  • Internet gateway SenteraWeb | Ethernet/Wi-Fi | 2×Modbus RTU | 24VDC PoM | DIN rail | IP20 | Sentera Controls | DIG-M-2

DIG-M-2 – a Sentera Controls internet gateway that connects a single Sentera device or their entire Modbus RTU network to the SenteraWeb cloud. The internet connection is via wired Ethernet or wireless Wi-Fi; mounting – DIN rail, protection class IP20.

    Key idea:
The gateway turns local ventilation automation into a remotely maintained system: settings can be changed from the office, data is logged in the cloud, and you learn about a clogged filter or a motor fault from a notification rather than a customer's phone call.
    Internet connection
    Ethernet or Wi-Fi
    Modbus
    2 Modbus RTU (RS485) channels
    Power supply
24 VDC PoM, Imax 330 mA
    Installation / protection
    DIN rail, IP20

    Operating principle

The module is mounted on a DIN rail and powered with 24 VDC over Modbus (PoM, Imax 330 mA) through the same UTP cable that carries the data; it has 3 RJ45 sockets – for subordinate devices, the main controller or BMS, and Ethernet internet – plus a 24 VDC output for auxiliary devices. The internet connection is via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz).

On the master Modbus RTU channel the module polls the connected Sentera controllers, sensors and controllers, while on the second (slave) channel it is itself accessible from the main controller or BMS, so SenteraWeb and the existing automation work together. Data is sent using the MQTT protocol, TCP, UDP and HTTP client modes are supported, the real-time clock has a backup battery, and the firmware is updated over the internet. The internal backup memory preserves data if the internet connection is temporarily lost.

Result – via SenteraWeb the setpoints, limits and parameters of connected devices are changed, firmware updates are installed, data is logged, and alerts (e.g. dirty filter, motor fault) arrive without a site visit.

    Benefits DIG-M-2?
One module provides remote access to the entire Sentera Modbus system – fewer service visits, faster fault diagnostics and data history for the customer.

    Main functions

    • SenteraWeb access – Configuring and monitoring Sentera devices over the internet.
    • Two Modbus RTU channels – SenteraWeb and the BMS / master controller can work with the same system at the same time.
    • Warnings and notifications – e.g. a clogged filter or a motor fault – the message arrives without a site visit.
    • Data logging – history of measurements and statuses in the SenteraWeb database.
    • Remote update – firmware and parameters of connected devices are updated via SenteraWeb.
    • PoM power supply – 24 VDC and Modbus over a single UTP cable; 24 VDC output for auxiliary devices.
    • MQTT, TCP / UDP / HTTP client – standard internet communication protocols.
    • Backup memory – if the internet connection is lost, the data is stored in the module.
    • Real-time clock – with a backup battery – correct data timestamps.

    Where is it used?

    • Ventilation systems with Sentera speed controllers and sensors that need to be monitored remotely
    • Automation panels – mounting on a DIN rail next to other Sentera DIN modules
    • Commercial premises, schools, offices – filter and fan status notifications
    • Agricultural buildings, greenhouses, warehouses without permanent staff
    • Sites that already have a BMS but also need SenteraWeb access
    • Service contracts – remote diagnostics and settings changes
    • Sites where Wi-Fi is unstable – wired Ethernet connection

    On-demand operation

    For ventilation service companies.
System status is visible from the office, and if the internet connection drops, the data stays in the module's memory.
    For commercial building BMS integrators.
The second Modbus channel lets the BMS remain the master controller while also using SenteraWeb.
    For building administrators.
Receives filter and fault notifications over a reliable wired Ethernet connection.

    Practical application

If an office building BMS already controls Sentera controllers over Modbus, and the service company wants to receive filter contamination notifications, then the DIG-M-2 is installed in the panel between the BMS (slave channel) and the Sentera devices (master channel), connected with an Ethernet cable, and the data goes to SenteraWeb without disconnecting the BMS.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

The DIG-M-2 always sits between the Sentera Modbus network and the internet – only the connected equipment changes:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Office, school – ventilation according to CO₂ Sentera CO₂ sensors and speed controllers → Modbus channel for slave devices Ventilation runs on demand; CO₂ history and settings – SenteraWeb A unique Modbus address for each device
Building with BMS BMS → second Modbus channel; Sentera devices → main channel BMS and SenteraWeb work together without conflicting over the line Match the BMS channel communication parameters to the BMS
Duct system with filters Sentera differential pressure transmitter via Modbus A notification is received when the filter becomes clogged Set the warning threshold in SenteraWeb
Greenhouse, warehouse, farm building Sentera temperature / humidity sensors and controllers The microclimate is monitored remotely, with alarms delivered as notifications Where Wi-Fi is weak, use an Ethernet cable
Upgrading an existing Sentera system The module is plugged into an existing PoM Modbus line The system gets remote access without replacing devices Check the power reserve of the PoM source

How to choose an internet gateway

Installation location / internet connection Recommended model
Panel (DIN rail); Ethernet or Wi-Fi DIG-M-2 (DIN, Ethernet / Wi-Fi, IP20) ← this model
Panel (DIN rail); Wi-Fi only DIGWM (DIN, Wi-Fi, IP30)
    On a wall; Ethernet or Wi-Fi SIG-M-2 (wall-mounted, Ethernet / Wi-Fi, IP54)
    On a wall, more demanding environment; Wi-Fi only SIGWM (wall-mounted, Wi-Fi, IP65)
Rule: first decide on the installation location (panel – DIN models DIG-M-2 / DIGWM, wall – SIG-M-2 / SIGWM), then the internet connection: if an Ethernet cable can be run on site – choose a model with Ethernet (DIG-M-2, SIG-M-2); if only Wi-Fi is available – DIGWM or SIGWM. For damp or dusty environments – wall-mounted models with IP54 / IP65.
When to choose another solution: for local configuration from a computer – CNVT-USB-RS485-V2 / CNVT-USB-RS485-SET; for PoM power and distribution – PDM-8-MB, MDB-M-6, DMDBM22.

    Pros

    • Remote monitoring and configuration via SenteraWeb
    • Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection
    • 2 Modbus RTU channels – BMS compatible
    • Fault and filter notifications
    • Power over Modbus (PoM) – a single UTP cable
    • Clock with backup battery, updated via the internet
    • IP20 enclosure, mounting – DIN rail

    Cons / limitations

    • An internet connection is required on site
    • Designed for Sentera devices and the SenteraWeb platform
    • Higher current demand (up to 330 mA) than the DIGWM Wi-Fi module (35 mA)
    • IP20 – mount in a panel; without a panel – the wall-mounted SIG-M-2 (IP54)

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified electrician or automation specialist with the power disconnected.
    • Do not connect two circuits to a PoM power supply at the same time – the device and/or the power supply may be damaged.
    • Use in an environment of -40…+85 °C, 5–85 % rH, non-condensing.
    • Use the PROG jumpers and the reset switch only as instructed – they change the communication settings and may break the Wi-Fi connection.
