  • Cable gland with locknut and gasket | PG48 | for cable Ø37–44 mm | grey | IP68 | 4772124000926

    The PG48 cable gland is designed for sealed entry of a round Ø37–44 mm cable into an electrical distribution board, junction or connection box. A locknut and gasket are included, so the opening is sealed in two ways: around the cable and between the gland and the enclosure wall.

    Key point:
    The cable entry is the weakest point of any enclosure: moisture, dust and condensation get in through an unsealed opening, and over time the cable starts to move and rub against the edge of the hole. A gland chosen to match the cable diameter and tightened correctly keeps the enclosure's IP rating and holds the cable mechanically.

    How it works

    The gland is inserted into a drilled hole in the enclosure wall. The gasket goes on the outside under the gland's flange, and the locknut is screwed on from the inside. This presses the gland firmly against the wall and seals the opening.

    The cable is pushed through the gland and the dome cap is tightened. The internal sealing insert wraps evenly around the cable sheath, fills the gap and holds the cable so that it does not move in the opening.

    The result: a tight, neat cable entry that keeps the enclosure's protection rating and stops moisture from getting into the board.

    Why choose the PG48 gland?
    It covers the Ø37–44 mm range. It is intended for heavier power and feeder cables supplying distribution boards and higher-power equipment. Always check the actual outer diameter of the cable against the cable manufacturer's data.

    Main functions

    • Seals the cable entry – moisture and dust stay out of the board or box.
    • Seals the opening itself – the gasket between the gland and the wall blocks water around the thread.
    • Holds the cable – the tightened insert stops the cable moving and rubbing against the edge of the hole.
    • Keeps the enclosure's IP rating – the cable entry does not reduce the sealing of a waterproof box.
    • Quick installation – no adhesive or sealant needed, just drill the hole and tighten.
    • Can be dismantled – when replacing or reconnecting a cable, the gland can be loosened and tightened again.

    Where is it used?

    • Plastic and metal distribution boards
    • Waterproof outdoor junction and distribution boxes
    • Automation and control panels
    • Feeder and power cable entries into distribution boards
    • Power boxes for outdoor lighting and floodlights
    • Agricultural, warehouse and production premises with dust or moisture
    • AC-side junction boxes of solar power plants

    Use by need

    For the electrician.
    A neat cable entry that installs quickly, protects the board from moisture and needs no sealant.
    For the panel builder.
    Uniform, standardised entries for all cables of the same diameter. This simplifies kitting and costing.
    For the homestead or farm owner.
    The outdoor box or barn board stays dry, reducing the risk of corrosion and RCD nuisance tripping.

    Practical use

    If you need to bring a power cable with an outer diameter of about 41 mm into a distribution board, the PG48 gland is the right choice. Drill the hole to match the thread diameter, insert the gland with the gasket, screw on the locknut from the inside, pass the cable through and tighten the dome cap. The entry is sealed and the cable stays in place.

    Advantages

    • IP68 sealing when correctly installed
    • Locknut and gasket already included
    • Clamping range 37–44 mm
    • Cable is held mechanically
    • Installed without adhesive or sealant
    • Grey colour matches most enclosures

    Disadvantages / limitations

    • PG thread is not interchangeable with metric (M) thread
    • Outside the 37–44 mm range sealing is not ensured – for a thinner cable choose PG42 (32–38 mm, code 4772124000919), for a thicker one PG63 (42–50 mm, code 4772124000933)
    • Not suitable for flat cables or several cables through one opening
    • Plastic: not suitable for EMC shielding or explosive (ATEX) zones

    Safety and installation notes

    • Per DIN 40430 the PG48 thread outer diameter is 59.3 mm. Still check the thread with a caliper before drilling.
    • Measure the outer diameter of the cable. IP68 is only achieved when it is within 37–44 mm.
    • Place the gasket on the outside of the enclosure, under the gland's flange.
    • Tighten the dome cap firmly but do not overtighten: an overtightened plastic body can crack.
    • Do not leave unused openings open. Close them with blanking plugs.
    • Work on live boards must be carried out by a qualified electrician after isolating the supply and verifying it is dead.

    Quick selection guide

    PG48
    Ø37–44 mm
    IP68
    Locknut + gasket
    Suitable when you need to:
    • bring a 37–44 mm cable into a board or box with a sealed entry;
    • keep the IP rating of a waterproof enclosure;
    • hold the cable and protect it from rubbing against the edge of the hole.
    Check before use:
    • the outer diameter of the cable;
    • the gland thread diameter and the hole size;
    • the enclosure wall thickness (so the locknut engages enough thread).
    Important reminder: the gland seals the cable entry, but it does not replace an enclosure with the correct IP rating and does not provide EMC shielding.

    FAQ

    What cable size does the PG48 gland fit?
    A round cable with an outer diameter of 37–44 mm.
    Are the locknut and gasket included?
    Yes, the gland is supplied with a locknut and a gasket.
    What size hole should I drill?
    Drill the hole to the PG48 thread outer diameter – 59.3 mm per DIN 40430; check with a caliper before drilling.
    Can the gland be used outdoors?
    Yes, the IP68 rating allows outdoor use in boxes, provided the cable diameter is within range and the dome cap is properly tightened.
    Can two cables be passed through one gland?
    No, the gland is designed for one round cable, otherwise sealing is not ensured.
    What should I choose if the cable is outside the 37–44 mm range?
    For a thinner cable choose PG42 (32–38 mm, code 4772124000919), for a thicker one PG63 (42–50 mm, code 4772124000933).
