  • Smart duct CO2 sensor-controller | CO2 0-2000ppm | T -30…70°C | 0-100%rH | 0-10VDC/0-20mA/PWM | Modbus RTU | 24VAC/VDC | IP54 | Sentera Controls | DCMFG-2R

DCMFG-2R – a Sentera Controls smart duct CO2 sensor-controller that measures CO2 concentration (0–2000 ppm), temperature (-30…+70 °C) and relative humidity (0–100 % rH) in the duct and has one control output (0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or PWM), which the integrated algorithm calculates from the highest of the T, rH and CO2 values. Supply – 24 VDC or 24 VAC ±10 %.

    Key idea:
This is demand-controlled ventilation “out of the box”: the sensor itself decides how much ventilation is needed and directly controls an EC fan, an AC speed controller or a damper actuator. Any of the three measured quantities can be disabled – e.g. to control by CO2 only.
    CO2 range
    0–2000 ppm
    Output
    1 × 0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA / PWM
    Power supply
    24 VDC or 24 VAC ±10 %
    Protection
    housing IP54, probe IP20

    Operating principle

The device is mounted on the duct and the probe is inserted into the airflow (at least 1 m/s recommended). Connect the 24 VDC or 24 VAC power supply (VIN, GND), the control output AO1 with its own GND, and Modbus RTU (A, /B); the terminals are push-in, for wires up to 1.5 mm².

A replaceable and calibratable CO2 element, together with a temperature and humidity sensor, measures duct air quality; a range is set for each quantity, and the output (0–100 %) follows the highest of the three calculated values. The output type is 0-10 VDC (≥ 50 kΩ), 0-20 mA (≤ 500 Ω) or 1 kHz PWM (3.3 or 12 VDC), so it directly controls an EC fan, an AC fan speed controller or a damper actuator; all parameters are available over Modbus RTU.

Result – ventilation according to extract air quality without a separate controller: in empty rooms ventilation runs at a minimum, and as people gather it increases, which reduces heating / cooling losses and fan energy consumption.

    Benefits DCMFG-2R?
CO2, temperature, humidity and a control algorithm in one device – demand-controlled ventilation without a separate controller or programming.

    Main functions

    • Integrated algorithm – the output follows the highest of T, rH and CO2 – direct control of an EC fan, an AC controller or a damper.
    • Parameters that can be disabled – can be controlled by CO2 only or any combination.
    • Modbus RTU – all measurements and settings are accessible remotely.
    • Firmware update – over the Modbus RTU network.
    • Replaceable CO2 element – the element can be replaced or calibrated without replacing the whole device.
    • Configuration – Configuration and monitoring – the free Sentera 3SModbus software (via the CNVT-USB-RS485 converter) or the Sensistant Modbus configurator.

    Where is it used?

    • Extract air ducts in ventilation units
    • Centralised ventilation of schools, offices and halls
    • Demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) with VAV dampers
    • Heat recovery unit automation
    • BMS systems with Modbus RTU
    • Exhaust ducts of meeting rooms and sports halls
    • Restaurant hall ventilation units

    On-demand operation

    For heat recovery unit manufacturers.
The duct CO2 sensor-controller directly controls the unit's EC fan with a single signal based on extract air quality.
For the designer of DCV systems with VAV dampers.
The output, based on the highest of CO2, T and rH, directly controls the zone damper actuator.
    For school centralized ventilation installers.
A single duct device replaces the room sensors in each classroom when a common zone is ventilated.

    Practical application

If in the extract duct of a school hall (≥ 1 m/s) the EC fan speed has to be increased as CO2 rises, then the DCMFG-2R is powered at 24 VAC or 24 VDC and its AO1 0-10 VDC signal proportionally increases the speed as CO2 approaches the set limit within the 0–2000 ppm range.

Application guide: how it is used in practice

The same DCMFG-2R adapts to different sites – only what is connected to its outputs changes:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Classroom, conference room AO1 0-10 VDC → EC fan control input The fan speeds up as CO2 rises; in an empty room – minimum T and rH can be disabled – control by CO2 only
Room with a VAV / air damper AO1 → damper actuator 0-10 VDC input The damper opens in proportion to air quality Actuator input resistance ≥ 50 kΩ
AC fan AO1 → analog input of an electronic or transformer controller AC fan speed according to CO2 Check the speed controller's input signal type
Building with BMS Modbus RTU → A, /B Measurements and settings centralised A separate address for each device

How to choose a CO2 transmitter

Installation / output / power supply Recommended model
    Room, 3 separate outputs T / rH / CO2, 24 VDC, 4 wires RSMFF-3 (multifunction transmitter, -F)
    Room, 3 separate outputs T / rH / CO2, 24 VDC or 24 VAC, 3 wires RSMFG-3 (multifunction transmitter, -G)
    Room, 1 control output based on T / rH / CO2, 24 VDC RCMFF-3 (smart sensor, -F)
Room, 1 control output, 24 VDC or 24 VAC RCMFG-3 (smart sensor, -G)
    Flush-mounted / surface-mounted, 1 output, powered from the 230 V mains FCMF8-R (85–264 VAC)
    Flush-mounted / surface-mounted, 1 output, 24 VDC or 24 VAC FCMFG-R (24 VAC/VDC)
    Duct, 1 control output based on T / rH / CO2, 24 VAC/VDC DCMFG-2R (smart duct sensor) ← this model
Duct, NDIR CO2 + T + rH, Modbus RTU only DSCDG0-4 (no analog outputs)
    Duct, NDIR CO2 + T + rH, 3 analog outputs + Modbus RTU DSCDG3-4 (3 outputs)
Rule: by installation location (wall, flush-mounting box, duct) and by what is needed: separate T / rH / CO2 signals for a controller or BMS (transmitter, 3 outputs), a single control signal directly to an EC fan or damper (smart sensor), or Modbus data only. Choose the supply according to the site's control circuit: -F – 24 VDC, 4-wire; -G – 24 VAC or 24 VDC, 3-wire; 8 – directly from the 230 V mains.
When to choose another solution: for separate signals or Modbus only – DSCDG3-4 / DSCDG0-4; in a room – RCMF-3 series; without CO2 – DCTH-2 series.

    Pros

    • CO2, temperature and humidity in one device
    • Modbus RTU, firmware updated over the network
    • Integrated control algorithm – no separate controller needed
    • Replaceable, calibrated CO2 element
    • IP54 housing

    Cons / limitations

    • One control output – for separate signals choose a transmitter
    • IP20 probe, an airflow of ≥ 1 m/s is required
    • It measures the duct air, not the air of a specific room – for an individual room choose the RCMF-3 series

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified electrician / automation specialist with the power disconnected.
    • Supply voltage – 24 VDC or 24 VAC ±10 %.
    • Device with a common ground: never connect its common ground to other devices powered by direct voltage (DC) – the connected devices may be damaged.
    • Resetting the Modbus communication parameters – with a jumper on PROG pins 1 and 2 for at least 5 s.
    • Install in a location not exposed to direct sunlight, with the probe in the airflow.
