  • Modular three-phase multifunction energy meter | 100 A | 3×230/400 V | 2 tariffs | M-Bus | MID | DIN | VEXEN ESM3100DMB2T

The VEXEN ESM3100DMB2T is a modular three-phase multifunction energy meter for direct connection in 3×230/400 V networks up to 100 A with M-Bus interface and 2 tariffs. It is designed for metering and network parameter monitoring in boards where data must be passed over an M-Bus network.

    Key point:
In addition to kWh and kVArh the meter shows voltage, current, power, power factor, frequency and THD, so one device replaces both a meter and a simple network analyser. It is MID certified (EU-type examination certificate 0120/SGS0448). The two tariffs switch automatically according to the power source – e.g. when the grid fails and a generator starts, energy is counted in tariff 2.

The manufacturer's documentation lists the measured values as kWh / kVArh, but separate import and export (consumed and delivered) energy registers are not explicitly named. If energy exported to the grid must be measured separately, confirm the register list before ordering; the confirmed import / export meter in this line is the ESM3100DM.

    Communication interfaces and integration

    M-Bus (EN 13757-3)
Integration into an M-Bus automatic meter reading (AMR) system together with heat and water meters; primary (001–250) and secondary addressing, 300–9600 bps.
    2 pulse outputs
Passive outputs for active and reactive energy – for pulse counters, PLCs or data loggers without a digital bus.
    For RS485 Modbus RTU systems
The manufacturer designates this model as the M-Bus version; for RS485 Modbus RTU integration choose the ESM3100DM2T.

    Operating principle

The meter is mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail and the phase conductors are connected directly (power terminals 4–25 mm²) – no current transformers are needed up to 100 A.

The electronic circuit measures the voltage and current of all phases and calculates power, energy and quality values; tariff 1 or 2 is selected automatically according to the power source.

Data are shown on the display and transmitted over M-Bus, while active and reactive energy pulses are sent via two passive pulse outputs.

    Why choose the VEXEN ESM3100DMB2T?
With one device you get MID energy metering plus remote visibility of load, phase voltages or THD. M-Bus lets the electricity meter share the same bus as heat and water meters. Dual-source tariffs separate grid and generator energy without extra automation.

    Main functions

    • M-Bus interface – remote reading of registers and parameters.
    • MID certificate – to EN 50470-1/-3, suitable for billing between parties.
    • Multifunction measurements – V, A, kW, kVAr, kVA, PF, Hz, THD and demand.
    • Direct connection up to 100 A – no current transformers.
    • 2 tariffs by power source – grid and generator counted separately.
    • 2 passive pulse outputs – for active and reactive energy, configurable constant.

How does it differ from similar models?

VEXEN ESM3100DM2T Same platform, 2 tariffs and 2 pulse outputs, but with RS485 Modbus RTU instead of M-Bus.
VEXEN ESM3100DMB Also M-Bus and multifunction, but without dual-source tariffs.
VEXEN ESM3100D Basic single-tariff kWh meter with MID, no digital interface and no multifunction measurements.
    Eastron SDM630MCT-2T 2 tariffs, Modbus, MID, but CT-connected (1/5 A); the ESM3100DMB2T connects directly up to 100 A.

    Where is it used?

    • Remote metering in commercial buildings and offices
    • Sub-metering of apartment blocks and rented premises in M-Bus systems
    • Building management systems (BMS)
    • Production halls and equipment energy monitoring
    • Sites with a standby generator
    • EV charging infrastructure
    • Energy audits and load analysis
    • Server rooms and technical rooms

    Use by need

    Facility managers.
The electricity meter is read over the same M-Bus as heat and water meters.
    Electricians and integrators.
Direct 100 A connection and a standard protocol – fewer components in the board.
    Energy managers.
Voltage, current, PF and THD help find overloaded phases and quality issues.

    Practical application

If a site has a standby generator and you need to know separately how much energy came from the grid and how much from the generator, the VEXEN ESM3100DMB2T is installed in the common feeder: when the grid fails the meter switches to tariff 2 automatically, and both registers are read over M-Bus.

    Pros

    • MID certificate (EN 50470-1/-3)
    • M-Bus interface
    • Multifunction measurements including THD
    • Direct connection up to 100 A
    • 2 tariffs by power source
    • 2 pulse outputs

    Cons / limitations

    • This is the M-Bus version – for Modbus RTU systems choose the ESM3100DM2T
    • Tariffs switch only by power source, not by time
    • Separate import / export registers are not named in the manufacturer's documentation – separate import / export metering is confirmed for the ESM3100DM
    • Currents above 100 A require a CT meter (ES3100DCT)

    Safety and installation notes

    • Installation and wiring must be done by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated and verified dead.
    • Install an upstream protective device (MCB or fuses) sized to the cable cross-section and load – the meter is not a protective device.
    • Follow the phase and neutral wiring diagram in the manufacturer's manual; swapped inputs and outputs distort the readings.
    • Tighten the power terminals to the specified torque – a loose contact at 100 A overheats and can damage the meter.
    • Do not break the seals or open the front cover – this affects the measurement and, according to the manufacturer's manual, voids the warranty.

    Quick selection guide

    100 A direct
    M-Bus
    2 tariffs
    MID
    Suitable when you need:
    • M-Bus remote reading
    • separate grid and generator metering
    • MID metering up to 100 A
    Check before use:
    • that the circuit current does not exceed 100 A
    • that the M-Bus master supports EN 13757-3
    • how the second power source will be connected
Important reminder: The meter measures and transmits data but performs no protective functions and does not replace the grid operator's billing meter without the operator's consent. Tariff switching depends on the power source, not on the time of day.
