Hikvision DS-TMG420-H – a high-speed electromechanical road barrier (automatic boom barrier) designed to control vehicle entry and exit in car parks, residential complexes, business centres, industrial sites and other controlled areas. The unit features a brushless DC motor, electronic control and a fast boom movement mechanism. With a 3 m straight octagonal boom, the opening and closing time is approximately 1.8 s, while with a 4 m boom it is approximately 2.5 s. The robust 1.5 mm SGCC steel housing provides IP54 protection against dust and water splashes and IK09 impact resistance. The dark grey housing with orange-red front door is suitable for outdoor installations. Two remote controls are included, while the barrier boom is selected and ordered separately.

    Key point:
In car parks and heavily used entrances, every second of barrier operation matters. Slow boom lifting can create vehicle queues, while poorly controlled closing may pose a risk to vehicles and people. Hikvision DS-TMG420-H combines rapid boom movement, brushless motor technology, an electronic control system and the ability to connect additional vehicle detection and safety devices. The barrier can be configured for 3 or 4 m passage solutions, supports remote control and can be integrated into parking and access control systems.

⚡ Spark: Phase, what makes this Hikvision road barrier special? Can it really raise the boom in less than two seconds?

⚙ Phase: Yes. With a 3 m octagonal boom, the lifting time is approximately 1.8 seconds. With a 4 m boom it is approximately 2.5 seconds. The speed depends on the type and length of the installed boom. The barrier uses a brushless DC motor, supports the connection of obstacle detection systems and provides remote control. Another important feature is that a vehicle detection radar, induction loop detector or photocells can be connected so that barrier operation does not rely on a timer alone.

    Operating principle

Hikvision DS-TMG420-H operates using an electromechanical drive principle. Inside the barrier is a brushless direct-current motor (Brushless DC Motor), which transmits movement to the road barrier boom through a gearbox and mechanical linkage system. The brushless motor design provides electronically controlled rotation and reduces wear associated with mechanical brushes.

The barrier is powered from a 230 V AC mains supply. The integrated electronic control system processes opening, closing, stop and connected safety-device commands and controls boom movement between horizontal and vertical positions.

With a 3 m straight octagonal boom, raising and lowering takes approximately 1.8 seconds. With a 4 m boom, raising and lowering takes approximately 2.5 seconds. A shorter boom allows a faster movement cycle, while a longer boom is used for wider vehicle passage areas.

The brushless motor is electronically controlled, allowing smooth boom movement. The control system incorporates obstacle-detection response and opening-command priority to improve control of boom movement.

The standard boom mounting direction is right-hand, but the direction of the basic mechanism can be changed. This allows the barrier to be adapted to different entrances where the drive housing needs to be installed on either the left or right side of the passage.

The barrier has a programmable closing-delay function. The default delay is 10 seconds. This function allows the boom to remain raised for a specified time before the closing command is executed. The settings can be adjusted to suit the specific traffic-control scheme.

For additional vehicle detection, a common safety-device interface is provided for infrared photocells, vehicle detectors or radar sensors. Such devices allow the control system to receive information about the presence of a vehicle in the passage area.

The RS-485 communication interface allows the barrier to be integrated into a compatible external automation or parking management system. Control commands can also be transmitted through dedicated opening, closing and stop inputs.

The unit includes electronic event logging and fault diagnostics. Fault codes help service personnel identify system malfunctions and perform diagnostics more quickly.

If the main electrical power supply fails, the boom can be opened using the manual mechanism. An optional automatic boom-raising system for power failures can also be installed.

Why is this high-speed road barrier useful?
Hikvision DS-TMG420-H is designed for fast and convenient vehicle-flow management. The brushless motor, 1.8–2.5 second boom movement time, remote control, RS-485 interface and safety-sensor connection options make it possible to create an automated entrance-control system. The robust IP54 and IK09 housing is suitable for outdoor use, while the selectable boom length allows the system to be adapted to the specific passage width.

    Practical application

A Hikvision DS-TMG420-H road barrier with an additionally selected 3 m octagonal boom is installed at the car park of an apartment residential complex. The barrier is connected to a 230 V AC mains supply, while a vehicle-detection radar and selected resident access-control equipment are connected to the control system. When a vehicle approaches, the authorisation system sends an opening command. The boom rises in approximately 1.8 seconds, so the vehicle does not have to wait long. While the vehicle passes through the barrier, the safety sensor monitors the passage area and prevents unsafe closing. After the vehicle leaves the controlled zone and the closing conditions are met, the boom is lowered. If required by the administration, the barrier can also be operated using the supplied remote controls.

    • Emergency opening. If power fails, the manual mechanism should only be used after ensuring that boom movement will not create a hazard.
    • Periodic maintenance. Check the mechanism, boom mounting, electrical contacts, motor operation and safety sensors.
    • Pedestrian safety. Pedestrian traffic must not be routed through the hazardous boom movement zone.
    ⚡ Phase tip:
For a high-speed road barrier, boom raising time is not the only important factor. If vehicle traffic at the entrance is intensive, a suitable vehicle-detection system should be provided rather than relying solely on the automatic 10-second closing timer. A vehicle may stop or move more slowly, so radar, an induction-loop detector or photocells should ensure safe boom control. Also select the boom according to the actual passage width: a 3 m boom operates faster, but a wider entrance may require the 4 m version. Remember that both boom options are ordered separately.
