Suggest yours! The electronic star–delta timer relay is designed to control the contactors used for starting three-phase electric motors. The relay automatically performs the starting sequence: it first energizes the star contactor, then disconnects it after the preset time, waits for the configured transfer delay, and finally energizes the delta contactor.
The star mode operating time is adjustable from 0.1 to 30 seconds, while the transfer delay between switching off the star contactor and switching on the delta contactor is adjustable from 1 to 500 milliseconds. ON, STAR, and DELTA LED indicators provide a clear visual indication of the power supply, star output, and delta output status.

Electronic star-delta timer relay | STAR-DELTA | 0.1–30 s | 1–500 ms | 230V AC / 24V AC/DC | 5A
Electronic star-delta timer relay is designed to control the starting contactors of a three-phase electric motor. The relay automatically creates the starting sequence: first the STAR output is activated, after the preset time it is switched off, a preset transition pause is observed, and then the DELTA output is activated.
The star operating time is adjustable from 0.1 to 30 seconds, while the transition pause between STAR switching off and DELTA switching on is adjustable from 1 to 500ms. Integrated ON, STAR and DELTA LED indicators allow the entire starting sequence to be visually monitored.
230V AC or 24V AC/DC supplyThe nominal supply to the relay via A1–A2 terminals is 230V AC. The manufacturer's specified overall operating voltage range Un is 150–260V AC. Alternatively, the relay can be powered with 24V AC/DC via A2–A3 terminals.
Important regarding applicationThis relay is not intended to switch the three-phase motor power circuit directly. The STAR and DELTA outputs are used to control the contactor coils. The motor power circuit must be switched through correctly selected main, star and delta contactors together with appropriate protective devices.

During the starting of a three-phase induction motor, its windings are initially connected in star. This reduces the voltage applied to each winding and therefore reduces the motor starting current, but the starting torque is also reduced.
Once the motor has accelerated, the star contactor is switched off. After a preset short transition pause, the delta contactor is switched on and the motor windings are reconnected into the normal delta operating configuration.
The timer relay automatically controls the switching sequence of these two contactors and helps ensure that the STAR and DELTA outputs are not active at the same time.
Automatic STAR-DELTA sequencePower applied → STAR output switched on → preset STAR time counted → STAR switched off → 1–500ms pause → DELTA output switched on → operating state until power is disconnected.
Operating sequence
Stage Relay operation 1. Power applied The ON indicator lights up and the starting sequence begins. 2. STAR active The star output is activated and the STAR LED turns on. 3. STAR time The preset 0.1–30s starting time is counted. 4. STAR switches off After the preset time has elapsed, the star output is disconnected. 5. Transition pause During the 1–500ms interval, both STAR and DELTA outputs are inactive. 6. DELTA active After the pause, the DELTA output and DELTA LED are switched on. 7. Operating state The DELTA output remains active until power to the relay is disconnected. Adjustable star operating time
The operating time of the star contactor can be adjusted from 0.1 to 30 seconds. This setting should be selected so that the motor has sufficient time to accelerate in star mode before switching to delta.
If the STAR time is too short, the motor may not have accelerated sufficiently and a large current surge may occur during transition. If the time is too long, the motor may unnecessarily remain in reduced-torque operation for too long.
STAR time depends on the specific motorThe optimum time depends on the motor power, mechanical load, system inertia and actual acceleration time. It is recommended to verify the setting under real operating conditions.
Adjustable transition pause
A 1–500ms pause can be set between switching off the STAR output and switching on the DELTA output. During this pause, both outputs are off.
The transition pause helps prevent a situation where the star contactor has not yet fully released while the delta contactor has already started to engage. The actual pause time should be coordinated with the mechanical characteristics of the contactors used.
Contactor interlocking is mandatoryThe timer relay alone is not sufficient as the only protection against simultaneous activation of the STAR and DELTA contactors. The control circuit must include electrical interlocking and, where required by the project, mechanical interlocking as well.
Supply voltage
The relay supports the main 230V AC supply connection and an alternative 24V AC/DC supply connection.
Parameter Value Operating voltage range Un 150–260V AC A1–A2 230V AC A2–A3 24V AC/DC Operating frequency 50/60Hz when AC power is used Un and A1–A2 values are not contradictoryA1–A2 = 230V AC indicates the nominal supply connection, while Un = 150–260V AC specifies the permissible operating voltage range. This means that the relay is intended for a 230V AC system but can operate within the manufacturer's specified 150–260V AC range.
LED status indication
Indication Meaning ON Indicates that the relay is powered and the control cycle is active. STAR Indicates that the star output and STAR contactor control are active. DELTA Indicates that the delta output and DELTA contactor control are active. Relay output contacts
The relay has separate STAR and DELTA relay outputs intended for the corresponding contactor control circuits.
The manufacturer specifies a contact rating of 5A / 250V AC. Since a contactor coil is an inductive load, the actual permissible contact load must be evaluated according to the characteristics of the specific coil.
5A is not the motor power currentThe specified 5A contact current applies to the relay control outputs. The motor power circuit must not be switched directly through these contacts. The motor current is switched by the corresponding power contactors.
Motor and system compatibility
The star-delta starting method is not suitable for every three-phase motor. Before designing or installing the system, the motor nameplate and winding connection options must be checked.
- The motor must have six accessible winding terminals.
- The motor windings must be suitable for operation in delta at the applied mains voltage.
- The mechanical load being started must allow the reduced starting torque of star operation.
- The main, STAR and DELTA contactors must be correctly selected.
- The motor must have suitable overload and short-circuit protection.
- The STAR and DELTA contactors must be interlocked.
- The connection diagram must correspond to the specific motor nameplate and project design.
Star mode reduces starting torqueIn star mode, not only the starting current but also the motor starting torque is reduced. Therefore, this starting method may not be suitable for mechanisms that require high torque from the moment of start-up.

Practical application example
A three-phase fan motor is controlled by main, STAR and DELTA contactors. The motor star starting time is set to 8 seconds.
When power is applied to the relay, the STAR output is activated. The star contactor connects the motor windings in star and the motor begins to accelerate with reduced starting current.
After 8 seconds, the STAR output is switched off. The relay then starts, for example, a 100ms transition pause during which both outputs are inactive.
After the pause has elapsed, the DELTA output is switched on, the delta contactor operates and the motor changes to normal operating mode.
The DELTA output remains active until the relay supply voltage is disconnected.

Important installation and electrical safety informationThe relay must be installed by a qualified electrical specialist. Before installation or servicing, all control and power circuits must be disconnected. A1–A2 terminals are intended for nominal 230V AC supply, while the manufacturer's specified Un operating voltage range is 150–260V AC. A2–A3 terminals are intended for alternative 24V AC/DC supply.
The motor power circuit must not be connected directly through the contacts of this relay. The STAR and DELTA contactors must be correctly selected and interlocked. Simultaneous activation of the star and delta contactors can cause a short circuit in the power circuit.
