  • Decorative acoustic MDF slat panel – 2400×600×22 mm, PET felt, NRC 0.8, white oak

    Decorative acoustic wall and ceiling panel consisting of wood-effect MDF slats and sound-absorbing PET fibre felt. It is designed for interior finishing, improving room acoustics and reducing unwanted echo and sound reflections.

    The white oak technical wood veneer gives the panel a natural wood appearance, while the black acoustic backing enhances the vertical slats and helps create a modern, rhythmic wall or ceiling surface.

    Main purpose:
    The panel is used for decorative wall and ceiling finishing and for improving room acoustics. PET felt absorbs part of the sound energy, while the slat-and-gap construction helps diffuse sound reflections, reducing echo, unwanted reverberation and the perception of noise in the room.

    Construction and operating principle

    The front of the panel consists of parallel MDF slats covered with technical wood veneer. The slats are attached to a black sound-absorbing PET fibre backing.

    When sound enters the room, some sound waves are reflected by the slats, some are diffused through the gaps between them, while some reach the PET felt layer and are absorbed within it. This combination helps reduce unwanted sound reflections and improve speech and music clarity.

    The panel does not provide complete sound insulation between two rooms, but it can significantly improve acoustic comfort within the room itself.

    Acoustic and decorative function in one product:
    The MDF slats provide a natural wood rhythm and structure to the wall, while the PET felt backing helps absorb part of the sound travelling through the room. Therefore, the panel serves not only as a finishing element but also as an acoustic improvement element.

    Acoustic properties

    The manufacturer-declared sound absorption coefficient is NRC 0.8. This means that a properly installed panel system can absorb a significant portion of the sound energy reaching it.

    • helps reduce echo in the room;
    • reduces unwanted sound reflections;
    • can improve speech intelligibility;
    • helps reduce the perception of noise in common areas;
    • suitable for music, work and relaxation spaces.
    Important regarding the NRC value:
    The actual sound absorption performance depends on the installation method, air gap behind the panel, backing material, additional mineral wool, covered surface area and the construction of the room itself. NRC 0.8 should be considered in relation to the specific panel and installation system tested by the manufacturer.

    Slat arrangement

    Declared slat module:
    According to the supplied specification, the panels use approximately 27 mm wide MDF slats with approximately 13 mm gaps between them. This rhythmic arrangement creates a vertical line effect and allows the black acoustic PET felt backing to remain visible between the slats.

    The panels can be installed vertically or horizontally, depending on the desired interior solution. Vertical installation visually increases the height of a room, while horizontal installation can help create the impression of a wider wall.

    White oak technical wood veneer

    The MDF slat surface is covered with technical wood veneer featuring a white oak pattern. It reproduces the texture of natural wood while providing a more consistent colour and grain direction.

    • light and neutral white oak shade;
    • suitable for Scandinavian and modern interiors;
    • matches white, grey and black surfaces;
    • can be combined with concrete, metal and glass;
    • natural wood appearance without a solid wood construction.
    Colour and grain differences:
    The colour visible on screen may differ from the actual product due to monitor settings, lighting and the veneer production batch. Before ordering a larger quantity, it is recommended to evaluate a physical sample.

    MDF backing and emission class

    The slat backing is made of MDF board with a manufacturer-declared emission class of CARB P2.

    • MDF board with controlled formaldehyde emissions;
    • suitable for interior finishing products;
    • uniform structure helps maintain accurate slat shape;
    • surface suitable for decorative veneer;
    • stable construction under indoor conditions.
    CARB P2:
    This designation relates to limits on formaldehyde emissions from wood-based panels. It should not be confused with a fire, moisture or structural strength classification.

    PET acoustic felt

    The black rear backing is made of compressed PET fibre. This layer acts as a sound-absorbing material and also holds the MDF slats together in one panel.

    • absorbs part of the sound entering the panel;
    • reduces room reverberation;
    • creates a contrasting black background between the slats;
    • makes it easier to adapt the panel to a wall or ceiling;
    • helps reduce acoustic reflections from hard surfaces.

    Fire classification

    The manufacturer’s data indicates that acoustic PET felt, depending on the specific version and testing system, may achieve:

    • EN 13501-1:2018 classification;
    • ASTM E84 Class A classification;
    • an B1 flame-retardant PET felt version is also mentioned.
    Documents must be checked before use in a project:
    Different fire classifications belong to different testing systems and cannot automatically be considered equivalent. It is also important to determine whether the certificate applies only to the PET felt or to the complete MDF slat, veneer, adhesive and felt panel system. For project use, the specific product test report and classification document must be followed.

    Practical example of use

    For example, a white oak slat acoustic wall is installed behind the television in a living room. The panels are installed vertically from floor to ceiling, with the edges joined so that the slat pattern remains continuous.

    The black PET felt is visible between the light MDF slats and creates a contrast. At the same time, it absorbs part of the sound reflected from the television, speakers, furniture and hard walls.

    The room has less perceived echo, while the wall surface becomes a strong interior accent. Openings for electrical sockets, a TV mount or lighting elements can also be created in the panel.

    If greater sound absorption is required, the panels can be installed on a batten framework with an additional acoustic mineral wool layer behind them.

