Soil moisture and temperature sensor | Modbus RTU | 24VDC PoM | 7.5m cable | IP67 | Sentera Controls | SWCSM-075
The SWCSM-075 is a Sentera Controls soil water content sensor with a digital temperature sensor. It measures soil moisture and temperature and provides the results via Modbus RTU; it is powered with 24 VDC via Modbus, and a 7.5 m cable is included.
Key idea:
Irrigation based on actual soil moisture rather than a timer: the fast-responding sensor allows watering only when needed, and the data can be viewed remotely via SenteraWeb.Measures

IP67, 7.5 mOperating principle
The sensitive part of the sensor (103.35 × 18.75 mm) is buried in the soil, and the 7.5 m cable (extendable) is connected to the Sentera PoM network; in the manufacturer's example – via the ADPT-SWCSM adapter with a DRPS8 power module and a DIGWM internet gateway. Power supply – 24 VDC over Modbus (PoM), maximum current 10 mA.
The factory-calibrated sensor measures soil water content, and the integrated digital sensor measures temperature; all measurements and parameters are available over Modbus RTU.
Result – the controller, BMS or SenteraWeb receives the actual soil moisture and temperature, so irrigation can be controlled according to real demand. The IP67 enclosure is rated for operation in an environment of -30…+70 °C and 0–100 % rH.
Benefits SWCSM-075?
More precise irrigation and water savings – decisions are made based on the measured soil moisture.Technical specifications

Main functions
- Soil moisture measurement – fast response to changes in water quantity – for optimal irrigation.
- Temperature measurement – integrated digital sensor.
- Modbus RTU – measurements are available to a controller, BMS or SenteraWeb.
- Factory calibration – ready to use.
- IP67 – designed to be buried in soil.
- Extendable cable – the standard 7.5 m cable can be extended up to the panel.
- Low current demand – only 10 mA from the PoM line.
Where is it used?
- Greenhouses and horticulture
- Smart irrigation for gardens, lawns and plantings
- Soil moisture monitoring and control
- Environmental monitoring projects with SenteraWeb
- Lawn irrigation for sports fields and parks
- Nurseries and seedling growing
On-demand operation
For the horticultural farm.
Watering based on actual soil water content, not on a timer.For landscaping and lawn care contractors.
Remote humidity control via SenteraWeb with the DIGWM module.For the agro automation integrator.
Humidity and temperature over Modbus RTU without analog converters.Practical application
If irrigation in a greenhouse is currently switched on by a timer, then once the SWCSM-075 is buried in the root zone and connected to SenteraWeb via the ADPT-SWCSM, DRPS8 and DIGWM, soil moisture and temperature are visible remotely, and the 7.5 m cable is usually enough to bring the signal to the panel.Application guide: how it is used in practice
The SWCSM-075 always measures soil – the difference is where the data goes:
Site What is connected Result Installer's note Greenhouse Sensor → ADPT-SWCSM → PoM line → DIGWM Humidity and temperature visible in SenteraWeb A unique Modbus address for each sensor Humidification controller with Modbus Sensor → Modbus RTU line The controller switches on irrigation according to moisture Check the controller's register compatibility Multiple zones Multiple sensors on one PoM line Each zone is irrigated according to its own needs Add up the current for the power supply How to choose a soil sensor
Measured quantities / cable Recommended model Soil water content + temperature, 7.5 m cable, Modbus RTU SWCSM-075 (IP67) ← this model Rule: the sensor is connected to the Sentera PoM Modbus network (in the manufacturer's diagram – via the ADPT-SWCSM adapter); remote monitoring requires an internet gateway (e.g. DIGWM) and 24 VDC PoM power.When to choose another solution: for room air humidity and temperature – Sentera humidity and temperature sensors.Pros
- Humidity and temperature in one
- Modbus RTU
- Factory calibrated
- IP67
- 7.5 m cable, extendable
- Low current requirement (10 mA)
Cons / limitations
- No analog output – Modbus RTU only
- Measuring ranges and accuracy are not stated in the datasheet
- PoM power and Modbus infrastructure are required
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection are to be carried out by a qualified electrician or automation specialist with the power disconnected.
- Power supply – only 24 VDC via Modbus (PoM).
- Route the cable so that it is not damaged when working the soil.
Quick selection guide
Soil moistureTemperatureModbus RTU24 VDC PoMIP677.5 mSuitable when you need:- to measure soil moisture and temperature;
- to control humidification according to actual demand;
- to monitor data via SenteraWeb.
Check before use:- whether the system has 24 VDC PoM power and a Modbus controller or an internet gateway;
- the cable length to the connection point;
- whether an ADPT-SWCSM adapter is required.
Important reminder: The SWCSM-075 has no analog output – measurements are available only via Modbus RTU.FAQ
