  • Three-phase electronic fan speed controller | Modbus RTU | TK | 6A | 400VAC | Sentera Controls | TVSS5-60CDT

TVSS5-60CDT – Sentera Controls three-phase electronic fan speed controller for 3×400 VAC motors up to 6 A. Controlled by a 0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA signal or Modbus RTU, it has a TK input and phase loss monitoring and is mounted on a DIN rail.

    Key idea:
Smooth three-phase speed control without a frequency inverter: a simpler and more affordable solution for voltage-controllable three-phase fans when automation and BMS integration are required.
    What it is for TVSS5-60CDT:
This model is designed for more powerful fans (up to 6 A) – roof or duct fans in warehouses, workshops, halls or a group of fans.
    Max. motor current
    6 A
    Control
    0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA / Modbus RTU
    Power supply
    3×400 VAC ±10 %, 50 Hz
    Installation
    DIN rail, IP20

    Operating principle

The controller is mounted on a DIN rail in a control panel. Connect the three-phase power supply (R, S, T, N, PE), the motor (U, V, W), the control signal, the motor thermal contacts (TK) and, if required, the Modbus RTU line.

The output voltage is varied within 80–415 VAC between Vmin (80–250 VAC) and Vmax (260–415 VAC), which are set with trimmers or via Modbus. A 0-10 VDC, 10-0 VDC or 0-20 mA signal and the switch-off level (0.1–6 VDC) are selectable.

The red LED signals phase loss or motor overheating, the green LED signals operation; the fan can be switched on / off with an external contact (SW) or via Modbus.

Engineer's note: with an AC induction motor, reducing the voltage increases rotor losses, so the savings are lower than with an EC fan or a frequency inverter; when completely silent operation at low speed is essential, choose a transformer controller with a sinusoidal output voltage.

    Benefits TVSS5-60CDT?
Smooth three-phase control, analogue and Modbus inputs, TK protection and phase monitoring – in one DIN module.

    Main functions

    • Smooth three-phase control – for voltage-controllable 3×400 V fans.
    • 0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA – directly from a sensor or controller.
    • Modbus RTU – control and monitoring from the BMS.
    • TK protection and phase monitoring – overheating or phase loss is indicated by a red LED.
    • Switch-off level – at a low signal the motor stops.
    • Remote switch-on – With the SW contact or via Modbus.
    • SenteraWeb – via the Sentera internet module, the controller can be connected to the SenteraWeb cloud – remote control, monitoring and alerts via the internet.

    Where is it used?

Application guide: how it is used in practice

    Typical TVSS5-60CDT applications:

Site What is connected Result Installer's note
Warehouse extraction Temperature sensor 0-10 VDC → analogue input Ventilation increases as the temperature rises Set Vmin so that the motor starts
Building with BMS Modbus RTU → A, /B Speed and status are controlled centrally Separate Modbus addresses
Motor with thermal contacts TK → TK terminals Overheating is indicated by a red LED TK connection is recommended
Manual control 10 kΩ potentiometer → VCC (+12 V / 1 mA) Speed is set manually Route the signal cable separately

How to select the controller current

Rated current of the motor(s) Recommended model
    up to 3 A TVSS5-30CDT (3 A)
    3–6 A TVSS5-60CDT (6 A) ← this model
Rule: controller max. current ≥ motor rated current (see the motor nameplate). The starting current is already accounted for by the manufacturer; no additional margin is needed. When connecting several fans – motors of the same type – add up their rated currents.
When to choose another solution: the motor is not voltage-controllable or high efficiency is required – a frequency inverter; for simple stepped control – a three-phase transformer controller (STR-4 / STRS4 series); for a single-phase motor – EVS-1 / MVS-1 series.

    Pros

    • Smooth three-phase control
    • 0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA and Modbus RTU
    • TK and phase monitoring
    • DIN module with protective cover
    • Adjustable limits and switch-off level

    Cons / limitations

    • Current up to 6 A
    • Only for voltage-controllable three-phase motors
    • IP20 – in control panel only
    • Lower efficiency than with a frequency inverter

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • Check that the three-phase motor is suitable for voltage control (manufacturer's confirmation).
    • Always connect PE and N.
    • In a Modbus network with AC power supply, do not connect the GND terminal to other devices or to the CNVT-USB-RS485 converter – this may damage the communication electronics.
