  • Passive duct temperature sensor | PT500 | 150mm | -50-80°C | IP30 | Sentera Controls | TUTSN-P500-150

TUTSN-P500-150 – Sentera Controls passive duct temperature sensor with a platinum PT500 element in a 150 mm long plastic tube. Intended for ducts with a diameter smaller than 300 mm, measuring range -50…+80 °C.

    Key idea:
When ventilation automation needs to know the supply or extract air temperature and the controller has a PT500 input, this sensor is the simplest solution: insert it into the duct, connect two wires, and that is all.
    Sensing element
    PT500 (500 Ω at 0 °C)
    Tube length
150 mm (for ducts up to 300 mm)
    Measuring range
    -50…+80 °C
    Protection class
    IP30

    Operating principle

The 150 mm plastic sensor tube is inserted through a hole into the duct so that the element sits in the middle of the airflow – this length is chosen for ducts with a diameter below 300 mm. Install at temperatures above -5 °C; the 1 m 0.5 mm² wires are extended to the controller.

The resistance of the platinum PT500 element (500 Ω at 0 °C) increases linearly with temperature per IEC 60751 / DIN EN 60751; the controller supplies a 0.1–0.3 mA measuring current and calculates the temperature from the resistance.

Result – duct air temperature within -50…+80 °C with F0.3 class accuracy: error ±(0.30 + 0.005·|T|) °C, i.e. ±0.40 °C at 20 °C. The sensor is passive, with no 0-10 VDC or Modbus output, intended for dry, non-corrosive environments only; if the controller has no PT500 input, choose the Modbus duct sensor DTS-M.

    Benefits TUTSN-P500-150?
The wide range of -50…+80 °C covers both outdoor air and heated supply air temperatures, and the standard PT500 element suits most ventilation unit controllers.

    Main functions

    • Platinum PT500 element – standardized characteristic, no calibration needed.
    • Wide range -50…+80 °C – suitable for outdoor, supply and extract air ducts.
    • 150 mm tube – the element reaches the middle of the airflow in ducts up to 300 mm in diameter.
    • Accuracy class F0.3 – ±0.40 °C at 20 °C – sufficient for supply air temperature control.
    • Self-heating ≤ 0.5 K/mW – at an airflow of 1 m/s the measuring current practically does not distort the readings.
    • 1 m wires – can be extended up to the controller.
    • No power supply needed – no separate power line is needed.

    Where is it used?

    • Apartment and small office ventilation ducts up to Ø300 mm
    • Supply air temperature downstream of a heater or cooler
    • Extract air ducts
    • Outdoor (fresh) air ducts down to -50 °C
    • Heat recovery unit automation
    • BMS duct temperature monitoring
    • Replacing existing PT500 duct sensors

    On-demand operation

    For heat recovery unit installers.
The 150 mm tube is exactly right for ducts of apartments and cottages up to 300 mm, and the PT500 connects straight to the controller.
    For service engineers.
Replaces a faulty PT500 duct sensor with the same characteristic, without reprogramming the controller.
    For ventilation unit manufacturers.
A compact passive PT500 sensor for the air handling unit duct, with no separate power supply line.

    Practical application

If the supply air duct of an apartment heat recovery unit is Ø160 mm and the controller has a PT500 input, then the TUTSN-P500-150 is inserted into the duct after the heater and the controller receives the air temperature with ±0.40 °C accuracy at 20 °C.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

TUTSN-P500-150 is suitable wherever the controller has a PT500 input and the duct diameter is smaller than 300 mm:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Air handling unit with an electric heater TUTSN-P500-150 in the supply air duct → controller PT500 input Heater output is regulated according to the supply air temperature Install downstream of the heater, where the air is already mixed
Heat recovery unit TUTSN-P500-150 in the outdoor air duct The controller knows the outdoor temperature – frost protection, mode switching The temperature during installation must be > -5 °C
Extract air duct TUTSN-P500-150 → BMS Extract air temperature is used as an indicator of room temperature Only for dry, non-corrosive environments
Water heater protection TUTSN-P500-150 downstream of the water heating coil The controller monitors the air temperature downstream of the heating coil Use shielded cable for a longer line

How to choose a sensing element and length

Controller input / duct diameter Recommended model
    PT500, duct < 300 mm TUTSN-P500-150 (PT500, 150 mm) ← this model
    PT500, duct > 300 mm TUTSN-P500-250 (PT500, 250 mm)
    PT1000, duct < 300 mm TUTSN-P1K0-150 (PT1000, 150 mm)
    PT1000, duct > 300 mm TUTSN-P1K0-250 (PT1000, 250 mm)
Rule: the element (PT500 or PT1000) must match the controller input; tube length – 150 mm for ducts up to 300 mm, 250 mm for ducts larger than 300 mm.
    When to choose another solution: for a room – ROTSN series (wall-mounted, PT100 / PT500 / PT1000); with a cable or for immersion – FLTSN series; with a Modbus RTU output – DTS-M-080 / DTS-M-160.

    Pros

    • Wide range -50…+80 °C
    • 150 mm tube for ducts up to 300 mm
    • Standard platinum PT500 element
    • Accuracy class F0.3
    • No power supply or settings needed
    • Simple installation through a hole in the duct

    Cons / limitations

    • No 0-10 VDC or Modbus output – a controller with a PT500 input is required; for a Modbus system choose DTS-M-080 / DTS-M-160
    • IP30 – dry, non-corrosive environment only
    • The installation temperature must be above -5 °C
    • Wire pull force < 5 N – do not pull on the wires

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified installer.
    • Use only in a dry, non-corrosive environment.
    • Install when the ambient temperature is above -5 °C.
    • Do not pull the sensor by its wires (pull force < 5 N).
    • For extension use a shielded cable, away from 230 V lines.

    Suitable when you need:
    • to measure air temperature in a duct with a diameter smaller than 300 mm;
    • to connect to a controller or BMS with a PT500 input;
    • to replace an old passive duct sensor.
    Check before use:
    • the controller input type (PT500 or PT1000);
    • the duct diameter – 150 or 250 mm tube;
    • whether the environment is dry and non-corrosive.
Important reminder: TUTSN-P500-150 – a passive sensor; it will not work with a controller that accepts only a 0-10 VDC or Modbus signal.
