The device is intended for electrical systems in which energy may flow in both directions. It allows energy drawn from the grid and energy exported to the grid to be monitored separately.
Imported energy
Electrical energy drawn by the facility from the public grid when local solar generation is insufficient for the current load.
Exported energy
Surplus energy generated by the solar power system that is not consumed on site and is fed back into the public electricity grid.
Why is bidirectional metering important?
A bidirectional meter distinguishes energy drawn from the grid from energy exported to the grid. This provides more information about solar generation, on-site consumption and the overall energy balance of the facility.Real-time monitoring of electrical parameters
The device operates as a three-phase energy meter and network parameter analyser. The main electrical system indicators can be monitored on the LCD screen and in the mobile app.
- Voltage – for monitoring the voltage condition of the three-phase electrical network.
- Current – for analysing phase load and current changes.
- Active power – for evaluating actual electrical power consumption.
- Reactive power – for analysing inductive and capacitive loads.
- Power factor – for evaluating the PF value and electrical system efficiency.
- Frequency – for monitoring the mains frequency in Hz.
- Electrical energy – for measuring kWh consumption and generation.
- Energy flow direction – for distinguishing imported and exported energy.
Wi-Fi and Tuya Smart control
The integrated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi module allows the meter to be connected to the Tuya ecosystem and electrical system data to be monitored using a smartphone.

Timers and smart scenariosUsing the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, energy data can be monitored remotely, fault alerts can be received and an external switching device connected to the meter’s signal output can be controlled.
Important information about remote switching:
A high-power three-phase load cannot be switched directly by the meter’s signal contact. A properly selected contactor, a circuit breaker with a shunt trip or another suitable actuator must be used for remote or automatic load disconnection.Technical specifications

Protection functions
The device monitors electrical network parameters and can initiate disconnection of an external switching device when a dangerous or impermissible electrical system parameter is detected.
- Overvoltage protection – response when the voltage exceeds the set limit.
- Undervoltage protection – response when the voltage falls below the set limit.
- Overcurrent protection – response when the current exceeds the set value.
- Phase-loss protection – response when one phase of the three-phase network is lost.
- Leakage current protection – using an additional residual current transformer.
Protection functions do not replace mandatory protective devices:
This energy meter does not replace a properly selected circuit breaker, fuses, RCD, RCBO, surge protective device or other electrical protective equipment required by the design. It is used as an additional component of a measurement, monitoring, signalling and external control system.Additional connected components
Additional external components are used for certain measurement and protective disconnection functions.
- Three-phase split-core current transformers – for current measurement according to the supplied wiring diagram.
- Residual current transformer – for monitoring electrical leakage current.
- Circuit breaker with 230V shunt trip – for automatic disconnection of the power supply.
- Contactor – for switching the load on or off according to the command from the meter’s signal contact.
Not included:
Three-phase split-core current transformers, a residual current transformer, circuit breaker, contactor and 230V shunt trip are not included in the standard package. If these components are required for the selected wiring configuration, they must be purchased separately.Purpose of terminals 15 and 16
Terminal 15 Common relay contact – COM Terminal 16 Normally open relay contact – NO Maximum contact load Up to 5A Purpose Control signal to a shunt trip, contactor coil or another compatible actuator The contact is not intended to switch a 100A three-phase load directly:
Terminals 15-16 are a relay signal output. A high-power three-phase load must be disconnected using a properly selected contactor, a circuit breaker with a shunt trip or another suitable switching device.Shunt trip connection principle
When using a three-phase circuit breaker with an integrated 230V shunt trip, the meter’s signal contact may be used in the shunt trip control circuit.
One wire of the shunt trip is connected to phase C on the output side of the circuit breaker, while the control circuit is formed through the meter’s COM and NO contacts.
The exact wiring diagram must be checked against the diagrams provided by the manufacturers of the energy meter, circuit breaker and shunt trip.
Critical connection requirement:
The shunt trip wire must be connected to the circuit breaker’s output side, not its input side. An incorrectly connected shunt trip may remain continuously energised, overheat or fail.Where is it used?
- In solar power systems – for monitoring energy import and export.
- In commercial buildings – for analysing total or individual circuit energy consumption.
- In manufacturing facilities – for monitoring the loads of equipment, workshops and production lines.
- In distribution boards – for measuring three-phase network parameters and electrical energy.
- In energy management systems – for remote data monitoring and analysis.
- In offices, shops and warehouses – for controlling electricity consumption.
- In EV charging and energy storage systems – for monitoring energy flows and loads.
- In smart IoT projects – for transmitting electrical data to the Tuya ecosystem.
Practical application example
For example, a commercial building has a three-phase 3P+N solar power system installed. During the day, part of the solar energy is consumed on site, while surplus energy is exported to the public electricity grid.
The bidirectional energy meter records energy in both directions and displays voltage, current, power, frequency and power factor. The data is transmitted via Wi-Fi to the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app.
The person responsible for the facility can monitor the current load on a phone, review historical energy data and receive notifications when set limits are exceeded. When an external contactor or circuit breaker with a shunt trip is connected, the meter can initiate disconnection of the power supply.
Use according to requirements
For a solar power system owner: allows energy drawn from the grid and surplus energy exported to the grid to be viewed.
For an energy specialist: provides information about phase load, voltage, current, power factor and the overall energy balance.
For a manufacturing company manager: helps remotely monitor energy consumption and analyse load changes.
For an automation designer: allows measurement data, notifications and the signal output to be integrated into a wider control system.
For an installer: the supplied wiring diagram must be followed, current and residual current transformers must be installed correctly and the external disconnection device must be connected properly.
