    ABB B6-30-10-80 mini contactor – 3P, 20A, 4kW, 220-240V AC coil, 3NO + 1NO, DIN

ABB B6-30-10-80 – a compact three-phase mini contactor with three main normally open contacts and one auxiliary normally open contact. It is designed for controlling single-phase and three-phase loads, control signals and electric motors where reliable operation, compact dimensions and simple installation on a DIN rail or directly on a wall are important.

    Main idea:
This mini contactor is designed for three-phase motors up to 4 kW at 400V in AC-3 duty and for loads up to 20A in AC-1 duty. Thanks to its compact construction, silent coil, mechanical position indication and DIN mounting option, it is suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
    Main contacts
    3NO / 3P
    Motor power AC-3
    Up to 4 kW / 400V
    Rated current AC-1
    Up to 20A
    Coil voltage
    220-240V AC

    Operating principle

The contactor is controlled via a 220-240V AC coil. When voltage is applied to the coil, the electromagnet pulls in the contact system and closes the three main normally open contacts. This switches on the connected load – for example, a three-phase motor, pump, fan, compressor, heating equipment or another electrical circuit.

When the coil supply is interrupted, the contactor returns to its initial state and the main contacts open. The auxiliary 1NO contact can be used in self-holding, status indication, signalling or PLC / automation control circuits.

When is a mini contactor used?
A mini contactor is selected when an electrical load must be controlled reliably, but there is limited space in the electrical cabinet. The ABB B6 series is suitable for control cabinets, smaller machines, pumps, fans, heating systems, automated circuits and other compact installations.

    Practical usage example

For example, the contactor is installed in an electrical panel to control a three-phase fan or pump. The three main contacts are connected between the circuit breaker and the motor, while the coil is controlled via a switch, thermostat, pressure relay, timer, PLC controller or another automation signal.

The auxiliary 1NO contact can be used for contactor self-holding or for a light indication signal. In this way, the control system can switch the load on and off according to the set operating mode, safety circuit or external automation signal.

    Use according to needs

For electricians: a convenient mini contactor for standard DIN mounting, with screw terminals, a 220–240V AC coil and an auxiliary 1NO contact. Suitable when a compact solution is needed in smaller electrical cabinets.

For automation specialists: can be used in PLC, timer, thermostat, pressure relay or other control signal circuits. The auxiliary contact is useful for self-holding and status signalling functions.

For industrial specialists: suitable for controlling smaller motors, pumps, fans, compressors and other equipment when the load parameters meet the AC-1 or AC-3 category limits.

For building maintenance specialists: can be used in control cabinets for heating, ventilation, water supply, lighting and other building technical systems.

    Disadvantages / limitations

    • Designed for motors up to 4 kW at 400V AC-3 – higher-power motors require a larger contactor.
    • The coil operates only with 220-240V AC – not suitable for 24V, 48V or other coil voltages unless the correct model is selected.
    • Terminal protection IP20 – the contactor must be installed in a suitable electrical cabinet or protected enclosure.
    • No integrated thermal motor protection – motors require a separate motor protection device or thermal overload relay according to the circuit design.
    • Parameters depend on the load category – AC-1 and AC-3 values are not the same, so the contactor must be selected according to the actual load.

    Safety and installation notes

The contactor must be selected according to the actual load, motor power, voltage, control coil voltage and switching category. Before installation, it is necessary to check whether the B6-30-10-80 model with a 220-240V AC coil matches the voltage of the specific control system.

    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
    • Before work, the electrical power supply must be disconnected.
    • Motor power must be evaluated according to the AC-3 category, not only according to the contactor AC-1 current.
    • Check the coil voltage – this model requires 220–240V AC control voltage.
    • In motor circuits, use a suitable circuit breaker, fuses and thermal protection.
    • Connect conductors according to the specified cross-section and tightening torque of 0.8-1.1 N·m.
    • The terminals must be protected against direct contact, as the specified protection class is IP20.
    • Before starting the system, check the wiring diagram of the main contacts, coil and auxiliary contact.
