  • Modular electronic fan speed controller | Modbus RTU | TK | 6A | 110-230VAC | DIN rail | Sentera Controls | DVSS8-60-DM

DVSS8-60-DM – Sentera Controls modular electronic speed controller for single-phase voltage-controllable AC fans up to 6 A, mounted on a DIN rail in a control panel. Powered from a 110–230 VAC supply, controlled only via Modbus RTU or SenteraWeb, it has a TK input for motor thermal protection and a remote on / off input.

    Key idea:
This is a “digital” controller without an analogue input and without a knob: its speed is set by a BMS, Modbus controller or the SenteraWeb cloud. It is intended for buildings where all ventilation is controlled and monitored centrally.
    What it is for DVSS8-60-DM:
This model is designed for more powerful fans (up to 6 A) – roof or duct fans in warehouses, workshops, halls or a group of fans.
    Max. motor current
    6 A
    Control
    Modbus RTU / SenteraWeb
    Power supply
    110–230 VAC ±10 %, 50–60 Hz
    Installation
    DIN rail, IP20

    Operating principle

The controller is mounted on a DIN rail in a control panel. Connect the power supply, the motor (U1, U2), the Modbus RTU line (RJ45 socket or spring terminals A, /B) and, if required, the motor thermal contacts to TK and the remote control contact to DI.

Phase-angle control with zero-crossing detection: the effective value of the motor supply voltage is varied, so the output voltage is not purely sinusoidal. Us – supply voltage (110–230 VAC, frequency detected automatically).

The output value (20–100 % Us) is set via Modbus register HR13. Via Modbus you can also set the min. (20–70 % Us) and max. (75–100 % Us) limits, the start-up mode (soft or fast, 2–20 s) and the “Run / Stop” operating mode.

Result – the fan runs at exactly the speed required and consumes less electricity than when running continuously at full speed. Engineer's note: with an AC induction motor, reducing the voltage increases slip and rotor losses, so the savings are lower than with an EC fan or a frequency inverter. When energy efficiency is the top priority, choose an EC fan; when completely silent operation at low speed is essential, choose a transformer controller with a sinusoidal output voltage.

    Benefits DVSS8-60-DM?
Wide supply range of 110–230 VAC, TK input with automatic motor stop on overheating, remote switch-on, RGB status LED and automatic restart after power failure – a reliable solution for centrally controlled ventilation.

Original manufacturer documentation – technical data, wiring diagrams and installation instructions.

    Main functions

    • Control via Modbus RTU – speed, limits, start-up and operating modes are changed from the BMS, SCADA or any Modbus controller.
    • SenteraWeb – via the Sentera internet module – remote control, day / night profiles, alerts and data logging.
    • TK input – with the motor thermal contact connected, an overheated motor is stopped automatically; the protection is reset by disconnecting the power supply.
    • Remote switch-on (DI) – the fan can be stopped by an external contact, e.g. from the fire alarm system.
    • Wide supply range 110–230 VAC – suitable for both 230 V and 110–120 V networks; frequency is detected automatically.
    • Adjustable min. / max. limits – the minimum limit prevents the motor from standing still while energised and overheating; the maximum limit restricts speed and noise.
    • Unregulated output (up to 2 A) – for a damper actuator, valve or indicator lamp.
    • RGB LED and automatic restart – the status is visible immediately, and after a power failure the ventilation restores itself.

    Where is it used?

    • Buildings with a centralised BMS ventilation control system
    • Warehouses and industrial premises
    • Buildings where ventilation is controlled via SenteraWeb
    • Office and retail ventilation with day / night modes
    • Automation control panels
    • Fans with motor thermal contacts (TK)

    On-demand operation

    For the BMS integrator.
All parameters are accessible via Modbus registers – the controller simply becomes another network device.
    For the ventilation installer.
TK, DI and the L1 output mean fewer additional relays and protective devices on site.
    For the building administrator.
Via SenteraWeb you can view the status, receive alerts and change the speed remotely.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

DVSS8-60-DM has no analogue input, so the speed is always set via Modbus RTU. Typical applications:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Building with BMS / SCADA Modbus RTU line → RJ45 or A, /B BMS sets the speed (HR13) and monitors the status, including overheating A separate Modbus address for each controller
Ventilation via the internet Sentera internet module → Modbus Control from SenteraWeb: day / night profiles, alerts, data logging Internet module purchased separately
Fan with thermal contact Motor TK contacts → TK input An overheated motor is stopped and the LED lights red Protection is reset by disconnecting the power supply
Fire shutdown Fire alarm NC contact → DI When the signal appears, the fan is stopped DI input – NC, 24 V
Fan with damper Damper actuator → L1 output The damper is powered together with the fan L1 load – up to 2 A
110–120 VAC network Power supply 110–120 VAC Works without any separate modification The motor must be rated for the same voltage

How to select the controller current

Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    up to 3 A DVSS8-30-DM (3 A)
    3–6 A DVSS8-60-DM (6 A) ← this model
Rule: controller max. current ≥ motor rated current (see the motor nameplate). The starting current is already accounted for by the manufacturer; no additional margin is needed. When connecting several fans – motors of the same type – add up their rated currents. For higher currents, choose the MVSS1 series (up to 10 A).
When to choose another solution: control by a 0-10 VDC sensor needed – MVSS1 (DIN) series with analogue input; surface-mounted IP54 enclosure needed – NVSS8-60-DM; for an EC fan – an EC controller with 0-10 VDC output; for a three-phase motor – a three-phase transformer controller or a frequency inverter.

    Pros

    • Power supply 110–230 VAC
    • TK input with automatic motor stop
    • Remote on / off (DI)
    • Modbus RTU via RJ45 and terminals, SenteraWeb
    • RGB status LED
    • Automatic restart after power failure

    Cons / limitations

    • No analogue 0-10 VDC input and no knob – a Modbus controller or SenteraWeb is required
    • Only for single-phase voltage-controllable motors; not suitable for EC fans
    • A tripped TK protection is reset only by disconnecting the power supply
    • IP20 – for control panel installation only
    • The output voltage is non-sinusoidal – some motors may hum audibly at low speed

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • Use only with voltage-controllable fans; motor current – 0.2–6 A.
    • Several fans can be connected to one controller, provided their total current does not exceed 6 A.
    • Set the minimum voltage so that the motor does not stall under load or during mains voltage fluctuations.
    • Remember: after a power failure and restoration, the fan restarts automatically.
