Mechanical Panel Hygrostat for DIN Rail | 10–90 % RH | 110–250 V AC | 10 (5) A | IP20 | Plastim PHG02
Plastim PHG02 is a mechanical hygrostat mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail inside an electrical enclosure. It senses the relative humidity of the air in the cabinet and switches a contact when the set limit is reached – usually to turn on an enclosure heater or fan. The sensing element is a polyamide strip that changes length with humidity. Setting range is 10–90 % RH, supply / switching voltage 110–250 V AC.
Key idea:
Condensation in an enclosure is not only a winter problem – day-night temperature swings are enough. The hygrostat switches the heater on only when humidity really exceeds the limit, so the heater does not run for nothing and contacts, terminals and electronics stay dry. The mechanical principle is simple: no electronics to power or configure.Setting range

Inside the hygrostat a polyamide strip is tensioned. As relative humidity rises, the strip lengthens; as it falls, the strip shortens. This mechanical movement operates a microswitch through a lever.
The limit is set with a knob (black potentiometer) on a scale from 10 to 90 % RH. The switching differential is about 5 % RH (max. 10 %), so the contact does not chatter right at the limit.
Connection is via a 3-pole terminal (common, normally closed, normally open contact). The heater or fan is connected to the contact that closes when humidity rises; the other contact can be used for signalling.
Why use a hygrostat in an enclosure?
It controls the heater according to actual humidity, not a timer or temperature alone. This reduces the risk of corrosion, leakage currents and electronic failures in outdoor cabinets, pumping stations, farm buildings and other damp locations.Technical specifications

- Humidity limit setting 10–90 % RH – suitable for dry as well as very damp locations.
- Changeover contact – switch a heater on, or switch equipment off, when humidity rises.
- Mechanical sensor – no auxiliary supply for electronics, no programming.
- Differential approx. 5 % RH – stable switching without frequent chatter.
- Wide voltage 110–250 V AC – the same model fits a 230 V AC network.
- 3-pole terminal 0.75–4.0 mm² – easy to connect both thin and heavier wires.
- DIN rail mounting – sits next to circuit breakers, no extra brackets.
How does it differ from similar products?
Enclosure thermostat A thermostat reacts to temperature, a hygrostat to relative humidity. Both are often used together to control condensation. Electronic hygrostat / thermo-hygrostat An electronic unit has a more accurate sensor and often a display, but needs a supply. PHG02 is a simple mechanical solution without electronics. Humidity sensor with analogue output A 0–10 V / 4–20 mA sensor passes the measurement to a controller. A hygrostat switches the contact itself, no controller needed. Where is it used?
- Outdoor electrical cabinets and metering enclosures
- Control panels of pumping stations, boiler rooms and heat substations
- Telecom and security system cabinets
- Automation panels in farm buildings and warehouses
- Ventilation unit control cabinets
- Combiner boxes of solar plants and charging stations
Use by need
Beginner.
Start with a 60–70 % RH limit: when humidity rises above it, the hygrostat switches on the enclosure heater.Experienced installer.
Connect the hygrostat in series or in parallel with a thermostat – the heater will run both in cold and in damp conditions.Power engineer / designer.
Consider the load type: for inductive loads use the lower current value (5 A); for higher power use a contactor.Practical use
In an outdoor metering cabinet, dew forms on terminals in autumn. An enclosure heater and a PHG02 hygrostat set to 65 % RH are installed. When humidity rises at night, the hygrostat switches on the heater, the air warms up, relative humidity drops and the heater switches off – energy is used only when needed.Pros / advantages
- Simple mechanical operation without electronics
- Wide setting range 10–90 % RH
- Changeover contact – flexible wiring schemes
- Suitable for 110–250 V AC networks
- Compact, DIN rail mounting
- Terminals for wires up to 4.0 mm²
Cons / limitations
- Operating temperature from +10 °C – in an unheated cabinet in winter it runs outside the manufacturer's range
- Mechanical sensor is less accurate than electronic, no readout
- IP20 – only inside an enclosure, not in open environment
- Higher or inductive loads require an intermediate contactor
Safety and installation notes
- ⚡ The hygrostat is connected to a 230 V AC circuit – installation by a qualified electrician only.
- ⚡ Disconnect the supply before mounting or wiring and verify that no voltage is present.
- Protect the circuit with a suitable circuit breaker according to load and wire cross-section.
- Mount in the lower or middle part of the enclosure, away from the heater – otherwise the sensor measures warmed air.
- Do not obstruct air circulation around the hygrostat, do not cover it with cable ducts.
- Check the terminal marking on the housing (COM / NC / NO) before wiring.
Quick selection guide
10–90 % RH110–250 V AC10 (5) ADIN 35 mmSuitable when you need:- to protect an enclosure against condensation and corrosion
- to control an enclosure heater or fan by humidity
- a simple solution without programming
- DIN rail mounting
Check before choosing:- load current and type (resistive or inductive)
- minimum temperature in the enclosure – manufacturer states from +10 °C
- whether a thermostat is also needed for temperature control
- space on the DIN rail – width 54 mm
Important reminder: The hygrostat does not heat or dry by itself – it only controls a heater or fan. Without a heater the enclosure is not protected against condensation.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- Enclosure heaters – the hygrostat controls the heater that actually removes moisture.
- Thermostats – together with the hygrostat they also protect the enclosure from cold.
- Contactors and relays – when heater or fan current exceeds the contact rating.

FAQ
What humidity limit should be set in an enclosure?
Usually 60–70 % RH. Higher humidity increases the risk of condensation on cold surfaces. What does the 10 (5) A rating mean?
It is the manufacturer's current rating: the higher value applies to resistive load, the value in brackets to inductive load. For fans and motors count 5 A.Can the hygrostat be combined with a thermostat?
Yes. A common scheme is a hygrostat and thermostat controlling the same heater so it switches on in damp or cold conditions. Is PHG02 suitable for an unheated outdoor cabinet in winter?
The manufacturer states an operating temperature from +10 °C. In a cold cabinet combine it with a thermostat and heater so the temperature does not drop below that.Does the hygrostat need a separate supply?
No. It is mechanical – the contact is switched by the movement of the sensing strip, no electronics to power.Where should the hygrostat be mounted in the enclosure?
In the lower or middle part, away from the heater and other heat sources, so it measures the real humidity of the enclosure air.Sources: Plastim Elektrik (Turkey) PHG02 product page; distributor data on the contact. Checked 2026-10-18.
