Thermowell for temperature sensor SSPVA100 – stainless steel
A thermowell is a stainless steel tube with a closed end, screwed into a pipeline or tank, into which an immersion temperature sensor is inserted. It separates the sensor from the liquid: pressure and flow are taken by the thermowell, and the sensor can be pulled out and replaced without draining the system. In our range, SSPVA100 is paired with a PT1000 immersion sensor with a 100 mm probe.
Key point:
Without a thermowell, replacing a sensor means draining the system, reducing pressure and extra plumbing work. The thermowell is installed in the pipe once, and the sensor is then serviced as a replaceable component. Stainless steel resists corrosion in water, district heating and glycol systems.Material

The thermowell is screwed into a socket (boss) on the pipeline or tank and sealed. Its closed end is immersed in the liquid, while the inner bore stays accessible from outside – the sensor probe is inserted into it and secured.
Heat passes from the liquid through the thermowell wall to the sensor. For the sensor to respond quickly and accurately, the probe must match the inner diameter of the thermowell and reach the bottom; the gap can be filled with thermally conductive paste.
Since the pressure is taken by the thermowell, the sensor can be removed while the system is running – the main advantage of a thermowell when servicing heat substations and boiler rooms.
Why use the SSPVA100 thermowell?
A thermowell lets you prepare the measuring point in the pipeline once and later replace or check the sensor without plumbing work. It also protects the sensor probe from the mechanical effect of the flow and direct contact with the medium.Technical specifications
Product type Thermowell for immersion temperature sensor Manufacturer / model Manufacturer not specified / SSPVA100 Material Stainless steel Purpose Mounting immersion temperature sensors in pipelines and tanks Pairs with PT1000 immersion sensor, 100 mm probe (TIC PT1000) Mounting Screwed into a pipeline or tank socket Length, thread, inner diameter, pressure rating Check with our sales manager before ordering Main functions
- Sensor protection – pressure and flow are taken by the thermowell, not the sensor probe
- Replacement without draining – the sensor can be pulled out while the system is running
- Stainless steel – corrosion resistance in water, district heating and glycol systems
- Fixed measuring point – the sensor always returns to the same position
- For checks and calibration – the sensor is easy to remove and compare with a reference thermometer
- Pairs with the PT1000 immersion sensor – in our range intended for a 100 mm probe
How does it differ from similar products?
Sensor without a thermowell A directly screwed-in sensor responds slightly faster, but cannot be replaced without draining the system. Brass thermowell Brass conducts heat well, but stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion and more aggressive media. Clamp-on sensor on the pipe Installed without cutting into the pipe, but measures the wall temperature – a thermowell gives more accurate measurement. Where is it used?
- Heat substations
- Boiler rooms and heating systems
- Hot water tanks (calorifiers)
- Cooling and glycol circuits
- Heat pump systems
- Industrial pipelines
Use by need
For beginners.
The thermowell is screwed into the pipe by a plumber or installer when the system is depressurised. After that, the sensor is simply inserted and secured. For experienced installers.
Before installation, check the thread against the socket, the thermowell length against the pipe diameter and the inner diameter against the sensor probe. Seal the thread with a suitable material; the inside of the thermowell can be filled with thermally conductive paste. For energy engineers / designers.
Select the thermowell according to system pressure, temperature, medium and flow velocity. The insertion depth should place the tip in the middle of the flow; in small-diameter pipes install the thermowell in an elbow or at an angle.Practical application
During the renovation of a heat substation, sockets are welded into the supply and return pipes and SSPVA100 thermowells are screwed in, with PT1000 sensors with 100 mm probes inserted. When one sensor fails a few years later, it is replaced in a few minutes – the system does not need to be drained.Pros / advantages
- Sensor can be replaced without draining the system
- Stainless steel – corrosion resistant
- Protects the sensor from pressure and flow
- Convenient for checking and calibrating the sensor
- Pairs with the PT1000 immersion sensor (100 mm probe)
Cons / limitations
- Slightly slower sensor response than with direct immersion
- Requires a socket (boss) on the pipeline
- Length, thread, inner diameter and pressure rating for this batch are not confirmed – please check
Safety and installation notes
- ⚠ Install and remove the thermowell only when the system is depressurised and the liquid has cooled – hot liquid can cause scalding.
- Seal the thread with a material suitable for the medium and temperature; check for leaks after filling the system.
- Do not exceed the pressure rating of the thermowell – confirm it before ordering.
- The sensor wires are connected to the controller by a qualified electrician with the controller power disconnected.
Quick selection guide
Stainless steelFor immersion sensorsPT1000, 100 mmReplace without drainingSuitable when you need:- To create a measuring point for an immersion sensor in a pipeline or tank
- To replace the sensor without draining the system
- To protect the sensor from pressure and flow
Check before choosing:- Thermowell thread against the pipeline socket
- Inner diameter and length against the sensor probe
- Pressure and temperature limits for the system
Important reminder: A thermowell is not a measuring device – it only protects the sensor. Measurement accuracy depends on the sensor and on how precisely its probe fits the thermowell.☝ Elsprendimai.eu recommends:- PT1000 immersion temperature sensor – pairs with this thermowell, 100 mm probe

FAQ
What is a thermowell for?
It allows the sensor to be installed in a pressurised pipeline and replaced without draining the system. Pressure and flow are taken by the thermowell.Does the thermowell fit any sensor?
No. The diameter and length of the sensor probe must match the inside of the thermowell. In our range this thermowell is paired with a PT1000 immersion sensor with a 100 mm probe. What thread and length does this thermowell have?
Please confirm the exact dimensions with our sales manager before ordering – we will confirm them for the specific batch.Does a thermowell slow down the measurement?
Slightly – heat has to pass through the wall. When the probe fits the thermowell precisely and thermally conductive paste is used, the delay is usually insignificant in heating systems. Can the thermowell be unscrewed while the system is running?
No. It can only be removed after relieving pressure and letting the liquid cool. While the system is running, only the sensor is pulled out of the thermowell. Why stainless steel?
It resists corrosion in water, district heating and glycol systems and keeps its shape and tightness for a long time.Sources: No manufacturer datasheet for code SSPVA100 was found; the general purpose and material of thermowells are described according to the product designation. Length, thread, inner diameter and pressure rating are not stated. Checked 2026-10-18.
