Latching push-button switches | ON-OFF | reversing

  • Latching push-button switches directly switch single-phase and three-phase loads up to 16 A – machine tools, pumps, compressors and heaters. ON-OFF and reversing models are available. Selection rule: the switch rated current must exceed the load current, and the motor must be protected by a separate circuit breaker.

  • Push-button switches with mechanical latching are electromechanical switches that switch the load directly, while the pressed button latches mechanically in the selected position. This group includes ON-OFF switches for single-phase and three-phase loads and reversing motor switches (FORWARD / STOP / REVERSE). Suitable for machine tools, pumps, compressors, fans and conveyors – wherever a separate contactor and control circuit are not required.

    Functions

    • Direct load switching – the operating current flows through the switch contacts (2–16 A depending on the model).
    • Mechanical latching – the ON button stays engaged until STOP / OFF is pressed.
    • Clear position indication – the button position shows whether the circuit is on.
    • Reversing models – change of motor rotation direction via the STOP position.

    Applications

    • Workshops and farms – control of machine tools, grinders, pumps and compressors.
    • Industry – local control of low-power motors on production lines, conveyors, gates and hoists.
    • Equipment manufacturers – a compact control solution integrated into the machine housing.

    Advantages

    • Simple circuit – no contactor or separate control voltage needed.
    • Low cost for low-power motors.
    • Robust mechanical design.

    Limitations

    • Limited switching current and power – larger motors require a contactor with a thermal overload relay.
    • The switch provides no overload protection – the motor must be protected separately (motor protection circuit breaker or thermal relay).
    • After a power failure the switch remains in the ON position, so the machine restarts automatically when voltage returns. Where this is hazardous, use contactor control with a self-holding circuit.

    Safety note: mechanical latching is not protection during maintenance. Before servicing, isolate the circuit with a disconnector and lock it out with LOTO lockout devices.
