  • LOTO safety padlock | Ø6 mm shackle, 39 mm | 12-pin cylinder | key retained when open | yellow | ES-BLJ-Y38

Personal LOTO safety padlock for locking out isolating devices during repair, commissioning or maintenance. Nylon body, Ø6 mm steel shackle and a 12-pin cylinder with laser marking. Yellow is clearly visible in poor lighting, so it is often assigned to mechanics, contractors or temporary workers – according to the procedure set by the company.

    Main idea:
As long as your padlock hangs on the disconnector or lockout hasp, nobody can switch the equipment on. The padlock cannot be closed in the wrong position, and the key cannot be removed while it is open – so it is never left “half-locked”.
    Shackle
    Ø6 mm, height 39 mm
    Cylinder
    12 pins, >40,000 combinations
    Key
cannot be removed while the padlock is open

    Operating principle

The equipment is isolated with a power isolating device (disconnector, switch, damper), and a personal padlock is placed on its lockout point or on a lockout hasp.

Pressing the shackle in locks the padlock. The side-rotation mechanism prevents the shackle from being closed in the wrong position, and the key can only be removed once the padlock is locked.

The worker keeps the key – the equipment cannot be switched on until the worker removes their own padlock.

What are the benefits of this LOTO padlock?
It is a personal, easily recognisable worker’s padlock: the laser-marked body and key, the individual cylinder and the yellow colour make it immediately clear who has locked the equipment.

    Key functions

    • Personal padlock – only the worker who applied it can unlock the equipment.
    • Key retaining – the key cannot be removed while the padlock is open, so it does not get lost and the padlock is never left unlocked.
    • Side-rotation mechanism – the shackle cannot be closed in the wrong position.
    • Laser marking – the number does not wear off; the padlock and key are easy to assign to a worker.
    • 12-pin cylinder – more than 40,000 combinations, another key will not fit.
    • Yellow colour – colour coding by department or shift.

    Where is it used?

    • Electrical distribution boards and disconnectors
    • Motor starting equipment and control cabinets
    • Substation and switchgear equipment during isolation
    • Production lines, conveyors, presses
    • Compressor rooms, pump stations, boiler rooms
    • Valve and plug lockouts together with LOTO accessories
    • Lockout hasps for group lockout

    Use by need

    For the power engineer.
Clear control: isolated equipment cannot be switched on while a worker’s padlock hangs on it.
    For the safety engineer.
A colour-coded, marked personal padlock – the basis of the LOTO procedure and worker accountability.
    For the electrician.
Your own padlock and the key in your pocket – a guarantee that nobody will switch the voltage on while you work.

    Practical use

If several electricians are replacing a disconnector in a distribution board, the disconnector is switched off, a lockout hasp is placed on it and each electrician attaches their own padlock. The equipment can be switched on again only when the last worker removes their padlock.

    Pros

    • Key cannot be removed while the padlock is open
    • Protection against incorrect locking
    • Laser marking on the body and key
    • 12-pin cylinder, >40,000 combinations
    • Lightweight, bright colour, suits a colour-coding system
    • Fits lockout hasps and lockouts with Ø6 mm holes

    Cons / limitations

    • Designed for work safety, not for theft protection
    • The shackle is made of steel and conducts electricity – do not hang it near live parts
    • Effective only when the company’s LOTO procedure is followed
    • If the key is lost, the padlock has to be replaced – keep keys responsibly

    Safety and installation notes

    • ⚡ Locked-out equipment does not mean there is no voltage – before touching, verify the absence of voltage with a voltage detector.
    • Lock the power isolating device, not the control button or “STOP”.
    • Each worker hangs only their own padlock and removes only their own padlock.
    • Together with the padlock, hang a LOTO tag with the name, date and reason.
    • Do not hand the key over to another person and do not leave it at the workplace.
The Lithuanian Rules for Safety When Operating Electrical Installations (item 80/81) require measures to ensure that disconnected equipment cannot be switched on automatically or by mistake (item 80). A personal LOTO safety padlock is a practical way to meet this requirement. The sign “Do not switch on! Work in progress” („Nejungti! Įrenginiuose dirbama“) is also hung on the device (item 81).
