  • Modular three-phase multifunction energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | bidirectional | RS485 Modbus | DIN | Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2

    Code: SDM630-Modbus V2

Direct-connected three-phase multifunction meter up to 100 A with RS485 Modbus RTU and two pulse outputs. It measures energy imported from and exported to the grid, voltages, currents, power and demand – for internal metering in SCADA, BMS and PLC systems.

  • Modular three-phase multifunction energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | bidirectional | RS485 Modbus | DIN | Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2

The Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2 is a 4-module (72 mm) DIN meter for 3×230/400 V networks, connected directly up to 100 A without current transformers. Data is transmitted via RS485 Modbus RTU, and two pulse outputs deliver import and export energy separately.

    Key point:
One meter instead of several devices: besides kWh and kVArh it shows voltages, currents, power, frequency and demand, with import and export counted separately. RS485 Modbus RTU lets you read the values in a SCADA, BMS or PLC system over distances up to 1000 m.

    Bidirectional metering
Yes. It measures energy imported from and exported to the grid – import and export (kWh, kVArh) are registered separately. Compatibility with inverter power / export control must be confirmed separately – bidirectional metering alone is not enough.

    Communication interfaces and integration

    RS485 Modbus RTU
1200–38400 bps, addresses 1–247, line up to 1000 m. Readings in SCADA, BMS or PLC systems, Home Assistant via a Modbus gateway; for an inverter only if the inverter supports this meter model.
    2 pulse outputs
Separate import and export energy pulses – for a data logger, PLC counter input or BMS.

    Operating principle

Mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail (4 modules, 72 mm) and connected directly up to 100 A; 1P2W, 3P3W and 3P4W systems are supported.

The meter operates at 80–120% of rated voltage, starts counting from 40 mA and accumulates energy in separate import and export registers.

Readings are shown on the backlit LCD, read via RS485 Modbus RTU and output through two pulse outputs.

Why choose the Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2?
A single 72 mm device replaces a kWh meter and a network analyser, and Modbus RTU passes the data to an existing control system without extra converters. Direct connection up to 100 A means no current transformers are needed.

    Main functions

    • RS485 Modbus RTU – 1200–38400 bps, addresses 1–247, line up to 1000 m.
    • Bidirectional metering – import / export kWh and kVArh separately.
    • Network parameters – V, A, W, var, VA, PF, Hz, THD and demand.
    • Accuracy – active energy Class 1 / B, reactive Class 2.
    • 2 pulse outputs – import and export energy.
    • Direct 100 A connection – no current transformers.

How does it differ from similar models?

Eastron SDM630-MT Same 100 A multifunction platform with RS485 Modbus, plus 4 tariffs and MID – choose it for multi-tariff or billing metering.
    Eastron SDM630MCT Connected via 1 / 5 A current transformers – for currents above 100 A; the SDM630-Modbus V2 connects directly up to 100 A.
Eastron SDM72D-M-MID Simpler 100 A Modbus meter with MID – when certified kWh metering is needed without detailed network analysis.
Schneider iEM3150 Modbus and MID, but direct connection only up to 63 A; the SDM630-Modbus V2 handles up to 100 A.

    Where is it used?

    • Tenant and department electricity sub-metering
    • SCADA and BMS systems with RS485 Modbus
    • PLC-controlled industrial equipment
    • Home Assistant via a Modbus gateway
    • Load monitoring of switchboards and circuits
    • Sites with on-site generation – import and export monitoring
    • Equipment energy audits

    Use by requirement

    For property managers.
Readings for each tenant or circuit in the BMS via Modbus.
    For installers.
Direct 100 A connection without transformers, 4 modules.
    For energy engineers.
Import / export, demand and network parameters in one device.

    Practical use

If a workshop needs to meter several machines separately and see them in SCADA, install an SDM630-Modbus V2 on each circuit, assign different Modbus addresses (1–247) and connect the meters on one RS485 line – all readings are then collected in one place.

    Pros

    • Direct connection up to 100 A
    • RS485 Modbus RTU, line up to 1000 m
    • Bidirectional active and reactive energy metering
    • Active energy – Class 1 (IEC 62053-21) / B (EN 50470-3)
    • Starting current 40 mA
    • 2 pulse outputs

    Cons / limitations

    • MID is not confirmed for this item – for billing choose the SDM630-MT or SDM72D-M-MID.
    • No dual tariff – for multi-tariff metering choose the SDM630-MT (4 tariffs).
    • Up to 100 A only – for higher currents choose the SDM630MCT with current transformers.
    • Home Assistant or Ethernet systems require a separate Modbus gateway.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation only by a qualified electrician with the power disconnected.
    • Fit upstream protection sized for the cable cross-section.
    • Follow the terminal markings – swapped phases or neutral give wrong power and direction readings.
    • Wire the RS485 line with twisted-pair cable and observe A / B polarity; line length up to 1000 m.
    • The IP51 housing is for indoor use.

    Quick selection guide

    100 A direct
    3×230/400 V
    RS485 Modbus RTU
    Class 1 / B
    Suitable when you need:
    • Electricity readings in SCADA, BMS or PLC
    • Import / export metering
    • Direct connection up to 100 A
    Check before use:
    • On the label – that it is not the -2T (dual-tariff) variant
    • MID marking on the label, if billing metering is required
    • That the load does not exceed 100 A
Important reminder: Without a confirmed MID marking the meter does not replace a billing meter, and inverter export control requires compatibility confirmed by the inverter manufacturer.
