retail, office spaces, garages, medical buildings, as well as bathrooms, kitchens, and workrooms.
5000 - 6500K is suitable for lighting workshops, operating rooms, or other areas where attention to detail is important. Also suitable for outdoor lighting, modern interiors, and their accents.
