Network video recorder (NVR) | 16 channels | 4K | 2 HDD up to 10 TB | H.265+ | 160 Mbps | Alarm 4/1 | Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2
The Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2 is a 16-channel network video recorder for IP cameras with two drive bays. It is a classic K-series NVR: it records, stores and displays video, while smart events (line crossing, intrusion) can be supplied by compatible Hikvision cameras.
Key point:
The main advantage is two SATA bays: up to 20 TB total for a 16-camera archive and the option to add a second drive later. It also has 4 alarm inputs and 1 output. It is a sensible choice when you need a long archive and many channels, while AI filtering is already done by smart cameras (line crossing, intrusion).Channels
16 IP, up to 12 MPStorage
2 SATA × 10 TBBandwidth
160 MbpsAlarm I/O
4 inputs / 1 outputConnectivity and integration
- RJ-45 Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps – Cameras connect via a PoE switch; the same port is used for remote access.
- Hik-Connect app – Live view, recordings and notifications on your phone (iOS / Android).
- Hikvision camera VCA events – Line crossing, intrusion or ANPR events from cameras are received and used for recording and search.
- Alarm I/O 4/1 – Sensors trigger recording or notifications, the relay output drives a siren or light.
- 4K HDMI and VGA – Independent outputs: HDMI up to 3840 × 2160 / 30 Hz, VGA up to 1920 × 1080 / 60 Hz.
How it works
Fit one or two SATA drives (up to 10 TB each), connect the NVR to the switch with the cameras and to a monitor via HDMI or VGA. Wire sensors to the alarm inputs.
The NVR accepts up to 16 streams totalling up to 160 Mbps and records them in H.265+. Drives can be used in groups or quotas – e.g. giving more space to key cameras.
The result is a long 16-camera archive on two drives, viewing locally and on your phone, with alarm events linked to video.
Why choose the DS-7616NI-K2?
A two-drive 16-channel NVR with alarm I/O – when archive length and channel count matter most.Technical specifications

- 2 SATA bays – up to 20 TB total for a long 16-camera archive.
- Alarm I/O 4/1 – sensors and relay without an extra module.
- Camera VCA events – line crossing, intrusion, ANPR from smart Hikvision cameras.
- H.265+ – up to 75 % less storage required, according to the manufacturer.
- Smart search and playback – search in a selected frame area, instant playback.
- HDD quotas and groups – allocate drive space between cameras.
How does it differ from similar models?
- Hikvision DS-7616NXI-K1(D) – 16 channels with AcuSense (human/vehicle filter by the NVR), but only 1 drive up to 16 TB and no alarm I/O.
- Hikvision DS-7732NXI-I4/S – more channels, 4 SATA bays, AcuSense, 2 network ports – for large sites; several times more expensive.
- Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1(D)/Alarm4+1 – 8 channels with AcuSense and alarm I/O 4/1, 1 drive.
- IMOU NVR-N118W-8A0E – 18-channel Wi-Fi NVR for homes with the IMOU Life app; no alarm I/O and no 2 drive bays.
Where is it used?
- Warehouses and logistics centres
- Apartment blocks and housing associations
- Factory premises
- Retail halls and marketplaces
- Schools and sports complexes
- Car parks
Use by need
For a warehouse manager who needs a 30+ day archive.
Two 8–10 TB drives keep 16 cameras' footage longer than a single-drive NVR.For an installer already using smart Hikvision cameras.
AI analysis runs in the cameras, while the NVR cost-effectively handles recording, archive and alarm logic. For a marketplace or retail hall administrator.
16 channels in one device and alarm inputs for door contacts after hours.Practical use
If 14 × 4 MP cameras in a logistics warehouse must record continuously for 30 days, fit two 10 TB drives in the DS-7616NI-K2, give the gate cameras a larger HDD quota and wire door contacts to the alarm inputs – when a door opens at night the recording is tagged as an event and is quick to find in search.Pros
- 2 SATA bays – up to 20 TB total
- 16 channels, cameras up to 12 MP
- 160 Mbps incoming bandwidth
- Alarm I/O: 4 inputs / 1 output
- Independent 4K HDMI and VGA outputs
- Receives VCA events from smart Hikvision cameras
Cons / limitations
- The manufacturer's datasheet does not list NVR-level AI analytics (AcuSense); if you need a human / vehicle filter in the NVR itself, choose the DS-7616NXI-K1(D).
- No PoE ports – a separate PoE switch is needed.
- Decoding – 8 × 1080p at once; 16-channel monitor view uses sub-streams.
- Wider chassis (385 mm) than single-drive models.
Safety and installation notes
- Install the NVR in a dry, ventilated place – leave space for airflow in a cabinet or rack; operating temperature -10…+55 °C.
- Fit the hard drive only with the power disconnected; choose surveillance-grade HDDs designed for 24/7 operation.
- Power it from the source specified by the manufacturer (12 VDC, 3.33 A); a UPS and surge protection are recommended – a power cut also stops recording.
- On first start-up set a strong admin password, enable Hik-Connect only if remote access is needed, and keep the firmware up to date.
- GDPR: set the retention period to what you really need, restrict access with user rights and mark the monitored area with signs.
- Use solid-copper CAT5e / CAT6 cable for PoE cameras (Ethernet limit – 100 m) and seal cable entries outdoors.
Quick selection guide
16 IP channels2 HDD × 10 TB160 MbpsAlarm I/O 4/1Suitable when you need:- a long archive for 9–16 cameras
- two drive bays for expansion
- linking alarm sensors to video
Check before use:- whether the cameras have VCA / AI functions themselves
- drive capacity for the archive period
- whether you have a PoE switch for the cameras
Important reminder: The two drives in this NVR are not a mirror copy – they add capacity; if a drive fails, its recordings are lost.FAQ
