Modbus RTU distribution box PoM | 6×RJ45 | 24VDC | 1.5A | surface-mounted | IP65 | Sentera Controls | MDB-M-6
The MDB-M-6 is a compact Sentera Controls Power over Modbus (PoM) distribution box with 6 RJ45 sockets. Each socket carries the Modbus RTU signal and 24 VDC power, so sensors, controllers and speed controllers are connected with a single UTP cable.
Key idea:
The IP65 enclosure allows the box to be mounted directly on a wall or structure – where several devices meet, without a separate panel. Nothing needs to be configured.Connections
6 × RJ45 (Modbus RTU + 24 VDC)Max. current
1.5 A totalPower supply
24 VDC via Modbus (PoM)Installation / protection
Surface-mounted, IP65Operating principle
The box is surface-mounted, one RJ45 socket is fed with a Modbus RTU line with 24 VDC (e.g. from a Sentera power module), and the other sockets distribute it to the connected devices. The contacts of all sockets J1–J6 are identical: 1–2 – 24 VDC, 3–4 – A, 5–6 – /B, 7–8 – GND.
The total output current is up to 1.5 A, and also no more than 1.5 A per channel, with a maximum total cable length of 100 m. The box is passive – no software or settings are needed.
Result – the PoM line branches out right at the devices without a panel and terminal boxes: the IP65 enclosure is rated for an environment of -30…+70 °C and 20–90 % rH, and a green LED at each socket shows whether the device is receiving power.
Benefits MDB-M-6?
Quick connection of Sentera PoM devices on site without a panel – even in damp or dusty environments.Technical specifications

Main functions
- 6 × RJ45 PoM – data and 24 VDC power over a single UTP cable.
- IP65 enclosure – installed away from the panel – next to the devices, in technical rooms.
- No configuration needed – switch it on and it works.
- LED at each socket – you can see at a glance whether the device is receiving power.
- Uniform socket layout – the contacts of all J1–J6 are identical – fewer wiring errors.
- Wide operating range – -30…+70 °C, 20–90 % rH non-condensing.
Where is it used?
- Environment of air handling units: sensors, speed controllers and frequency converters with Modbus
- Technical rooms, attics, warehouses without a control panel
- Agricultural buildings
- Sentera PoM line branching
- Unheated rooms and rooftop fan areas (-30…+70 °C)
- Connecting several room sensors into a single PoM line in a corridor
On-demand operation
For farm building ventilation installers.
The IP65 box is installed in a barn or warehouse without a panel.For ventilation chamber installers.
Six sockets – devices are connected on site with factory UTP cables.For the automation integrator.
A clear PoM topology with no junction boxes and no configuration.Practical application
If three pressure transmitters, a temperature transmitter and a controller have to be connected in a ventilation chamber without a panel, then the MDB-M-6 on the wall distributes the PoM line: one RJ45 for the input, five for devices, as long as the total current does not exceed 1.5 A and the total cable length does not exceed 100 m.Application guide: how it is used in practice
The MDB-M-6 always splits one PoM line into several – only the connected equipment differs:
Site What is connected Result Installer's note Duct ventilation unit Differential pressure transmitter, frequency converter, controller → RJ45 sockets All devices on a single Modbus line with power Total cable length ≤100 m Attic / technical room PoM power module → J1; sensors → J2–J6 No control panel or terminal boxes needed IP65 – suitable for dusty environments Extension of an existing system New Sentera devices → free sockets The system can be extended without rewiring Check the 1.5 A budget How to choose PoM distribution and power supply
Requirement Recommended model 6 RJ45 devices, surface mounting, IP65 MDB-M-6 (6 × RJ45, 1.5 A) ← this model Panel: 10 × RJ45 24 VDC + 12 × RJ12 3.3 VDC, -30…+85 °C DMDBM22 (DIN, 1.5 A) Panel: 10 × RJ45 24 VDC + 12 × RJ12 3.3 VDC (up to 0.3 A), 0…60 °C DLDBM22 (DIN, 1.5 A / 0.3 A) 24 VDC PoM supply from 85–264 VAC mains + RS485 repeater PDM-8-MB (2 × 24 VDC / 20 W) Rule: add up the currents of all connected devices – ≤1.5 A; total cable length ≤100 m. For more connections in a panel – DMDBM22 / DLDBM22; for power from 230 VAC – PDM-8-MB.When to choose another solution: for a panel with 10 × RJ45 and 12 × RJ12 – DMDBM22 or DLDBM22; for PoM power from the mains – PDM-8-MB.Pros
- IP65 – installed without a panel
- 6 RJ45 PoM connectors
- No configuration needed
- LED at each socket
- Compact and lightweight
Cons / limitations
- Total current limited to 1.5 A
- Total cable length up to 100 m
- It does not generate 24 VDC itself – a PoM power supply is required, e.g. PDM-8-MB
- No 3.3 VDC RJ12 connectors – for those use the DMDBM22 / DLDBM22
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified electrician or automation specialist with the power disconnected.
- Do not exceed 1.5 A total current and 1.5 A per channel.
- Total cable length – no more than 100 m.
- Use in an environment of -30…+70 °C, 20–90 % rH, non-condensing.
Quick selection guide
Modbus RTU6 × RJ4524 VDC PoM1.5 AIP65Suitable when you need:- to branch the Sentera PoM line to several devices;
- to mount the distribution outside a panel, in a damp or dusty environment;
- to connect devices without configuration.
Check before use:- the sum of the currents of the devices (≤1.5 A);
- the total cable length (≤100 m);
- the PoM power supply.
Important reminder: The MDB-M-6 is not a power supply – 24 VDC is supplied to the line from a PoM power module.FAQ
