Modular three-phase energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | 1 tariff | S0 pulse output | MID | DIN | VEXEN ESM3100D
The VEXEN ESM3100D is a modular three-phase energy meter for direct connection in 4-wire 3×230/400 V networks up to 100 A. It is designed for active energy metering in distribution boards: apartments, houses, commercial premises and individual sub-circuits.
Key point:
This is the simplest model of the VEXEN three-phase line: one tariff, a kWh register and an S0 pulse output. It is MID certified (EU-type examination certificate 0120/SGS0432), so it is also suitable for billing between landlord and tenant. If you do not need remote reading via Modbus or network parameter analysis, it is the most rational choice.Max. current

For the basic ESM3100D version the manufacturer specifies active energy (kWh) metering only; separate import and export registers are described only for the DBi version. If consumed and exported energy must be seen separately, choose the ESM3100DM (RS485 Modbus, import / export).Communication interfaces and integration
S0 pulse output
1000 imp/kWh – pulses are sent to a PLC, data logger, BMS or smart home controller with a pulse input. This allows remote consumption counting without a digital bus.No digital interface
This model has no RS485 Modbus or M-Bus. If you need to read values over a bus, choose the ESM3100DM (Modbus) or ESM3100DMB (M-Bus).Operating principle
The meter is mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail and connected directly to 3 phases and neutral (L1, L2, L3, N) – no current transformers are needed up to 100 A.
The electronic measuring circuit counts active energy in all three phases; the test LED and the pulse output give 1000 pulses per 1 kWh.
Total energy is shown on a white backlit LCD, and the pulse signal can be passed to an external metering or control system.
Why choose the VEXEN ESM3100D?
It handles the most common task – counting a three-phase consumer's kWh reliably and legally (MID) without extra configuration. The compact 72 mm housing fits a standard modular board, and the S0 output lets you add simple remote metering later.Technical specifications

- Direct connection up to 100 A – no current transformers and no cost of installing them.
- MID certificate – readings can be used for billing between parties (rental, sub-metering).
- Class B / class 1 – accuracy to EN 50470-3 and IEC 62053-21.
- S0 pulse output 1000 imp/kWh – simple integration into a PLC, BMS or data logger.
- Backlit LCD – easy to read in a dark enclosure.
- 72 mm DIN housing – takes 4 modules and fits a standard board.
How does it differ from similar models?
VEXEN ESM3100DM Has RS485 Modbus RTU and separate import / export metering; the ESM3100D offers kWh and a pulse output only. VEXEN ESM3100DM2T Multifunction (V, A, kW, kVAr, PF, THD), 2 tariffs and Modbus; the ESM3100D is a basic single-tariff kWh meter. Ollo 3P-351 / ESTXM302 Also simple 100 A modular meters without interfaces; the ESM3100D stands out with its MID certificate. THORGEON 01007 80 A, 2 tariffs, RS485 Modbus, MID; the ESM3100D has a higher 100 A limit but 1 tariff and no Modbus. Where is it used?
- Check metering of three-phase supplies in apartments and houses
- Rented premises and sub-tenant metering
- Commercial premises, offices, shops
- Workshops and small production halls
- Metering of heat pumps, boilers and other three-phase loads
- EV charging points (kWh metering)
- Temporary construction site boards
- Agricultural buildings and warehouses
Use by need
Landlords.
MID readings allow electricity to be recharged to tenants on a sound basis.Electricians.
Fast direct installation without CTs or extra configuration.Facility managers.
S0 pulses are an easy way to feed data into an existing system.Practical application
If a three-phase tenant circuit up to 100 A in an apartment block basement or business centre must be metered separately and billed periodically, the ESM3100D is installed in the board after the tenant's protective device, and readings are taken from the display or pulses are passed to the building's data logger.Pros
- MID certificate and class B to EN 50470-3
- Direct connection up to 100 A
- S0 pulse output 1000 imp/kWh
- Backlit LCD display
- Compact 4-module DIN housing
- Wide operating temperature range −25…+55 °C
Cons / limitations
- No RS485 Modbus or M-Bus – for remote digital reading choose the ESM3100DM or ESM3100DMB
- Only 1 tariff – for dual-tariff metering choose the ESM3100DM2T
- Does not measure voltage, current or power factor – the ESM3100DM2T does
- The manufacturer does not specify separate import / export metering for this version – the ESM3100DM has it
- Currents above 100 A require a CT meter (ES3100DCT)
Safety and installation notes
- Installation and wiring must be done by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated and verified dead.
- Install an upstream protective device (MCB or fuses) sized to the cable cross-section and load – the meter is not a protective device.
- Follow the phase and neutral wiring diagram in the manufacturer's manual; swapped inputs and outputs distort the readings.
- Tighten the power terminals to the specified torque – a loose contact at 100 A overheats and can damage the meter.
- Do not break the seals or open the front cover – this affects the measurement and, according to the manufacturer's manual, voids the warranty.
Quick selection guide
100 A directMID class B1 tariffS0 1000 imp/kWhSuitable when you need:- legal (MID) three-phase kWh metering up to 100 A
- a simple meter with no configuration
- a pulse signal to a PLC or data logger
Check before use:- that the circuit current does not exceed 100 A
- that the network is 4-wire 3×230/400 V
- that there is room for 4 modules in the board
Important reminder: The meter only measures energy – it does not protect against overload, short circuit or residual current and does not replace the grid operator's billing meter without the operator's consent.FAQ
