    Code: SOU-1/UNI

    DIN rail twilight switch with universal 12–240 V AC/DC supply and external sensor: 1–50,000 lx, 1CO 16 A AC1, 0–2 min delay, 1 module.

  • Modular photo relay with external sensor | 16 A | 1–100 lx | VEXEN TWR1

SOU-1/UNI is a twilight switch that switches its output according to real illuminance and can be supplied with any voltage from 12 to 240 V – AC or DC. The relay is mounted in the panel on a DIN rail (1 module), while light is measured by an external sensor mounted outdoors on a wall. Two ranges – 1–100 lx and 100–50,000 lx.

    Key point:
The universal supply lets you use the same relay where 230 V AC is not available or the control circuit is low voltage: in 12 V and 24 V DC systems, solar and battery installations, and automation panels with a 24 V supply. The 1CO contact switches up to 16 A AC1 or up to 384 W at 24 V DC.
    Supply
    12–240 V AC/DC
    Sensitivity
    1–50,000 lx (2 ranges)
    Output
    1CO, 16 A AC1
    Delay
    0–2 min, adjustable
    Mounting
    1 module, DIN rail

    Operating principle

The external sensor continuously measures illuminance. When light falls below the set threshold, the relay switches output contact 15–16–18 and turns the load on; when light rises above the threshold plus hysteresis, the contact returns to its initial position.

A selector chooses range LUX1 (1–100 lx) or LUX2 (100–50,000 lx), and the exact threshold is set with a knob. The 0–2 min delay prevents the relay from reacting to car headlights or a passing cloud.

Input S is used for additional control, e.g. a timer blocking the lighting at night. In the TEST position the output is forced on – this checks the load connection. A green LED shows supply, a red LED shows an active output.

    Why 12–240 V AC/DC?
Farmsteads with solar panels and batteries, garden houses, campsites, telecom and security cabinets often have only 12 V or 24 V DC. An ordinary 230 V AC photo relay will not work there, while the UNI version is supplied directly from the same system and controls, e.g., 12/24 V LED lighting without a converter.

    Main functions

    • Universal supply 12–240 V AC/DC – one relay for 12 V, 24 V, 48 V and 230 V circuits.
    • Two sensitivity ranges – 1–100 lx for dusk and 100–50,000 lx for daylight.
    • 1CO changeover contact – a circuit can be switched on at dusk or during daylight.
    • Adjustable delay 0–2 min – short light changes do not switch the output.
    • Input S and TEST position – blocking by a timer and a quick load check.
    • Sensor cable up to 50 m – the sensor can be mounted far from the panel.

How does it differ from similar models?

    • Eti SOU-1 – The same function and ranges, but 230 V AC supply only; IP65 sensor included.
    • VEXEN VSOU-1 – 1–50,000 lx, 1CO 16 A and input S, 230 V AC supply, IP56 sensor.
    • VEXEN TWR1 – 110–240 V AC supply (no DC), 1–100 lx only and a 1NO contact – for simple outdoor lighting.
    • ES-TS01 – AC 24–264 V supply, 16 A, 1NO – a wide voltage range, but AC only; not suitable for DC systems.

    Where is it used?

    • Farmsteads and garden houses with solar panels and batteries
    • 12/24 V DC LED lighting for yards, paths and signs
    • Automation panels with a 24 V AC/DC control circuit
    • Telecom, security and CCTV cabinets
    • Standard 230 V outdoor lighting – when one model is wanted for all sites
    • Control of blinds and shading by daylight

    Use by need

    For the electrician.
One model in stock instead of several – suitable for 12 V, 24 V and 230 V sites, no need to pick a relay by control voltage.
For the farmstead or garden house owner.
12/24 V LED lighting of a solar system switches on at dusk without a converter or an additional 230 V grid.
For the company or farm manager.
In automation panels with 24 V control the relay is connected directly to the existing supply – a simpler circuit and fewer devices.

    Practical use

If a garden house has a 24 V DC solar system with a battery and the path LED luminaires (about 100 W) must light up at dusk, supply SOU-1/UNI directly from 24 V DC. Fix the sensor on the north wall, select LUX1, a threshold of about 10 lx and a delay of about 1 min. Connect the luminaires via contact 15–18. At 24 V DC a 100 W load draws about 4.2 A, well below the 384 W DC limit.

    Pros

    • Universal supply 12–240 V AC/DC
    • Wide range 1–50,000 lx (two sub-ranges)
    • 1CO changeover contact 16 A AC1, up to 384 W DC
    • Adjustable delay 0–2 min
    • Input S and TEST position
    • Only 1 module on the DIN rail

    Cons / limitations

    • The contact switches DC voltage up to 24 V DC only; for higher DC voltage loads use an interposing relay or a contactor
    • 16 A is rated for AC1 (resistive) load – for LED drivers with high inrush current use a modular contactor
    • No built-in timer – night-time switch-off requires a timer on input S

    ⚠ Safety and installation notes

    • Mount the sensor where daylight reaches it but the controlled luminaires do not – otherwise the relay will start switching itself off.
    • The relay housing is intended for a panel (IP40 from the front, IP20 terminals) – only the sensor is installed outdoors.
    • In the UNI version, illuminated push buttons (with glow lamps) must not be connected to input S.
    • In DC circuits observe the 24 V DC switching voltage limit and protect the circuit with a DC fuse or circuit breaker.
    • Sensor cable up to 50 m; do not route it together with power cables.
    • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician after disconnecting and verifying the absence of voltage.

    Quick selection guide

    12–240 V AC/DC
    1–50,000 lx
    1CO 16 A AC1
    1 DIN module
    Suitable when you need to:
    • a photo relay for a 12 V or 24 V AC/DC system, a solar or battery installation;
    • one model for sites with different control voltages;
    • a changeover contact and control both at dusk and by daylight.
    Check before use:
    • the supply voltage and whether the controlled DC load stays within 24 V DC / 384 W;
    • load type and inrush current (LED – via a contactor);
    • where the sensor will be mounted and whether the cable stays within 50 m.
Important reminder: a photo relay controls lighting by light level, but it does not replace protective devices; in DC circuits use fuses or circuit breakers rated for DC.

    FAQ

Can the relay be supplied from a 12 V battery?
    Yes – the supply range is 12–240 V AC/DC with −15 % tolerance, so 12 V and 24 V DC systems are suitable.
Can the contact switch 12/24 V DC LED lighting?
Yes, up to 24 V DC and 384 W. For higher power or higher DC voltage use a contactor or an interposing relay.
Is it suitable for standard 230 V lighting?
Yes – the relay also runs on 230 V AC, and the contact switches up to 16 A AC1.
    Which range should I choose?
    For outdoor lighting – LUX1 (1–100 lx); for blinds and daylight-based control – LUX2 (100–50,000 lx).
What does IP20 in product names mean?
It is the protection of the relay terminals in the panel (front panel – IP40). Only the external sensor is installed outdoors.
How far can the sensor be?
Up to 50 m from the relay, using a standard wire.
