Lumens (Lm) are the unit of measurement for light flux, indicating the intensity and brightness of light emitted by a lamp or light fixture. Based on their quantity, you can choose a light fixture that will properly illuminate the entire room.

How to choose the right number of lumens in a light fixture?

450-800 Lm are used for decorative lighting, table lamps, bedside lamps. Light fixtures with up to 800 Lm brightness are suitable for creating a cozy environment.
800-1100 Lm are used for small rooms (bedrooms, hallways).
1100-1600 Lm are used for medium-sized spaces such as dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and children's rooms.
1600-3000 Lm are used for large rooms (shopping malls, entire 11-18 square meter rooms).
Light fixtures with more than 3000 Lm emit very bright and intense light. They are used in workshops, garages, and industrial spaces.
To accurately calculate the required number of lumens for a room, use the formula:

Lm = 150 lx * 4π * (distance in meters to the surface)²

Beam angle – this is the angle at which light spreads on the floor. By selecting the correct beam angle for a light fixture or lamp, the room will be adequately lit.

When choosing a light fixture’s beam angle, consider the following factors:

The primary lighting of the room, which covers the entire space. In bedrooms, living rooms, garages, and bathrooms, the light fixture beam angle should be between 120° to 90°, depending on the size of the room.
Accent lighting, which illuminates a specific part of the room. Fixtures with narrower beam angles are used for this type of lighting.
Decorative lighting, which highlights a desired object. Narrow or very narrow beam angle fixtures are used for this purpose.
The type of building. Rooms with high ceilings and smaller spaces need fewer fixtures with narrower beams. Rooms with lower ceilings and larger spaces require light fixtures with wider beam angles. For rooms with a ceiling height of 2.4 to 2.7 m, a fixture with a wider beam angle of 60° is needed.
In residential buildings, it is recommended to choose light fixtures with a beam angle of 40° to 60°. However, for larger rooms, it is better to choose a beam angle greater than 60°.
For specific objects (stairs, closets, kitchen cabinets), a narrower beam angle of around 25° is suitable.
In offices, where people spend most of their time at computers, narrower beam angle fixtures are necessary to ensure higher intensity.
In warehouses with high ceilings, it is worth choosing several fixtures with a narrower beam angle. To install wide beam fixtures, it is better to mount them on the wall.
Retail stores require bright and intense light, which is achieved with fixtures that have narrower beam angles. A wider beam may be used to illuminate the entire store.
In restaurants, it is recommended to use narrow beam light. To highlight the décor, narrow beams from 10° to 25° are used.
Application of beam angle:

A narrow beam angle illuminates a smaller area but emits more intense light.
A medium beam angle is applied in living areas but is also ideal for lighting in clothing stores and commercial spaces.
A wide beam angle is suitable for outdoor lighting, for example, to light a large commercial store.
A very wide beam angle is used for outdoor floodlights and street lighting.

3 main types of white light:

Warm white (2700 - 3000 K)
Neutral white / daylight (4000 - 4500 K)
Cool white (5000 - 6500 K)
How to choose the right light color temperature:

2700 - 3000K creates a cozy atmosphere in a room. Used in spas, hotel entrances, living rooms, and bedrooms.
4000 - 4500K is used in commercial, retail, office spaces, garages, medical buildings, as well as bathrooms, kitchens, and workrooms.
5000 - 6500K is suitable for lighting workshops, operating rooms, or other areas where attention to detail is important. Also suitable for outdoor lighting, modern interiors, and their accents.
