  • Split-core current transformer | 1000/5 A | 0,5 VA | class 0,5 | for cable 2ר42 mm | IP20 | ELEQ TQ50-L | 4Q5L67

ELEQ TQ50-L 4Q5L67 is a compact split-core current transformer 1000/5 A for energy meters, power analysers and current measuring systems with a 5 A input. The core opens, so the transformer is clipped onto an already installed insulated cable – no need to disconnect it and pull it through.

    Key point:
When metering has to be added to an existing switchboard – a PV plant, a building incomer or a production line – a split-core transformer saves time and a shutdown window. The key is choosing the ratio for the real load and making sure the 0,5 VA burden covers the meter input and the secondary lead losses.
    Ratio
    1000/5 A
    Burden / class
    0,5 VA / cl. 0,5
    Cable aperture
    2ר42 mm
    Mounting
Split core, fixed with cable ties

    Operating principle

The housing is opened, placed around the insulated phase conductor and closed until it clicks. It is fixed to the cable with the two cable ties supplied. The TQ50 top part comes off completely, which helps in tight spaces.

Primary current up to 1000 A is transformed into a proportional secondary current up to 5 A. The secondary is brought out on colour-coded 3 m, 1.5 mm² leads connected to the meter or analyser current input.

The same ratio is set in the meter – the device then shows the real primary current, power and energy.

    Why choose ELEQ TQ50-L 4Q5L67?
Metering can be installed in an existing installation without disconnecting cables or rebuilding the board, and accuracy class 0,5 suits energy metering and load monitoring.

    Main functions

    • Split core – fitted onto an existing cable, no disconnection or rewiring.
    • Ratio 1000/5 A – for meters and analysers with a 5 A current input.
    • Accuracy class 0,5 – reliable energy metering and load analysis.
    • Pre-fitted 3 m secondary leads – no extra terminals at the transformer.
    • Colour-coded leads – lower risk of polarity errors.
    • Compact housing – fits boards with no room for solid ring CTs.

    Where is it used?

    • Building or plant incomer energy metering
    • PV generation and consumption metering
    • Power limiting and load management systems
    • Energy monitoring of production lines and machines
    • Retrofit of existing boards without a shutdown window
    • Tenant and zone sub-metering in commercial buildings
    • Current inputs of power analysers and PLCs

    Use by need

    For the installing electrician.
Clipped onto the cable in minutes – no need to disconnect the line or redo terminations.
For the energy / facility manager.
Quickly starts measuring real consumption and reveals the largest loads.
For the automation / SCADA integrator.
A standard 1000/5 A signal for Modbus analysers and data transfer to the control system.

    Practical use

If the incoming cable is already installed and metering must be added without stopping operations, fit a 4Q5L67 on each phase, connect the leads to the meter current inputs and set the ratio 1000/5 in the meter. First make sure the real maximum current is within the transformer range and the meter plus lead burden does not exceed 0,5 VA.

    Pros

    • Installation without disconnecting the cable
    • Compact size
    • Pre-fitted secondary leads
    • Accuracy class 0,5
    • Complies with IEC 61869-2
    • Ideal for retrofitting existing installations

    Cons / limitations

    • Small burden reserve – 0,5 VA; long extension leads may take it out of class
    • Insulated cables up to 2ר42 mm only, not busbars
    • IP20 – indoor, in an enclosure only
    • Fixed ratio – must be selected for the real load

    Safety and installation notes

    • Fit on insulated conductors only; do not touch live parts.
    • Never open the secondary circuit while primary current flows – short the leads or keep them connected to the meter.
    • Observe the current direction marking (P1→P2) – wrong direction gives negative power and false metering.
    • Use the same orientation on all three phases and the correct phase sequence.
    • Consider secondary lead length and cross-section – longer leads add burden (VA).
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in line with applicable safety rules.

    Suitable when you need:
    • Metering in an existing installation without a shutdown
    • Connecting a meter or analyser with a 5 A input
    • Measuring currents up to 1000 A
    Check before use:
    • Cable outer diameter
    • Meter input burden plus lead losses – max. 0,5 VA in total
    • Whether the meter supports an x/5 A ratio setting
Important reminder: A current transformer does not measure or protect anything by itself – it only passes the current signal to a meter or analyser.
