  • Industrial 4G data transmission module | Modbus TCP / RTU → 4G | RJ45 | 5 V DC / 2 A, 8 W | M4 screw mounting | PQ-4G

The PQ-4G is an industrial 4G communication module that transmits data from Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU devices – energy analyzers, meters – over the mobile network. It connects via RJ45, runs on 5 V DC and is fixed with M4 screws. It is designed for sites without wired internet or where a backup link is needed.

    Key point:
Metering data from a remote site reaches your server, BMS, SCADA or cloud in real time without running cables or installing a separate router. The module is built specifically for Modbus data transmission, not as a general internet access point. A SIM card with a data plan and mobile coverage on site are required.

    Connection and integration

    • Modbus TCP / RTU – The module transmits Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU data over 4G. Suitable for energy analyzers and meters with a Modbus interface; confirm the specific device before ordering.
    • RJ45 – The field device connects via the RJ45 connector. Check how a Modbus RTU device is connected for your equipment.
    • 4G – Data is sent over the mobile network to a server, BMS, SCADA or cloud. The external antenna is included and can be placed outside the enclosure.
    • SIM – A SIM card with a data plan is required. Check operator coverage on site before installation.

    Operating principle

The module is fixed with M4 screws in an enclosure or on a mounting plate, and the external antenna is routed to the spot with the best signal. The field device is connected via RJ45, plus a 5 V DC / 2 A power supply.

The module receives Modbus data from the connected device and transmits it over the 4G network to the configured server or system.

Analyzer or meter readings reach your SCADA, BMS, server or cloud in real time, even though the site has no wired internet.

    Why choose the PQ-4G module?
Remote sites – pumping stations, warehouses, farms, transformer stations – become visible in the same system as the main site. No need to lay cable or wait for a wired internet connection.

    Key functions

    • Modbus TCP and RTU over 4G – one module for both Modbus variants
    • Real-time data – to a server, BMS, SCADA or cloud
    • No wired internet needed – connection via the mobile network
    • Backup link – when the main internet connection fails
    • External antenna – can be placed outside a metal enclosure
    • Industrial temperature range – operation at −20…+85 °C

How does it differ from similar products?

    • 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem (USB) – Creates a Wi-Fi hotspot for smart-MAIC devices (up to 5 units); the PQ-4G transmits Modbus TCP / RTU data via RJ45 and does not create a Wi-Fi network.
    • MQ21-4G – Only for the MQ21 analyzer, Modbus TCP, DIN rail mounting; the PQ-4G also supports Modbus RTU and is fixed with M4 screws.
    • D105 / D103 with Wi-Fi – smart-MAIC devices connect to the cloud via Wi-Fi; the PQ-4G is for other Modbus devices where there is no Wi-Fi.

    Where is it used?

    • Industrial sites without wired internet
    • Transformer stations and distribution points
    • Water pumping stations and wastewater plants
    • Agricultural sites – farms, grain dryers
    • Remote warehouses and logistics centres
    • Temporary construction site power metering

    Use by need

    Company energy managers.
See meters and analyzers at remote branches in one system without trips to take readings.
    SCADA / BMS integrators.
Bring remote Modbus devices into the system without cabling or wired internet.
    Water utility operators.
Receive pumping station power consumption data in real time and spot faults sooner.

    Practical use

If a pumping station a few kilometres away has a Modbus energy analyzer but no internet, with the PQ-4G and a SIM card the analyzer data reaches your SCADA in real time – no more trips to take readings, and anomalies show up immediately.

    Pros

    • Modbus TCP and RTU in one module
    • Compact – 89.5 × 80 × 25 mm
    • External antenna included
    • Wide operating temperature range −20…+85 °C
    • Low supply – 5 V DC, max. 8 W

    Cons / limitations

    • Requires a SIM card with a data plan and mobile coverage
    • Designed for Modbus equipment – it is not a general-purpose router
    • LTE bands are not specified – check compatibility with your local operator before ordering
    • Not intended for smart-MAIC Wi-Fi devices – use the 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem for those

    Safety and installation notes

    • Mounted in an enclosure; the 230 V side of the enclosure is wired by a qualified electrician with the power off
    • Use a regulated 5 V DC / 2 A power supply
    • Route the antenna cable away from power cables; in a metal enclosure place the antenna outside
    • Agree Modbus addresses and communication settings before commissioning to avoid conflicts on the network

    Quick selection guide

    Modbus TCP / RTU
    4G + SIM
    RJ45
    5 V DC / 2 A
    Suitable when you need:
    • transmitting Modbus metering data without wired internet
    • bringing a remote site into SCADA / BMS
    • having a backup communication link
    Check before use:
    • that your device supports Modbus TCP or RTU
    • that there is operator 4G coverage on site
    • that you have a 5 V DC / 2 A power supply and a SIM with a data plan
Important reminder: The module does not work without a SIM card with a data plan and mobile coverage. It transmits data but does not measure or process metering itself.
