Passive room temperature sensor | PT100 | IP30 | Sentera Controls | ROTSN-P100
The ROTSN-P100 is a Sentera Controls passive room temperature sensor with a platinum PT100 element. It is a resistive sensor with no power supply or electronics: its resistance (100 Ω at 0 °C) increases linearly with temperature and is read by a controller, BMS or speed controller with a PT100 input.
Key idea:
The simplest and most reliable way to deliver room temperature to the automation: a flat wall-mounted housing with covered terminals, no power supply, no configuration – just two wires and the display to the controller's PT100 input.Sensing element
PT100 (100 Ω at 0 °C)Accuracy class
F0.3 (IEC 60751)Operating temperature
-20…+60 °CProtection class
IP30, wall-mountedOperating principle
The ROTSN-P100 is mounted on the room wall with two Ø6 mm screws (hole spacing 104.5 mm). The sensor is connected to terminals T1 and T2, and the shield of the shielded cable (up to 1.5 mm²) is connected to the SH terminal and earthed only at the controller end, to reduce electromagnetic interference on longer runs.
The sensor element is soldered to a printed circuit board in a plastic housing and measures the ambient air temperature. The resistance of the platinum PT100 element (100 Ω at 0 °C) rises with temperature according to the DIN / IEC 60751 characteristic; the controller passes a measuring current of 0.1–1.0 mA through the sensor and calculates the temperature from the voltage drop.
Result – the controller or BMS receives the room temperature with F0.3 class accuracy (±0.30 °C at 0 °C … ±0.60 °C at 60 °C) with no power supply or settings. The sensor has no 0-10 VDC or Modbus output, so it suits only a controller with a PT100 input; for Modbus systems choose the DTS-M sensor with the DTS-MB-BK-ASM wall bracket.
Benefits ROTSN-P100?
No power supply, settings or programming needed – a PT100 sensor with accuracy class F0.3 and long-term stability (< ±0.04 %) has a long service life and is easy to replace.Technical specifications

Main functions
- Platinum PT100 element – linear and standardized (IEC 60751) characteristic – no calibration needed.
- Accuracy class F0.3 – ±0.30 °C at 0 °C, ±0.60 °C at 60 °C – sufficient for room climate control.
- Long-term stability < ±0.04 % – readings do not drift even after several years.
- Response time in air t0.9 ≤ 8.0 s – the controller quickly senses a change in room temperature.
- Self-heating ≤ 0.8 K/mW – with a 0.1–1.0 mA measuring current, the sensor practically does not distort the readings.
- Low-profile housing – does not clutter the interior, terminals are covered.
- Shield terminal SH – easy to connect a shielded cable and reduce interference.
- No power supply needed – no separate 24 V line to the sensor is needed.
Where is it used?
- Temperature measurement in offices and meeting rooms
- School classrooms and lecture halls
- Room heating and cooling control via a BMS
- Ventilation unit controllers with a PT100 input
- Residential building heating controllers
- Hotel rooms and other dry rooms
- Replacing existing PT100 room sensors during modernization
On-demand operation
For the BMS integrator.
For a controller with a PT100 input, the sensor connects directly, without converters and without a separate power supply line. For service engineers.
Replaces an old PT100 room sensor with the same IEC 60751 characteristic – no need to reprogram the controller. For the electrical installer.
Two wires to T1, T2 and the shield to SH – installed in a few minutes, no configuration.Practical application
If an office BMS controller has a PT100 input, then the ROTSN-P100 is connected with two wires to T1, T2 and with the shield to SH, and the controller receives the room temperature with class F0.3 accuracy (±0.40 °C at 20 °C) with no power supply at all.Application guide: how it is used in practice
The ROTSN-P100 is used wherever the controller has a PT100 input – only the location and what the controller controls change:
Site What is connected Result Installer's note Office, meeting room ROTSN-P100 → BMS controller PT100 input Heating / cooling is regulated according to the actual room temperature Install at a height of ~1.5 m, away from radiators and sunlight School classroom ROTSN-P100 → ventilation unit controller The supply air temperature is adjusted according to the room temperature Route the cable separately from 230 V lines Residential building ROTSN-P100 → heating controller with a PT100 input Room temperature is maintained without overheating Ground the shield (SH) on the controller side only Modernisation of an old system The existing PT100 sensor is replaced with ROTSN-P100 Same characteristic – no need to change the controller settings Check that the controller input is really PT100 How to choose a sensing element
Controller input type Recommended model PT100 (100 Ω at 0 °C) ROTSN-P100 (PT100, room) ← this model PT500 (500 Ω at 0 °C) ROTSN-P500 (PT500, room) PT1000 (1000 Ω at 0 °C) ROTSN-P1K0 (PT1000, room) Rule: the sensing element must match the controller input type (PT100, PT500 or PT1000) – otherwise the readings will be wrong. For long lines PT1000 is less sensitive to lead resistance than PT100. Always use a shielded cable.When to choose another solution: for a duct – TUTSN series (PT500 / PT1000, 150 or 250 mm); with a cable or for immersion in a thermowell – FLTSN series (PT100 / PT500 / PT1000 / NTC); when Modbus RTU is needed – DTS-M (duct) or DTP-M (strap-on).Pros
- No power supply or settings needed
- Standard PT100 element per IEC 60751
- Accuracy class F0.3
- Long-term stability < ±0.04 %
- Low-profile housing, covered terminals
- Shield terminal SH
Cons / limitations
- No 0-10 VDC or Modbus output – a controller with a PT100 input is required; for a Modbus system choose DTS-M with the DTS-MB-BK-ASM bracket
- No display, buttons or setting knob
- IP30 – only for dry rooms without condensation
- Operating range only -20…+60 °C
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified installer.
- Use a shielded cable and earth the shield on the controller side only.
- Do not install near heat sources, direct sunlight or draughts – the readings will be distorted.
- IP30 – do not use in damp rooms or where condensation forms.
Quick selection guide
