  • Aerosol Fire Extinguishing Module | 30g | 0.3m³ | 5–24V DC | Thermal and Electrical Activation

Aerosol Fire Extinguishing Module | 40g | up to 0.4m³ | 5-24V DC | Thermal and Electrical Activation

Aerosol fire extinguishing module – a compact device designed for local fire protection in electrical, automation and other enclosed technical spaces. The module is mounted on a flat surface and can be activated in two ways: automatically via a thermal activation line or electrically using a 5–24V DC activation circuit. The thermal line activates when directly exposed to flame or when its temperature reaches approximately 170±10°C. For electrical activation, the module is used together with a fire detector and controller: when the detector detects a fire, the controller sends a 5–24V DC activation signal with a current greater than 350mA. The device contains 40g of aerosol-generating chemical agent, while the protected volume is up to 0.4m³ when the extinguishing density is 100g/m³.

Two activation methods – automatic thermal and 5–24V DC electrical

The thermal activation line allows the module to activate automatically without an external detector: when it is directly exposed to flame or its temperature reaches approximately 170±10°C, the extinguishing process is initiated. For electrical activation, the module is connected to a 5–24V DC activation circuit and used together with a fire detector and controller. The controller output must provide an activation current greater than 350mA.

Automatic thermal activation 170±10°C When the thermal activation line is directly exposed to flame or its temperature reaches approximately 170±10°C, the module activates automatically and starts the extinguishing process.
Electrical activation 5-24V DC, >350mA The module is used together with a fire detector and controller. When the detector detects a fire, the controller sends a 5-24V DC activation signal with a current greater than 350mA.
Aerosol generation 40g When the device is activated, the chemical extinguishing agent generates aerosol, which is dispersed throughout the protected enclosed space.
Extinguishing density 100g/m³ The amount of extinguishing agent is selected according to the volume of the protected enclosed space.
Protected volume Up to 0.4m³ Designed for local fire protection of small and medium-sized electrical, automation and other enclosed technical spaces.
Installation On a flat surface The module is mounted inside the protected cabinet or technical enclosure on a suitably selected flat surface.

How does automatic thermal activation work?

The thermal activation line operates independently

The thermal line is designed for automatic activation of the extinguishing module. When it is directly exposed to flame or the temperature at the activation point reaches approximately 170±10°C, the module activates automatically. This activation method does not require a signal from an external fire detector or controller.

    1. The extinguishing module is installed on a flat surface inside the protected technical space.
    2. The thermal activation line is positioned within the protected area according to the manufacturer's installation requirements.
    3. Under normal conditions, the module remains passive.
    4. In the event of a fire, flame or high temperature affects the thermal activation line.
    5. When the line temperature reaches approximately 170±10°C or it is directly exposed to flame, the aerosol generator is activated automatically.
    6. The generated extinguishing aerosol is dispersed throughout the protected enclosed space and suppresses the combustion process.

How does 5–24V DC electrical activation work?

Operation together with a fire detector and controller

For electrical activation, the extinguishing module is used together with a fire detection sensor and controller. When the detector identifies signs of fire, the information is transmitted to the controller, which sends an activation signal to the extinguishing module. The activation voltage may range from 5V to 24V DC, but the activation current must be greater than 350mA.

    1. The fire detector monitors the protected technical space.
    2. When signs of fire are detected, the detector sends a signal to the controller.
    3. The controller processes the signal and sends a 5–24V DC activation command to the extinguishing module.
    4. The controller output must provide a current greater than 350mA.
    5. The extinguishing module is activated and begins generating extinguishing aerosol.
    6. The aerosol is dispersed throughout the protected enclosed space and suppresses the combustion process.
Important: voltage alone is not sufficient

For electrical activation, simply applying 5–24V DC is not sufficient. The activation circuit must be capable of supplying more than 350mA. Before connecting the module, it is essential to verify that the controller output can provide the required voltage and current.

    Protected volume up to 0.4m³

One 40g module is designed to protect a volume of up to 0.4m³ when the extinguishing density is 100g/m³. When selecting the device, the actual internal volume of the protected space, ventilation openings, leakage, component arrangement and other installation conditions must be evaluated.

Panel mounting on a flat surface

The compact 136x105x14mm housing is mounted directly on a suitable flat surface inside an electrical or automation cabinet. Since no DIN rail is required for installation, the DIN rail space can remain available for circuit breakers, relays, contactors, PLC modules, power supplies and other electrical equipment.

Application in electrical and automation cabinets

Suitable for autonomous and controlled fire protection

The two activation methods allow the module to be used in different protection systems. The thermal line provides automatic activation in direct response to flame or high temperature, while 5–24V DC electrical activation allows the extinguishing process to be initiated with the help of a fire detector and controller.

    Advantages / benefits

    • Two activation methods – automatic thermal and electrical.
    • Automatic thermal activation allows the module to activate when the thermal line is exposed to flame or reaches approximately 170±10°C.
    • 5–24V DC electrical activation provides flexibility when integrating the module into fire detection and control systems.
    • Activation current >350mA clearly defines the requirement for the controller activation output.
    • Protected volume up to 0.4m³ is suitable for small and medium-sized electrical and automation cabinets.
    • 40g of extinguishing agent and an extinguishing density of 100g/m³.
    • Compact 135x105x14mm dimensions allow the module to be integrated into limited technical spaces.
    • Flat-surface mounting does not require a DIN rail.
    • Wide operating temperature range from -50°C to +90°C.
    • Ambient relative humidity up to 95% RH allows use under various technical environmental conditions.
    • 10-year service life designed for long-term stationary protection.

    Disadvantages / limitations

    • Protected volume limit: one module is designed for spaces up to 0.4m³, therefore larger volumes require a separate engineering assessment.
    • Additional equipment required for electrical activation: the module must be used together with a suitable fire detector and controller.
    • Sufficient output current is required: 5–24V DC voltage alone is not sufficient – the controller activation output must be capable of supplying more than 350mA.
    • Single-use operating principle: after actual activation, the aerosol generator must be replaced with a new one.
    • Importance of enclosure tightness: ventilation openings, leakage and intensive air exchange may affect the aerosol concentration in the protected space.
    • Not a whole-room fire suppression system: the product is intended for local fire protection of an enclosed technical space.

    Practical example

The internal protected volume of an automation cabinet is approximately 0.35m³. The cabinet contains circuit breakers, contactors, power supplies, relays and control electronics. The 40g aerosol fire extinguishing module is mounted on a suitable flat internal surface of the cabinet. The thermal activation line is positioned within the protected area, allowing the module to activate automatically if the line is directly exposed to flame or its temperature reaches approximately 170±10°C. In addition, the module is connected to a fire detector and controller. For electrical activation, the controller must send a 5–24V DC signal and provide an activation current greater than 350mA.
