    Submersible pump control and protection relay TENSE TDK-24YU | 5–250 A | 3-phase | star-delta | U/I protection | DIN

TENSE TDK-24YU is a three-phase submersible and borehole pump control and protection relay designed for motor starting through a star-delta contactor circuit and for protection against abnormal voltage, current, phase and water-level conditions.

    TDK-24YU

The controller simultaneously monitors three phase-to-phase voltages, motor currents via external current transformers, phase sequence, well/borehole electrodes and the tank float. If a fault occurs, it disables contactor control and indicates the fault on the LEDs/displays.

    Group Purpose Engineering note
    L1 / L2 / L3 Three-phase voltage measurement The controller displays L1–L2, L2–L3 and L3–L1 voltages.
    k1–I1 / k2–I2 / k3–I3 External current-transformer inputs A separate CT is used for each phase; measuring range up to 250 A.
M / Y / Δ Main, star and delta contactor control TDK-24YU does not switch motor power directly – it controls external contactor coils.
ELECT. Well / borehole level electrodes Used for dry-run protection and well refill control.
FLOAT Tank float input Allows the pump to stop when the tank is full.
Start / Stop / Com External Start/Stop commands Used to start and stop the pump.
Start/Stop Memory Power-up state memory selection Defines whether the controller powers up in Start or Stop state.

    How does TDK-24YU operate?

    1. After power-up, the controller counts the configured first opening delay.
    2. It checks phase sequence, phase-to-phase voltages, well water level, tank float and Start/Stop state.
    3. If all conditions are valid, the main contactor is enabled and the star-delta starting sequence begins.
    4. Motor currents are measured through three external current transformers.
    5. During operation it continuously checks high/low voltage, high/low current, voltage/current asymmetry, phase sequence and water level.
    6. When a fault is detected, contactor control is disabled, the OUT LED turns off and the corresponding fault indication identifies the cause.

    Advantages

    • One controller combines starting, protection and water-level control.
    • 5–250 A range supports substantially larger three-phase pump motors through current transformers.
    • Star-delta outputs remove the need for a separate star-delta timing relay in many panels.
    • Three-phase U and I indication improves on-site diagnostics.
    • High/low voltage and current protections are adjustable.
    • Electrode and float inputs can control both borehole water level and tank filling.
    • Start/Stop and memory inputs allow integration into external automation.
    • DIN mounting is suitable for professional control panels.

    Disadvantages / limitations

    • This is not a power starter. External main, star and delta contactors are required.
    • Current is measured through external current transformers. Verify package contents and CT direction before installation.
    • Designed for a three-phase ~380/400 V network; other systems require a different solution.
    • Current-setting step is 5 A, so adjustment is relatively coarse for small motors.
    • 50% current-asymmetry and 22% voltage-asymmetry thresholds are fixed.
    • Some faults require manual Reset, which must be considered in unattended installations.
    • No RS485 / Modbus / Ethernet / Wi‑Fi communication.
    • Correct contactor interlocking and motor-protection design are required; it is not a plug-and-play domestic controller.

    Suitable for

    • three-phase borehole and submersible pump control panels
    • pump motors requiring star-delta starting
    • water supply, irrigation and tank-filling systems
    • installations requiring dry-run, U/I and phase protection
    • professional electricians, automation engineers and panel builders

    Not suitable for

    • single-phase pumps
    • direct switching of motor power without contactors
    • systems requiring Modbus / RS485 or remote telemetry
    • installations where CTs and level electrodes cannot be correctly installed
    • users looking for a simple plug-in pump controller

Practical example – borehole pump control panel

A three-phase borehole pump is controlled through main, star and delta contactors. TDK-24YU monitors all three phase voltages, motor currents via CTs, the borehole water level and the tank float. During starting, the motor first runs in star for the configured time and, after the fixed 20 ms transition interval, delta is enabled. If current, voltage, phase sequence or water level falls outside the permitted conditions, the controller disables contactor control.

    Installation and commissioning sequence

    1. Verify motor rated voltage/current and suitability for star-delta starting.
    2. Install the controller and three current transformers according to the TENSE diagram.
    3. Connect L1/L2/L3 measurement inputs and verify phase sequence.
    4. Connect main, star and delta contactors with electrical/mechanical interlocking.
    5. Connect well electrodes, tank float and Start/Stop inputs if used.
    6. Set high/low voltage and current limits according to motor and network data.
    7. Set star time, first opening delay and t waiting time.
    8. Perform the first start under supervision while measuring actual phase currents and checking contactor sequence.
    9. Test protection functions before handing the system over for normal operation.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can TDK-24YU directly switch a 250 A motor?

No. 5–250 A is the motor-current measurement/control range via current transformers. Motor power is switched by external contactors.

    Are current transformers required?

Yes. Each phase current is measured through an external CT. Verify the contents of the specific package.

    Can well electrodes be connected?

Yes. The controller has electrode inputs and an adjustable electrode conductivity/sensitivity setting.

Can a tank float be used?

Yes. The FLOAT input is intended for tank-full control.

    Does it provide star-delta control?

Yes. It controls main, star and delta contactors; star time is adjustable from 1–30 s.

    Can low-current protection reset automatically?

Yes. Auto-reset time is adjustable from 0–180 min; the same t setting is also used for upper-electrode waiting.

Does the controller display all three phases?

Yes. Three 3-digit displays show phase-to-phase voltages or phase currents.

    Installer’s note

TDK-24YU must be treated as a pump control and protection controller, not as a motor power relay. Contactors, conductors, short-circuit protection, motor protection and CT selection must be designed for the actual motor and applicable electrical requirements.

TENSE TDK-24YU three-phase submersible pump control relay is designed for 5–250 A pump-motor monitoring via current transformers, star-delta contactor control, high/low voltage and current protection, phase-sequence and U/I asymmetry protection, and dry-run protection. DIN-mounted solution for boreholes, tanks and professional pump-control panels.
