Code: 28774Universal stepped duct connector (code 28774) – a white plastic adapter designed to join round ducts and ventilation units of different diameters. One 120 mm long piece has six steps – D160, 150, 125, 120, 100 and 80 mm – so the steps you don't need are simply cut away, leaving a connector sized exactly to the diameter required on site.

Key idea:
In ventilation systems things rarely match up – a heat recovery unit outlet is 160 mm, the duct is 125 mm, and the cooker hood outlet is 100 mm. Instead of stocking three different reducers, one universal connector is enough: cut it, fit it, seal it. That saves the installer time and saves storage space.Diameters

The connector is shaped as a stepped cone: each step matches a standard duct diameter. The installer selects the two steps needed (e.g. 125 and 100 mm), cuts away the unneeded narrower section, and fits the connector directly into the ducts from both sides. The joint is made without extra couplings – the connector fits inside the duct or slides over the unit's spigot.
Because the connector is "central" (axial), both ducts stay in line – the airflow does not change direction and resistance remains minimal. The joints are sealed with aluminium tape or sealing mastic to prevent air leakage.
What makes the universal connector useful?
It replaces up to five different reducers (160→150, 150→125, 125→120, 120→100, 100→80) with a single piece. For the installer this means fewer items to carry in the van, and for the end user, the ability to quickly connect a cooker hood, fan or heat recovery unit to an existing duct without waiting to order the exact fitting.Technical specifications

- 6 diameters in one – from 80 to 160 mm, covering all common domestic sizes.
- Cut to size – unneeded steps are removed with an ordinary knife or saw.
- Axial connection – ducts stay in line, minimal airflow resistance.
- No couplings needed – connects directly to ducts and unit spigots.
- Light and durable – plastic does not corrode, suited to damp rooms.
- White colour – blends in behind white ducts and ceiling finishes.
Where is it used?
- Connecting a kitchen cooker hood to a 100–150 mm duct
- Connecting bathroom and WC fans to an existing duct run
- Transitions at heat recovery unit and ventilation equipment spigots
- Joining flexible aluminium ducting to rigid PVC
- Fitting in-line duct fans into a system of a different diameter
- Renovation – connecting new equipment to old ducting
- Tumble dryer exhaust ducts
- Local extract ventilation in warehouses and workshops
Use by need
For the domestic user.
Replacing a cooker hood and the new outlet doesn't match the duct? This connector solves it in a few minutes – cut, fit, wrap with tape.For businesses and installers.
One universal piece in the van replaces several different reducers – less stock to carry, fewer trips back to the warehouse.For engineers / designers.
The transition is short (120 mm) and abrupt, so it suits low airflows and small pressure differences. For high-performance systems with strict aerodynamic requirements, use gradual (conical) transitions.Practical example
A 100 mm fan is fitted in a bathroom, while a 125 mm duct runs out through the roof. The 80 mm step is cut off the universal connector; the 100 mm end is fitted onto the fan spigot, and the 125 mm end into the duct. The joints are wrapped with aluminium tape. The system runs without extra transitions, and the connector stays hidden above the ceiling.
Pros
- Versatility – one piece for 6 diameters.
- Fast fitting – no tools needed except a knife for cutting.
- Economical solution – cheaper than separate reducers for every size.
- Durability – plastic does not corrode in damp rooms.
- Compact – 120 mm length fits between ceiling and slab.
- Compatibility – works with PVC, sheet-metal and flexible ducts.
Cons / limitations
- An abrupt change in diameter increases resistance – not suited to high-performance systems.
- Once a step is cut off, the connector cannot return to its original shape.
- Additional sealing with tape or mastic is required.
- Plastic – not suitable for high-temperature (>60 °C) flue gas or chimney ducts.
- The 150/160 mm step has a shallow insertion depth, so good clamping is essential.
Safety and installation notes
- Cut the step straight, along its edge – an uneven cut reduces the seal quality.
- Seal joints with aluminium tape or ventilation mastic.
- Do not use as part of a chimney or stove flue – for ventilation air only.
- Additionally secure flexible ducts with a clamp or tie.
- Before fitting, check the duct interior is free of obstructions and that the connector seats fully up to the step.
- Install with a fall so condensate does not run back into the unit.

whiteSuitable when you need:- to join ducts of different diameters within the 80–160 mm range;
- to connect a cooker hood, fan or heat recovery unit to an existing duct;
- a universal part for an installer's stock.
Check before use:- whether both required diameters fall between 80 and 160 mm;
- whether the ducts are round (rectangular ducts need a different adapter);
- whether the air temperature stays below 60 °C;
- whether you have sealing tape.
Important reminder:
This connector is intended for ventilation air ducts only. For hot flue gas, chimney and fireplace exhaust ducts, use metal, temperature-resistant connectors.FAQ
How do I select the diameter I need?
Cut off the steps smaller than the narrowest diameter required. The remaining ends will match the ducts needed.Does it fit a flexible aluminium duct?
Yes – the connector is inserted into the flexible duct and secured with a clamp and tape.Can it be used for a cooker hood?
Yes, for cooker hood extract air. Not for a chimney flue.Do I need glue or sealant?
Aluminium tape or ventilation mastic is recommended; glue is not necessary.Can 160 mm be joined to 80 mm?
Technically yes, but such a transition sharply reduces airflow – suitable only for low-performance systems.Is it suitable outdoors?
Yes, the plastic is resistant to moisture and UV, but the joint must be additionally sealed when used outdoors.Universal duct connector | adapter
