  • Hybrid video recorder (DVR) | 16 channels Turbo HD + 8 IP | 8 MP | 2 HDD up to 10 TB | H.265+ | AcuSense | Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/S(C)

The Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/S(C) is a hybrid 16-channel digital video recorder (DVR) that records both coax cameras (HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI, CVBS) and IP cameras in one unit. It is designed for sites with existing coax cabling that need upgrading and expanding.

    Key point:
No need to replace old cables: new Turbo HD cameras up to 8 MP plug into the same BNC inputs, while IP cameras fill the gaps (8 channels, up to 32 in Enhanced IP mode). AcuSense Motion Detection 2.0 on all analogue channels distinguishes people and vehicles, so recordings and alerts are no longer cluttered by shadows or leaves.
    Channels
    16 analogue + 8 IP (up to 32)
    Max resolution
    8 MP (HD-TVI / HD-CVI)
    Storage
    2 × SATA up to 10 TB
    Connectivity
    RJ45 1 Gbps, Hik-Connect, ONVIF

    Connectivity and integration

    • 16 BNC inputs (HD-TVI / AHD / HD-CVI / CVBS) – Automatically detects the camera signal type – different analogue technologies can be mixed; coaxitron control supported.
    • IP channels and ONVIF – 8 IP cameras (up to 24, up to 32 in Enhanced IP mode), each up to 8 MP and 4 Mbps; third-party cameras via ONVIF – check compatibility before buying.
    • Hik-Connect app – Live view, recordings and AcuSense alerts on your phone; DDNS also available.
    • RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbps – Gigabit network port, up to 128 Mbps outgoing bandwidth and 128 remote connections; Wi-Fi via a compatible USB dongle.
    • 4K HDMI / VGA / CVBS – Monitor via HDMI up to 3840 × 2160, VGA up to 1920 × 1080 simultaneously, plus a CVBS output.
    • RS-485 and audio – RS-485 for control, 1 RCA audio input / output, two-way audio and up to 16 audio channels over coax.

    How it works

Place the DVR in a dry, ventilated cabinet and install 1–2 SATA drives (up to 10 TB each). Existing coax cables connect to the 16 BNC inputs, IP cameras via a network switch; power is 12 V DC 5 A.

The unit detects each analogue camera's signal, compresses video with H.265 Pro+ and records continuously or on events. Motion Detection 2.0 classifies people and vehicles on all analogue channels; perimeter protection can run on up to 4 channels.

You see up to 4K video on the monitor and Hik-Connect alerts on your phone, find recordings quickly by object or event type and play back up to 16 channels at once.

    Why choose the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/S(C)?
It lets you modernise a 16-camera analogue system without recabling: replace the DVR, gradually swap cameras for 4–8 MP Turbo HD and cover new areas with IP cameras – one system, one app.

    Key functions

    • AcuSense Motion Detection 2.0 – human and vehicle classification on all analogue channels, fewer false alarms.
    • Perimeter protection – line crossing and intrusion with human / vehicle analysis on up to 4 channels.
    • Face detection and capture – face picture search in the archive.
    • Five technologies – HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI, CVBS and IP in one unit.
    • H.265 Pro+ – lower bitrate and a longer archive on the same drives.
    • Quick search – recordings filtered by object or event type.
    • Audio over coax – up to 16 audio channels without extra wiring with Turbo HD cameras that have a microphone.

How does it differ from similar models?

    • Hikvision DS-7616NXI-K1(D) (NVR, €246.70) – 16 channels, but IP cameras only; suits a new system with UTP cabling, not coax.
    • Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P (NVR, €322.19) – 8 IP channels with 8 built-in PoE ports – simpler new IP installation, but no analogue cameras.
    • Dahua NVR4104HS-4KS3 (NVR, €105.52) – 4 IP channels up to 12 MP, 1 HDD – for a small new IP system.
    • IMOU NVR1108HS-W-S2 / NVR-N118W-8A0E (8–18 ch) – Wi-Fi NVRs for homes with IMOU cameras; do not support analogue or wired professional systems.

    Where is it used?

    • Upgrading an old coax system without recabling
    • Production hall or warehouse with 10–16 cameras
    • Apartment block yard, stairwells and underground garage
    • Shopping centre or retail chain branch
    • Petrol station or car wash
    • School or sports complex
    • Farm or large private estate with long cable runs
    • Mixed system: old analogue points + new IP cameras

    Use by need

For a residents' association with old cameras.
Existing coax cables stay; only the DVR and, gradually, the cameras are replaced.
For a warehouse manager plagued by false alarms.
Motion Detection 2.0 filters recordings and alerts by people and vehicles on all 16 analogue channels.
    For installers servicing mixed systems.
One unit accepts HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI, CVBS and IP cameras – no need for two recorders.

    Practical use

If a warehouse runs 12 old analogue cameras on coax and the new gate needs 3 more cameras, replace the old DVR with the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/S(C): connect the existing cameras to the BNC inputs, install 3 IP cameras at the gate via a switch, fit two drives up to 10 TB and enable perimeter protection on 4 channels along the fence – all video in one Hik-Connect account.

    Pros

    • 16 analogue + 8 IP channels (up to 32 in Enhanced IP mode)
    • HD-TVI / HD-CVI up to 8 MP, AHD up to 5 MP, CVBS
    • 2 SATA drives up to 10 TB each
    • AcuSense human and vehicle classification on all analogue channels
    • 4K HDMI, VGA and CVBS outputs
    • Gigabit RJ45, USB 3.0, RS-485
    • Audio over coax on up to 16 channels

    Cons / limitations

    • 8 MP analogue recording runs at only 8 fps; for smoother video choose 4 MP@15 fps or 1080p@25 fps.
    • Motion Detection 2.0 and perimeter protection cannot run at the same time – you must choose.
    • No alarm inputs / outputs in the standard version.
    • For a new system without coax an NVR is more sensible, e.g. DS-7616NXI-K1(D) or DS-7608NXI-K1/8P with PoE.
    • Larger and heavier housing (380 × 320 × 48 mm) than compact NVRs.

    Safety and installation notes

    • Place the DVR in a dry, ventilated location; operating temperature -10…+55 °C.
    • Install drives only with the power disconnected.
    • Use a UPS and surge protection; add lightning protection on long outdoor coax runs.
    • Change the default password, update the firmware regularly and use Hik-Connect only with a strong password.
    • GDPR: set a recording retention period, restrict access and use face detection only on a lawful basis.

    Quick selection guide

    16 analogue + 8 IP
    up to 8 MP
2 HDD up to 10 TB
    AcuSense
    Suitable when you need:
    • to upgrade an analogue system without recabling
    • to combine analogue and IP cameras in one system
    • to filter alarms by people and vehicles
    Check before use:
    • what type your analogue cameras are (HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI or CVBS) and their resolution
    • whether an HDD is included and how much storage you need
    • whether you need alarm inputs / outputs
Important reminder: The DVR does not power the cameras and does not replace an intruder alarm – it records, analyses and displays video.
