  • Potentiometer for EC fan | Sentera Controls | SPV-8-010-PM

    SPV-8-010-PM – Sentera Controls 230 VAC potentiometer with Modbus RTU, designed for stepless control of EC motors with a 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or 0–100 % PWM signal. Supplied with 85–264 VAC, while Vmin, Vmax, direction and output type are set via Modbus RTU.

    Key idea:
    The potentiometer is supplied directly from the mains and is also a Modbus RTU device – the BMS sees and changes its settings, while the user in the room has a familiar knob. In the OFF position the output is 0 VDC.
    Power supply
    85–264 VAC, 50–60 Hz
    AO1 output
    0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA / PWM 1 kHz
    Communication
    Modbus RTU (RS485)
    OFF / contact
    OFF – 0 VDC

    Operating principle

    The potentiometer is connected to the 85–264 VAC mains (L, N), the Modbus RTU line (A, /B) and the input of the controlled device (AO1, GND).

    This is not a power controller – it only generates a control signal, and the speed is changed by the electronics of the EC motors themselves.

    AO1 modes: 0-10 VDC (RL ≥ 50 kΩ), 0-20 mA (RL ≤ 500 Ω), PWM 1 kHz (RL ≥ 50 kΩ). Vmin is set to 0–4 VDC / 0–8 mA / 0–40 % PWM, Vmax – 6–10 VDC / 12–20 mA / 60–100 % PWM via Modbus RTU; the control direction is also selected there.

    Engineer's note: the bootloader mode allows the firmware to be updated via Modbus RTU, so the device can be updated already installed on site.

    Benefits SPV-8-010-PM?
    Mains supply, Modbus RTU and manual control in one flush-mounted enclosure – no 24 V power supply unit or separate Modbus module needed.

    Main functions

    • Supply from the mains 85–264 VAC – no 24 V power supply unit needed.
    • Modbus RTU – Vmin, Vmax and direction are set remotely; the device is visible in the BMS.
    • Three output types – 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or PWM 1 kHz.
    • OFF position – output 0 VDC – the fan stops.
    • Bootloader – firmware updates via Modbus RTU.
    • Universal enclosure – flush-mounted IP44 or surface-mounted IP54, push-in terminals.

    Where is it used?

    • Offices, halls, hotels with BMS
    • EC duct and roof fans
    • Rooms without 24 V automation
    • AC fans with EVS / MVS controllers
    • Damper actuators

    On-demand operation

    For the automation / BMS integrator.
    Settings via Modbus RTU, firmware update possible.
    For the electrician.
    Supply from the existing 230 VAC line.
    For the user.
    A conventional knob in the room.

    Application guide: how it is used in practice

    SPV-8-010-PM can be adapted to different sites – only what is connected changes:

    Site What is connected Result Installer's note
    Office or hall with BMS Modbus RTU → A, /B; AO1 → EC fan Manual control, the BMS sees the setting A unique Modbus address for each device
    Room without 24 V automation L, N ← 230 VAC; AO1 → EC fan Control without a power supply unit Route signal and mains cables separately
    AC fan with an electronic controller AO1 (0-10 VDC) → Sentera EVS / MVS controller input Manual AC fan control Signal GND – to the controller GND
    Damper with a 0-20 mA actuator AO1 (0-20 mA) → actuator Manual damper control In current mode, load ≤ 500 Ω

    How to select the controller current

    Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    OFF and Modbus RTU needed, one EC fan SPV-8-010-PM (OFF, Modbus RTU) ← this model
    Dry contact (4 A) and Modbus RTU needed SPV-8-010-CP (dry contact 4 A, Modbus RTU)
    Control of several EC fans with one signal needed SPV-8-010-MF (0-10 VDC, RL ≥ 1 kΩ, dry contact 4 A)
    EBM-Papst FFU control via Modbus / DCI needed (up to 20 pcs) SPVL8-010-EP (Modbus / DCI, up to 20 fans)
    Rule: choose according to your needs: one EC fan and OFF – PM; external equipment needs to be controlled – CP (contact 4 A); a group of several fans with one signal – MF (total input resistance ≥ 1 kΩ); EBM-Papst FFU with DCI – SPVL8-010-EP. Motor power has no influence on the selection.
    When to choose another solution: without Modbus with 230 VAC supply – MTVN1 series; with a display and steps – RDCV9-AD; 24 VDC with Modbus – SDP-M010 series; EBM-Papst FFU – SPVL8-010-EP; for an air heater with an EC fan – ECH-8-DM.

    Modbus RTU
    0-10 V / 0-20 mA / PWM
    OFF
    IP44 / IP54
    Suitable when you need:
    • control an EC fan from 230 VAC without a power supply unit;
    • integrate manual control into the BMS via Modbus RTU;
    • switch off the fan with the knob.
    Check before use:
    • the type and resistance of the controlled input;
    • the Modbus address plan and RS485 topology;
    • whether OFF, a dry contact or control of several fans is needed.
    Important reminder: SPV-8-010-PM is a control signal source, not a power controller – the motor current does not flow through it.
