    NYM 2×4 mm² – white copper cable with 2 solid conductors (L, N – no protective PE conductor) for fixed electrical installation inside buildings. Manufacturer – AB Lietkabelis, designation KH05VV-U 2x4, rated voltage 300/500 V.

    Key point:
    A two-core cable is suitable only where no protective conductor is required: control and signalling circuits or class II (double-insulated) equipment. For all ordinary 230 V circuits use 3-core NYM-J.
    ⚠ This cable has no protective PE conductor. Not for sockets or class I (metal-cased) appliances – use 3-core NYM-J for those.

    How it works

    The cable is installed permanently: in walls, under plaster, in conduits or trunking from the board to the load. Cores are connected by colour: L, N – no protective PE conductor.

    Solid 4 mm² copper conductors carry the current, while PVC insulation and the white sheath protect them mechanically and electrically. The continuous conductor temperature is up to +70 °C, so the current rating depends on how well the cable dissipates heat.

    With the right protection (25 A) and length (up to ≈ 25 m at 25 A), the circuit runs for years without overheating and the voltage drop stays within 3 %.

    • Before work, isolate the supply, secure it against switching on and verify that no voltage is present.
    • Run cables in walls vertically and horizontally – so they aren't drilled later.
    • Strip cores with a proper tool without nicking the copper.
    • Before energising a new circuit, measuring insulation resistance is recommended.
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
    • 2×4 is not a single 8 mm² conductor.
    • The cable is not chosen by the breaker alone – installation method and circuit length are checked too.

    It is the same cable type: NYM-J is the common designation, KH05VV-U is the Lietkabelis product designation.
    Does 2×4 mean a total cross-section of 8 mm²?
    No. These are 2 separate 4 mm² cores.
    Can it be laid outdoors or underground?
    No. NYM-J is for indoor use; outdoors and underground choose CYKY-L, underground with mechanical protection and warning tape.
    Do you sell by the metre?
    Yes, the sales unit is 1 metre; for project quantities we prepare a quotation.
    Why is this cable not suitable for sockets?
    It has no PE core, so a metal appliance housing would remain unearthed.
