Potentiometer for several EC fans with dry contact | Sentera Controls | SPV-8-010-MF
SPV-8-010-MF – Sentera Controls 230 VAC potentiometer with Modbus RTU, designed for stepless control of several EC motors with a single 0-10 VDC signal. Vmin (0–4 VDC) and Vmax (6–10 VDC) are set via Modbus RTU, and the dry contact (up to 4 A) switches on an external device remotely.
Key idea:
One potentiometer – a whole group of fans: the output allows a load down to RL ≥ 1 kΩ, so the control inputs of several EC fans can be connected in parallel and their speed changed simultaneously.Power supply
85–264 VAC, 50–60 HzAO1 output
0-10 VDC (RL ≥ 1 kΩ)Communication
Modbus RTU (RS485)OFF / contact
Dry contact 4 AOperating principle
The potentiometer is connected to the 85–264 VAC mains (L, N), the Modbus RTU line (A, /B) and the input of the controlled device (AO1, GND), the dry contact – into the external device circuit.
This is not a power controller – it only generates a control signal, and the speed is changed by the electronics of the EC motors themselves.
Turning the knob changes AO1 steplessly between Vmin (0–4 VDC) and Vmax (6–10 VDC); normal (min.→max.) or reverse logic is selected via Modbus RTU. Output load – RL ≥ 1 kΩ.
Engineer's note: the number of fans connected in parallel is not specified in the datasheet – it is determined by the input impedance. For n identical inputs with impedance Ri, the total impedance Ri / n must be ≥ 1 kΩ (e.g. inputs of 10 kΩ each – no more than 10 pcs).
Benefits SPV-8-010-MF?
Mains supply, Modbus RTU and manual control in one flush-mounted enclosure – no 24 V power supply unit or separate Modbus module needed. A whole group of fans is controlled with a single signal.Technical specifications

Motor power has no influence on the selection.When to choose another solution: without Modbus with 230 VAC supply – MTVN1 series; with a display and steps – RDCV9-AD; 24 VDC with Modbus – SDP-M010 series; EBM-Papst FFU – SPVL8-010-EP; for an air heater with an EC fan – ECH-8-DM.Pros
- Several EC fans with one signal
- Dry contact up to 4 A
- Operating temperature up to 65 °C
- Supply 85–264 VAC
- Modbus RTU
- Vmin / Vmax and direction via Modbus
- IP44 / IP54
Cons / limitations
- 0-10 VDC only – no 0-20 mA or PWM
- The number of fans is limited by the load RL ≥ 1 kΩ
- Limits can be changed only via Modbus RTU (a converter and software are required)
- The terminals carry mains voltage: installation by a qualified electrician only
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the supply to all connected devices disconnected.
- The terminals carry mains voltage – connect only with the supply disconnected.
- Observe the output load limits: RL ≥ 1 kΩ.
- Dry contact load – no more than 4 A.
- Connect the Modbus line with twisted-pair cable, in a line topology.
Quick selection guide
85–264 VACModbus RTU0-10 VDCdry contact 4 AIP44 / IP54Suitable when you need:- control an EC fan from 230 VAC without a power supply unit;
- integrate manual control into the BMS via Modbus RTU;
- control several EC fans with a single signal.
Check before use:- the type and resistance of the controlled input;
- the Modbus address plan and RS485 topology;
- whether OFF, a dry contact or control of several fans is needed.
Important reminder: SPV-8-010-MF is a control signal source, not a power controller – the motor current does not flow through it.FAQ
