WAGO 2273-205 – a compact five-conductor push-wire connector (PUSH WIRE®), designed to join solid copper wires, 0.5–2.5 mm², without tools. The stripped wire end is simply pushed into the opening and a spring locks it in place permanently. The transparent housing lets you check that the wire has been pushed in fully, and the white colour marks the 2273 series, intended for solid conductors only.
Key idea:
Junction boxes and under-socket connections most often join solid 1.5–2.5 mm² wires. They don't need a lever-operated terminal – the 2273 series is half the size, cheaper, and connects in a second: strip 11 mm of insulation, push in, done. Five ports let you bring together the phase from the supply and four outgoing circuits at a single point.Number of conductors

Inside the connector is a stainless-steel spring and a tin-plated copper current bar. Once the solid wire is pushed in, the edge of the spring bites into it at an angle – the harder you try to pull the wire out, the harder the spring presses it against the bar. The contact force does not depend on the installer – it is always exactly what the manufacturer designed.
The wire can only be removed by twisting and pulling at the same time – this prevents accidental disconnection. The transparent housing lets you visually check that the wire has been pushed in fully, and the required 11 mm strip length is marked on the housing. There is a test port on the side for a measuring probe.
What makes the WAGO 2273-205 worthwhile?
It's the fastest and most compact way to join five solid wires in a junction box. Unlike twisted or screw connections, the spring contact does not loosen with thermal cycling or vibration, so the connection stays reliable for decades without maintenance. The connector complies with IEC 60998 and is recognised as a maintenance-free connection.Technical specifications

- Tool-free connection – the wire is pushed in, the spring locks automatically.
- 5 conductors – one incoming and four outgoing in a single connector.
- Constant contact – the spring compensates for wire "creep" and thermal cycling.
- Transparent housing – visual check that the wire is pushed in fully.
- Test port – voltage can be measured without removing the wires.
- Compact – 12.7 mm wide, fits into the smallest junction boxes.
Where is it used?
- Junction boxes under plaster and above ceilings
- Socket and switch boxes – distribution of phase and neutral
- Connecting light fittings to ceiling wiring
- Distribution boards – grouping neutral and PE conductors
- Recessed LED luminaire circuits
- Connection points for household appliances (cookers, water heaters)
- Renovation – replacing old twist-on connectors
- Electrical installations in timber-frame houses
Use by need
For the domestic user.
Replacing a light fitting or socket – the 2273-205 lets you join wires without screws or insulating tape. Important: solid (rigid) conductors only.For businesses and installers.
Wiring junction boxes with the 2273 series is several times faster than with twist-on connectors, and the connection is recognised as maintenance-free – the boxes can be covered.For electricians / engineers.
When selecting, check that the wire is solid Cu, 0.5–2.5 mm², total current ≤24 A, and the circuit is protected by a breaker ≤B/C 20 A. For flexible (stranded) wires, use the 221 series with levers, or the 2273 only with a crimped ferrule, if permitted by the manufacturer.Practical example
A junction box above the ceiling receives the phase from the panel, and it needs to feed three light fittings and a switch. The phase wire and four outgoing 1.5 mm² solid wires are stripped 11 mm and pushed into a 2273-205 – one terminal for phase, another for neutral, a third for PE. The whole box is wired in a minute, without tools, and the transparent housing shows that all the wires are pushed in fully.
Pros
- Speed – connection in a second, no tools needed.
- Reliability – WAGO spring technology, maintenance-free.
- Small size – half the size of the 221 series, fits into narrow boxes.
- Visual check – transparent housing.
- Test port – measurement without disconnecting.
- Price – the most affordable WAGO solution for solid wires.
Cons / limitations
- Solid conductors only – a flexible stranded wire without a ferrule will not lock properly.
- Removing a wire requires twisting and pulling – not as convenient as a lever.
- Max. 2.5 mm² – not suitable for service entries or 4–6 mm² cooker wires.
- 24 A limit – not suitable for circuits protected by a breaker larger than 20 A.
- Limited reuse – contact weakens after several insertions/removals.
Safety and installation notes
- Install only after switching off the voltage.
- Strip exactly 11 mm of insulation – too short doesn't ensure contact, too long leaves bare conductor exposed.
- Push the wire in fully and check through the transparent housing.
- Use solid copper conductors only; aluminium requires special terminals or contact paste (WAGO Alu-Plus).
- Do not exceed 24 A and 2.5 mm² – select according to the circuit breaker.
- Under plaster, the connection must only be enclosed inside a junction box – the connector is not designed to be plastered over directly.

5Cross-section
0.5–2.5 mm² solidRated current
24 ARated voltage
450 VSuitable when you need:- to join 2–5 solid wires, 0.5–2.5 mm², in a junction box;
- a fast connection without tools;
- a compact connector for a narrow socket box.
Check before use:- whether the wires are solid (rigid), not stranded;
- whether the cross-section is 0.5–2.5 mm²;
- whether the circuit current is ≤24 A;
- whether you need 5 ports (smaller connection points use the 2273-202/203/204).
Important reminder:
The connector joins conductors but does not protect the circuit. Overload and short-circuit protection is provided by a circuit breaker in the panel.FAQ
Does it suit a flexible (stranded) wire?
No, the 2273 series is designed for solid conductors only. For flexible wires, choose WAGO 221 with levers.How much insulation should be stripped?
11 mm – the length is marked on the connector housing.Can the wire be removed?
Yes – by twisting the wire back and forth while pulling. After several removals, it's recommended to replace the connector.Does it suit aluminium wires?
Only when using WAGO Alu-Plus contact paste; without it – no.Can it be used for a 4 mm² cooker wire?
No, the maximum cross-section is 2.5 mm². For cookers, use the 221-6xx series, up to 6 mm².What's the difference from the 2273-202/203/204/208?
Only the number of ports: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 8 conductors. The technical parameters are the same.Terminal | electrical wire connector