    Use according to requirements

    For home users: suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, TV walls, home offices or other spaces where decorative wood-effect finishing is to be combined with improved room acoustics.

    For interior designers: allows vertical or horizontal slat compositions, accent walls and ceiling zones to be created by combining the white oak surface with the black acoustic PET backing.

    For offices or commercial premises: can be used in meeting rooms, offices, reception areas, hotels, restaurants, cafés and other spaces where both interior appearance and reduction of echo and reverberation are important.

    For improving acoustics: suitable for rooms with many hard sound-reflecting surfaces. The panels help absorb part of the sound energy and reduce unwanted sound reflections within the room.

    For installers: the panels can be installed vertically or horizontally, cut to the required dimensions and adapted around electrical sockets, switches or other interior elements. For walls, mechanical fixing or suitable mounting adhesive can be selected, while reliable mechanical fixing is recommended for ceilings.

    Installation methods

    Screw installation

    • the panel is screwed through the PET felt backing;
    • suitable for walls, ceilings and wooden frameworks;
    • easier to remove the panel later;
    • allows more precise adjustment of the panel position;
    • fasteners suitable for the substrate must be selected.

    Adhesive installation

    • suitable for a smooth and solid wall surface;
    • no visible screws are required;
    • adhesive suitable for MDF and PET materials must be used;
    • the substrate must be clean and dry;
    • removal may damage the wall or panel.

    Installation on a framework

    For greater acoustic performance:
    The panels can be installed on a wooden batten framework, leaving an air gap between the wall and the panel. Suitable acoustic mineral wool can also be installed between the battens. Such a system generally absorbs more sound than a panel directly adhered to a hard wall.

    The exact framework spacing, batten cross-section, insulation thickness and fixing method must be selected according to the wall or ceiling construction, panel weight and acoustic requirements of the project.

    Installation instructions

    1. Measure the wall or ceiling. Calculate the required number of panels and allow for cutting waste.
    2. Check the substrate. It must be dry, solid, level and free from loose finishing layers.
    3. Plan the slat direction. Decide in advance whether the panels will be installed vertically or horizontally.
    4. Mark the position of the first panel. Use a spirit level or laser level.
    5. Cut the panel if necessary. MDF slats should be cut with a suitable wood-cutting tool, while the PET felt should be cut with a sharp knife.
    6. For adhesive installation, apply mounting adhesive to the back of the panel according to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
    7. For screw installation, screw the panel through the PET backing. The screw heads can be concealed in the black felt between the slats.
    8. Check vertical alignment and slat spacing. The next panel should continue the same pattern.
    9. Cut openings for sockets and switches only after their positions have been accurately marked.
    10. Finish the edges. Suitable finishing profiles or edge slats can be used for visible cut edges.
    11. Remove dust after installation using a dry method, with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.

    Cleaning and maintenance

    • Vacuum dust using a soft furniture or brush attachment.
    • Clean the surface with a dry soft cloth.
    • Clean the gaps between the slats with a soft brush.
    • Do not use excessive water.
    • Do not use abrasive sponges.

    FAQ – Frequently asked questions

    Does the panel insulate sound from an adjacent room?
    Not completely. The panel is primarily designed to absorb part of the sound within the room and reduce echo. Sound insulation between rooms requires a complete wall or ceiling construction with massive layers, airtightness and insulating materials.
    What does NRC 0.8 mean?
    It is the manufacturer-declared sound absorption rating. It indicates high average sound absorption, but the actual result depends on the installation method and the complete tested construction.
    How much area does one panel cover?
    A 2400×600 mm panel covers approximately 1.44 m² of surface, excluding cutting and installation losses.
    Can the panel be cut?
    Yes. MDF slats can be cut with a saw intended for wood, while the PET backing can be cut with a sharp knife. Before cutting, accurately mark the cutting line and protect the veneer surface from chipping.
    Can an opening for an electrical socket be cut into the panel?
    Yes. An opening can be cut according to the dimensions of the specific socket or switch mounting box. Electrical work must be carried out with the power supply disconnected.
    Can it be installed on a ceiling?
    Yes, but mechanical fixing with screws into a suitable substrate or framework is recommended for ceilings. The suitability of adhesive alone must be confirmed by the adhesive manufacturer according to the panel weight and substrate type.
    Can it be installed directly onto a wall?
    Yes. The panel can be screwed or adhered directly to a smooth and solid substrate. For greater sound absorption, a framework, air gap and additional acoustic wool layer can be used.
    Can it be installed in a bathroom?
    The panel is made of MDF and is not intended for direct exposure to water or continuously high humidity. It should be used in dry indoor spaces.
    How should the panel be cleaned?
    Dust should be removed with a vacuum cleaner fitted with a soft attachment or with a dry cloth. The panel must not be washed with large amounts of water.
    Is the panel non-combustible?
    Not necessarily. The manufacturer indicates possible flame-retardant and tested PET felt versions, but the specific fire classification of the complete panel must be confirmed by a valid classification document.
    What does CARB P2 mean?
    It is a class related to formaldehyde emission requirements for MDF boards. It does not describe the panel’s sound absorption, water resistance or fire performance.
    Will the wood grain of different panels be exactly the same?
    Technical veneer generally provides a more consistent appearance than natural wood, but minor colour and grain differences between production batches are still possible.
