  • Cable gland with nut and seal | PG9 | for cable Ø4–8 mm | grey | IP67 | PG-09

    Code: PG-09

Grey polyamide cable gland with a PG9 thread and a compression nut. It seals one round cable with an outer diameter of 4–8 mm – flexible 3×0.75–3×1.5 mm² cables (a guide only – the outer diameter decides). Protection IP67 (EN 60529), operating temperature −40…+85 °C.

  • Cable gland with nut and seal | PG9 | for cable Ø4–8 mm | grey | IP67 | PG-09

PG-09 is a grey PG9 cable gland made of polyamide. It is screwed into a threaded PG9 opening or inserted into a plain Ø 15.2 mm hole and secured from inside with a lock nut. When the nut is tightened, the seal wraps around the cable sheath and closes the gap between cable and enclosure.

    Key point:
PG9 covers the most common range of power leads for household and small equipment – flexible 3×0.75–3×1.5 mm² cables. The Ø4–8 mm range lets one size serve fans, luminaires and pumps, provided their outer diameter fits the limits. The grey colour matches grey plastic junction boxes and small panels, so the entry does not stand out.

    How it works

Installation. With the power off, prepare a PG9 threaded or Ø 15.2 mm opening in the enclosure, screw in and tighten the gland, then pass the cable through the loosened nut.

Operation. Turning the nut compresses the seal around the cable – it presses evenly onto the Ø4–8 mm sheath and also holds the cable against pull-out.

Result. A tight IP67 entry: dust stays out, and temporary immersion (EN 60529 test – up to 1 m depth, 30 min) does not break the seal.

    What makes PG-09 useful?
One size for most flexible equipment leads: the Ø4–8 mm range and the 15.2 mm thread outer diameter suit standard PG9 openings in boxes, luminaires and small equipment housings.

    Main functions

    • IP67 sealing – protection against dust and temporary immersion.
    • Cable retention – the tightened nut reduces pull on the terminals.
    • PG9 thread – fits standard PG9 openings, thread outer diameter 15.2 mm.
    • Range Ø4–8 mm – flexible 3×0.75–3×1.5 mm² cables (a guide only – the outer diameter decides).
    • Polyamide body – does not corrode, non-conductive, works at −40…+85 °C.
    • Grey colour – does not stand out on grey boxes and small panels.

    Where is it used?

    • Power entries of outdoor luminaires and floodlights
    • Terminal boxes of fans, pumps and small motors
    • Boxes for outdoor sockets and switches
    • Outdoor and damp-room installations where IP67 is required
    • Equipment housings where the cable enters through the wall
    • Repairs where an old, cracked cable entry is replaced
    • Grey plastic junction boxes and small panels

    Use by need

    For the lighting installer.
Leads of outdoor luminaires and floodlights usually fall within Ø4–8 mm – PG9 seals the entry without extra gaskets.
    For the designer.
In the specification it is enough to state PG9, cable Ø4–8 mm and IP67 – the parameters are clear, and the IP68 alternative 00827 (PG9, Ø4–8 mm) has the same thread.
    For the facility manager.
A grey entry on a grey box looks tidy, and IP67 reduces the risk of moisture-related faults in basements and outdoors.

    Practical use

If you are replacing a floodlight on a building facade and its lead is 3×1 mm² with an outer diameter of about 7 mm, PG9 will bring it into the junction box without adapters: the lead fits the Ø4–8 mm range and IP67 protects the connection from rain and meltwater.

    Pros

    • Defined range Ø4–8 mm for one PG9 size
    • IP67 according to EN 60529
    • Operating temperature −40…+85 °C – suitable for unheated rooms and outdoor equipment
    • Polyamide – rust-free and non-conductive
    • The tightened nut both seals and holds the cable
    • Grey colour – the entry does not stand out on grey housings

    Cons / limitations

    • IP67, not IP68 – for permanent immersion choose IP68 00827 (PG9, Ø4–8 mm) or ES-PG9.
    • Limited range: for a cable thinner than 4 mm choose PG-07 / PG-07B (PG7, Ø3.5–6 mm); for one thicker than 8 mm – PG-11 / PG-11B (PG11, Ø5–10 mm).
    • One gland – one round cable; not for flat cables or several wires.
    • Not a fire barrier – it does not replace fire-rated cable penetrations.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Work in a panel or box only with the power disconnected and the absence of voltage verified.
    • After drilling, remove all swarf from the enclosure – it can cause a short circuit.
    • Drill the hole to the thread outer diameter of 15.2 mm – in an oversized hole the seal is not guaranteed.
    • Tighten the nut until the cable no longer moves in the seal; overtightening can damage the plastic thread.
    • Route the cable from below or with a drip loop so water does not run along it to the gland.

    Quick selection guide

    PG9 thread (Ø 15.2 mm)
    Cable Ø4–8 mm
    IP67, −40…+85 °C
    Grey, polyamide
    Suitable when you need:
    • to bring in a flexible equipment power lead (Ø4–8 mm)
    • for the entry to match a grey box or panel
    • to protect the entry against rain, dust and splashes
    Check before use:
    • The cable outer diameter with a caliper – it must be 4–8 mm.
    • The opening type: threaded PG9 or plain Ø 15.2 mm hole (then a lock nut is needed).
    • Whether the entry will be in direct sunlight – UV resistance is not stated in our data.
Important reminder: The gland seals and holds one cable, but it is not a fire barrier and does not replace an IP68 gland where the entry is permanently under water.

    FAQ

What cable size does PG-09 fit?
A cable with an outer diameter of 4–8 mm – measure the sheath, not the conductor cross-section in mm².
    Will PG9 fit a 3×1.5 mm² lead?
Often yes, if the outer diameter of the lead does not exceed 8 mm – measure the sheath with a caliper; for a thicker one choose PG-11 / PG-11B.
Is PG-09 suitable for permanent operation under water?
No – IP67 is for temporary immersion; for permanent immersion choose IP68 00827 (PG9, Ø4–8 mm).
What opening does a PG9 gland need?
A threaded PG9 opening or a plain hole matching the 15.2 mm thread outer diameter, with a lock nut on the inside.
How does PG-09 differ from PG-09B?
Only in colour: PG-09 is grey, PG-09B is black; thread, range, IP67 and operating temperature are the same.
Can two wires be passed through one gland?
No – the seal only closes around one round cable; use a separate gland for each cable.
