Transformer fan motor speed controller with remote control | 1.5A | 230VAC | surface-mounted | IP54 | Sentera Controls | RTR-1-15L22
RTR-1-15L22 – Sentera Controls transformer fan speed controller with remote control for single-phase AC motors up to 1.5 A. The controller itself is installed in a technical area, and the speed is switched by an external 5-position switch (e.g. Sentera SMT-1-30-4C) or a thermostat. Sinusoidal output voltage: 0-(80)-110-140-170-190-230 VAC.
Key idea:
The heavy transformer goes into a plant room or above the ceiling, while only a compact switch is installed in the room. This way the user controls ventilation from a convenient location, and the motor runs quietly. RTR-1-15L22 is intended for smaller duct or axial fans (up to 1.5 A).What it is for RTR-1-15L22:
This model is designed for low-power fans (up to 1.5 A) – one or two duct or axial fans in an office, bathroom, kitchen or small room.Max. motor current

The 230 VAC supply (L, N, PE), the motor to the regulated output (U, N) and an external switch are connected: the common contact – to terminal P, the positions – to terminals 1–5. The transformer taps are brought out directly to the terminal strip. The unregulated L1 output (230 VAC, 2 A) is intended for a damper or auxiliary device.
Inside is an autotransformer with several output taps. Each step supplies the motor with a different preset voltage: 0-(80)-110-140-170-190-230 VAC. Control is stepped, not stepless – speed changes in fixed increments. In external switch positions 1–5 the output is 110, 140, 170, 190 and 230 VAC; in position 0 the motor and L1 are switched off. The 80 V tap is present but not connected; other voltages can be selected by changing the wiring.
A thermostat can be used instead of the switch – the fan is then switched according to temperature. The controller has no knob of its own: the speed is always selected by an external device.
The output voltage is sinusoidal because it is obtained by a transformer rather than by electronically “chopping” the sine wave. Therefore the motor runs quietly, heats up less and does not hum – the transformer speed controller is also suitable for AC motors that audibly hum at low speed with an electronic (triac) controller. Engineer's note: the speed of an AC asynchronous motor is reduced by increasing slip, so less energy is saved than with an EC fan or frequency inverter. The greatest advantage of transformer control is quiet and reliable motor operation at all steps.
Benefits RTR-1-15L22?
The power section is separated from the control point: only a compact switch remains in the room, while the transformer is installed where there is space for it.Technical specifications

Main functions
- Remote speed switching – the external 5-position switch can be in the room, while the controller is in a technical area.
- Thermostat control – a thermostat instead of the switch, switching the fan according to temperature.
- Sinusoidal output voltage – quiet motor operation at all steps.
- Unregulated L1 output (2 A) – for a damper actuator or other device.
- Step voltages can be changed – another tap can be selected by changing the wiring.
Where is it used?
- Offices, classrooms, halls – when the switch must be in the room
- Restaurants, cafés, retail premises
- Ventilation with the controller in a plant room or above a suspended ceiling
- Rooms controlled according to temperature (by thermostat)
- Farm and production buildings

When connecting several fans – motors of the same type – add up their rated currents.When to choose another solution: a knob on the controller itself needed – STR-1; control by a 0-10 VDC signal – STVS1; Modbus RTU – RTVS8; TK and automatic restart – STRA1; autotransformer only for a control panel – ATR-1; stepless electronic control – EVS-1; for a three-phase motor – STR-4.Pros
- Sinusoidal output voltage – quiet motor operation
- Remote speed switching with an external switch
- Thermostat control possible
- Unregulated L1 output (2 A)
- IP54 enclosure
Cons / limitations
- Step control, not stepless
- Has no knob of its own – an external switch or thermostat is required
- Higher weight than electronic controllers (2.00 kg net)
- No TK protection, 0-10 VDC input or Modbus
- Single-phase AC motors only; not suitable for EC fans
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
- Always connect the protective earth (PE).
- The rated current of the motor (or the total of several motors) must not exceed 1.5 A; replace the fuse only with one of the same type and rating.
- The controller is intended only for single-phase, voltage-controllable AC motors; it is not suitable for EC fans or three-phase motors.
- The external switch circuit carries mains voltage – use a switch and cable rated for 230 VAC.
- For indoor use only (-20…+35 °C).
Quick selection guide
1.5 A230 VACRemote switchSinusoidal voltageIP54Suitable when you need:- quiet stepped AC fan control up to 1.5 A;
- where the switch has to be in the room and the controller in a technical area;
- thermostat control.
Check before use:- the motor rated current;
- an external switch (e.g. SMT-1-30-4C) or thermostat and the cable to it;
