Rotary level switch for bulk materials, high-pressure version – 230VAC electromechanical point level sensor designed for grains, feed, cement, pellets and other bulk materials in pressurized tanks, hoppers and process systems. The rotating SUS304 stainless steel paddle detects the material level based on mechanical resistance, while the SPDT 5A / 250VAC contact transmits a signal to a control or alarm circuit. The model is designed for operation at pressures up to 1.6MPa and features IP65 protection, a G1" process connection and an M20x1.5 cable entry.

  • High-pressure rotary paddle level switch for bulk materials | 230VAC | up to 1.6MPa | SPDT 5A | IP65

High-pressure rotary paddle level switch – an electromechanical point level control device designed for bulk materials in tanks, hoppers, silos and process equipment where process pressure may reach up to 1.6MPa. A synchronous motor rotates the stainless steel paddle at approximately 1 rpm. As long as the bulk material does not touch the paddle, it rotates freely. When the material reaches the paddle and creates mechanical resistance, paddle rotation stops and the internal mechanism switches the SPDT microswitch contact. The contact signal can be used for signalling, control or process automation.

    High-pressure version – up to 1.6MPa

This model differs from the standard version because it is designed for operation in pressurised process tanks and equipment. The maximum operating pressure is 1.6MPa. This allows the switch to be used in processes where a conventional model intended for normal atmospheric pressure would not be sufficient.

    Operating principle

    Condition Paddle operation Output response
No material present The synchronous motor rotates the paddle at approximately 1 rpm. The switch remains in its normal state.
Material reaches the paddle The bulk material creates mechanical resistance and stops the paddle from rotating. The internal mechanism switches the SPDT microswitch contact.
Material level drops The paddle is released and can rotate freely again. The mechanism returns to its initial contact state.

How does the high-pressure rotary level switch work?

    1. The switch is installed at the selected location in a pressurised tank, hopper or process unit.
    2. The process connection must be correctly installed and sealed in accordance with the requirements of the specific pressurised system.
    3. When 230VAC power is connected, the synchronous motor starts rotating the SUS304 paddle.
    4. As long as there is no bulk material around the paddle, it rotates at approximately 1 rpm.
    5. When the material level rises to the paddle, the paddle is mechanically stopped.
    6. The internal mechanism detects the rotational resistance and switches the SPDT microswitch contact.
    7. The contact signal is transmitted to a PLC, relay, alarm system or another compatible control circuit.
    8. When the material level drops and the paddle is released, the mechanism returns to its initial state.
    Maximum operating pressure – 1.6MPa

This version is designed for processes where the pressure may reach up to 1.6MPa. The specified limit must not be exceeded. When designing the installation, it is necessary to consider not only the operating pressure of the switch itself, but also the suitability of the process connection, thread, sealing components and the complete mounting assembly for the specific pressure.

SPDT contact for the control system

The integrated microswitch has an SPDT changeover contact with an electrical rating of up to 5A / 250VAC. The contact can be used to transmit a point-level signal to a PLC, contactor, interposing relay, visual or audible alarm, or other compatible control equipment.

    Application in pressurised process systems

For grain, animal feed, cement, pellets and other bulk materials

The high-pressure rotary level switch is intended for processes where the point level of bulk material must be monitored while withstanding process pressures of up to 1.6MPa. It can be used in pressurised process tanks, hoppers, storage equipment and other enclosed systems, provided that the temperature and other process conditions comply with the technical specifications of the product.

    Advantages

    • Operating pressure up to 1.6MPa allows the model to be used in pressurised process systems.
    • Simple electromechanical operating principle does not require complex continuous level measurement.

    Disadvantages / limitations

    • 1.6MPa is the maximum pressure limit: process pressure must not exceed the permitted switch rating.
    • Designed for point level rather than continuous level measurement: the switch detects material at a specific point but does not measure the exact filling height.
    • Mechanical contact with the material: the paddle must physically contact the monitored bulk material.
    • Installation sealing is critical: the G1" connection, adapters and sealing components must be suitable for the actual system pressure.
    • Not suitable for liquid level measurement: the operating principle is based on bulk material stopping the rotating paddle.
    • Clearance is required for paddle rotation: there must be no tank structures or other obstructions around the paddle.

    Practical application example

In a pressurised bulk-material process tank, the rotary paddle switch is installed at the maximum permitted filling level. During operation, the system works under increased pressure but does not exceed 1.6MPa. As long as the material does not reach the paddle, the 230VAC synchronous motor rotates it at approximately 1 rpm. When the tank fills, the bulk material stops the paddle, the internal mechanism switches the SPDT contact, and the signal is transmitted to a controller that can stop material feeding or activate a full-tank alarm.
