DC contactor 24 V DC / 50 A – a low-voltage direct current switching device with a 24 V DC control coil, 1NO contact and contact voltage up to 80 V DC. Rated current according to the DC-1 utilization category is 50 A. The contactor has an IP50 protection rating and is suitable for battery systems, UPS systems, transport applications, telecommunications and other DC control systems.

  • Warning: the control coil is rated for a 80 V DC supply only – not 230 V and not 400 V. Connecting any other voltage – risk of damaging the device. Installation must be carried out by a competent specialist.

    DC contactor | 24V DC coil | 50A DC-1 | ≤80V DC | 1NO | IP50

DC electromagnetic contactor designed for switching and controlling low-voltage direct-current circuits. The contactor control coil is supplied with 24 V DC, while the rated current of the main contact according to the DC-1 utilisation category is 50 A. Rated contact voltage – up to 80 V DC.

The model has 1NO normally open main contact and is suitable for electric forklifts, battery-powered vehicles, excavators, automotive air-conditioning systems, telecommunications power supplies, UPS systems and other DC control circuits.

DC circuit switching with 24 V DC control

When the contactor coil is supplied with 24 V DC, the electromagnetic system closes the main normally open contact and allows a separate DC load circuit to be controlled. This design makes it possible to switch a higher-current DC circuit using a low-power control signal.

    Operating principle

The contactor operates on an electromagnetic principle. When control voltage is applied to the 24 V DC coil, a magnetic field is generated which operates the contactor mechanism and closes the main 1NO contact.

When coil power is removed, the electromagnetic force disappears and the contact returns to its initial – open – state. In this way, the contactor can be used for automated switching of DC loads on and off.

50 A is specified for the DC-1 utilisation category

The specified 50 A rated contact current applies to the DC-1 utilisation category. It should not be interpreted as the permissible current for every possible DC load. Motors, solenoids, capacitive loads, inverters and other loads may have high starting or switching currents, therefore the contactor must be selected according to the actual load characteristics.

    Contact system

The contactor has one normally open main contact – 1NO. When the control coil is not energised, the main circuit is open. When the 24 V DC coil is energised, the contact closes and connects the load circuit.

Contact material – AgCu(10)/Cu. Silver- and copper-based contact materials are used to provide good electrical conductivity and resistance to electrical and thermal stress.

    Construction and materials

The contactor housing uses a thermosetting BMC composite material. Such materials provide electrical insulating properties and resistance to elevated temperatures.

A nickel-plated iron mounting bracket is used to reinforce the mechanical construction. It is intended to provide mechanical stability and secure bolted mounting of the contactor.

    IP50 degree of protection

The contactor has an IP50 degree of protection. The first digit “5” indicates protection against dust ingress in quantities that could interfere with normal operation of the device. The second digit “0” indicates that no protection against water is specified under the IP classification.

    Starting current

The contactor can withstand an instantaneous current of up to 7 × Ie provided its duration does not exceed 1 second. Here, Ie means the rated operational current under the specific utilisation conditions specified by the manufacturer.

Peak current is not continuous permissible current

The 7Ie, ≤1 s parameter describes a short-term switching or starting load and must not be interpreted as permission to operate the contactor continuously at this current.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the contactor coil voltage?

The control coil voltage is 24 V DC.

What is the rated contact current?

50 A according to the DC-1 utilisation category.

What is the maximum contact voltage?

According to the provided specification – up to 80 V DC.

How many contacts does the contactor have?

One normally open main contact – 1NO.

Can this contactor directly control a 50 A DC motor?

This cannot be determined from the 50 A DC-1 rating alone. A DC motor is an inductive load and may draw significantly higher current during startup. The contactor must be selected according to the actual motor starting current, operating current, switching current and the utilisation category specified by the manufacturer.

    Does IP50 protect against water?

No. In the IP50 classification, the second digit “0” indicates that no protection against water is specified.

Important electrical safety and selection information

The contactor is a switching device, not a short-circuit protective device. The DC circuit must include separate suitable short-circuit and overcurrent protection selected according to the conductors, power source and connected load.

Before selecting the contactor for motors, inverters, UPS systems, electromagnetic or other inductive and capacitive loads, the actual starting and switching currents must be evaluated. The 50 A DC-1 rated current alone is not sufficient to confirm suitability for a complex load.
